Thorgil didn't dual-wield in the manga. That first slice with his left was originally an art error where he was drawn with his sword in the wrong hand. They even address this with a little blurb at the end of the volume where Thorgil claims to be ambidextrous.
Mappa, being GOATed, said "hm, yes, that _is_ canon," and instead of fixing the error, they gave him two swords and improved the scene.

Phenomenal episode! The contrast of Olmar horrified of his one assisted kill, while Thorgil gleefully gets the ace in the back
They were expecting Olmar to die because it was 4v1 after he killed the guy with the coin in his eye... but they were not expecting Thorgil to be there and body all of them, so that's why they were surprised when Olmar was still alive.

Funny how Sverkel few episodes earlier specifically told Ketil that having a big farm and too much wealth was a problem and here we see Canute attacking the farm for that very reason.

I loved the contrast at 6:50 like yall said. Olmar was covered in blood because he felt "dirty" or guilty for killing someone and Thorgil in the background appears completely clean despite killing a bunch of people, showing he doesn't really feel that same guilt or feel "dirty" when he kills

Yeah honestly. Obviously vinland isn't very much of a humor oriented show but when it does go for it, it very much feels in tune with vinland and still manages to fit very well. I mean cmon, the art on those dudes laughs was too good😭

And thorfinn could learn to fight and defend what he cares for and that could be einar and the farm maybe, So with Thorgil, Snake, Thorfinn, and a good amount of other guards on the farm as well. It could be interesting

Damn. Thorfinn and Canute have switched places. Thorfinn is peaceful and Canute is Brutal. The opposite of when they met.
The people complaining about there not being action completely missed all the heartfelt and meaningful events that happened in season 1. I love the action, it's really cool. But the parts that stay with me are the heartbreaking moments. Thorfin seeing his dad on his boat. Bjorn dying in combat just wanting to be friends. These are the moments that feel far more powerful. Again, I love the wars and the action scenes, but what makes the show incredible are the characters and philosophies that they try to live by.
When Roshi said “ y’all saw how he ate the chicken, why would you mess with him?” I laughed so hard thinking about Thorgil eating the chicken with the same face he was makin while killin dudes. Roshi also laughing hard at dude getting his eye poked had me rollin
Another beautiful episode of Vinland Saga, this time with a little spice with Thorgil pulling out that bloodbath there. Incredibly excited to see Leif and Thorfinn's reunion again, and Thorfinn and Canute's, for that matter.
Random side note: Ketil just staying holed up in that barrel for some reason is absolutely hilarious to me

For those who are interested in reading along with the manga, this episode adapted the entirety of chapters 77-78. The next episode appears to be finally adapting the last five pages of chapter 73 and all of chapter 74 along with chapter 79 (since the anime rearranged the original presentation/order of scenes from different settings).
So this is an easy mistake to make, but the coin-guy (likely one of Canute’s espionage men) is not the same person as Wulf. While they have similar hair color and both have facial hair, if you pay close attention you can tell their faces (and voices) are different.
If it wasn’t clear from this episode, Canute’s plan for Olmar originally just involved getting Olmar to maim/kill one of the king’s messengers, and then be killed/captured in turn (in order to create a “justification” for arresting Ketil and seizing his assets). However, as Wulf said, Thorgil intervening and killing the remaining messengers and guards was an unplanned oversight, though now Canute has even more “justification” to arrest a seize the assets of the Ketil family.
Some other bits of trivia: the scene of Einar and Thorfinn plowing and watching the sunset at the end of this episode was an anime original scene.
Also there was a line of Canute’s that’s somewhat important to his characterization that got cut (likely for run-time). Anyways the cut line comes right after Canute asks the haunting head of his father why the latter is laughing, and the cut line Canute follows up with is: “Is the deepening of my sin entertaining to you?”. So if it wasn’t clear from the rest of Canute’s characterization this episode, he is quite self-aware of the immoral qualities of his plans to seize Ketil’s farmland.
I don't think Thorgill is necessarily trying to protect his family. He just loves violence and he loves a good challenge, and what could be a stronger challenge than Canute himself. He's overjoyed at the prospect of beating him and killing a lot of people in the process, a bit like Thorkell but kinda delusional at the same time. Also the coin guy was not Wulf, some new guy.

the 2nd half is going to depressing and liberating at the same time. It's so philosophical and the dialogue is so epic. I am excited to binge watch it. Gotta stop the urge for 12 weeks straight.

At first, you'll think that Thorgil only did the killings because he is blood lusted, but he actually did that because he saw the plan against them right through it.

I'm the few who considered dropping the show after getting a synopsis of season 2 ! I just picked it up two weeks ago and binged it till this point ! Boy would I have regret what I would have missed if I didn't give this season a chance !

I was also confused at first about why they didn't know olmar was alive, but I think the plan was the following : Olmar kills the first guy, the 4 other guy kills him.
They just didn't take into account that thorgil would be there (which is an odd overlook tbh)
I'm not 100% sure because having Olmar killed would't make his dad owe anything to Canute, on the contrary, but yeah that's my view.
Ketil would have to take responsibility for olmars action of killing a Kings guard and hand over the farm as compensation

Man, people who dropped the show because it didn't have action were watching the show for the wrong reason. The show isn't about violence, shit gets real deep, real emotional. What season 1 had in violence, this show has in feels. The Manga is one of the best I've ever read. There's so much I can't wait for in the show.

Nah the second batch of soldiers in armor knew the plan. The plan was to have those 5 dumbasses go make fun of olmar because they knew he would try to duel one of them. The second part of the plan is to help him win the duel. That means he killed the kings soldier, and then the other 4 would be justified to kill him. The soldiers that came after were confused, because they didn’t factor in thorgil into the plan who ended up saving olmar and killing everyone. They were going to just use olmar killing the first guy to arrest Ketil. But thorgil had other plans

Thorkell and Thorgil are similar types of fighters, plowing through their foes with quick, devastating blows. Thorgil fights a bit smarter due to Snake's training, but due to Thorkell just being the same thing but better, he'll get bulldozed by The Tall.

That dude is a beast , like not a major spoiler or anything but in the Manga this giant mf put a whole bear to sleep with a single casual punch blowing his entire jaw off then suplex it into the ground
AND ATE IT IN THE DINNER LOL , and so you don't get any wrong idea this was the largest bear his men could find around in the whole area just cuz thorkell asked em to find him a good opponent to practice but it was over in like TWO blows that left him heavily disappointed and angry
The type of fighter that could even stand a bit against thorkell are smaller build that can slip through his heavy attacks and with a faster more speed based fighting style kinda like thorfinn was , that's why he could face thorkell back then or a long range weapon maybe but the Chances of actually hitting him are quite low

I think if Thorfinn actually goes back to fighting, he'd use his hands like his father did, 'cause of the whole true warrior thing he father mentioned in the first episodes, he could see a mid ground by simply doing what his father did, 'cause his father went through the same struggle Thorfinn was facing, I don't know. Can't wait for the next episodes, I've been struggling not to read the manga 'cause I just wanna know what is going to happen, but it's hard to wait episodes to drop aswell, goddamnit.

Damn, it's crazy that we're already on episode 12... and I fully agree that the show carries at least 80% on the story alone. This is one of the few cases that I wouldn't even mind a Live Action Adaptation, despite all the Viking shows and movies already out.

As I understood it, after he won the duel Olmar was supposed to be cut down by the other King's messengers, adding grief for his son to the pressure of the treason charges, to really leave Ketil broken and at the mercy of Canut.

The fight was rigged so Olmar would win, but he was supposed to subsequently be killed by the other 4 guys. Thorgil prevented that from happening.

This season also shows alot to build the story’s fundamentals: Introduced to us the perspective of being a slave, showed us how difficult it was to cultivate a land from scratch which I hope and believe would help Thorfinn when he gets to Vinland cause he did not know anything about farming, and showed the dynamics of power when finally the king showing up to take away everything they had worked for. I never got bored or disappointed because the story telling in this anime is chef’s kiss.
I just hope that Einar is there just to help Thorfinn through the rest of his journey, not to help him find a road to redemption and die a tragic death to push our boy along or test his resolve to never kill others.
