I think Thomas is one of the best car reviewer on youtube. Talks slow, very detailed and we have the same type of body, so if he is comfortable in the car then I am comfortable! Keep it up
I used to own for 6 years 2005 pajero 3 gen. And it has the same engine only different electronics not so powerful but dynamic too. So i sold it with 480.000 km and had no problems with gear box and engine. I had some issues with brakes but the repair costs was cheep. Now i own the 2011 pajero 5 door version and have driven more than 200,000 km and no problems apart the brakes too. The car is heavy and brakes ware out faster. Super solid off road cars highly suggest!
Very honest review...I agree , Pajero is really an old car but it is fine wine... what is best about the Pajero is the suspension durability and comfort on very bad roads and the Super Select 4x4 wheel drive....the drivetrain makes a lot of fun, especially when driving on mountainous snowy roads. As for the diesel engine, I have the older Pajero III from 2006, so it has less power, but Pajero was never meant to be a car for the Autobahn...it is a rather old construction, modified from the Mitsubishi Fuso with 3,2 liters. It will consume 10 liters diesel...However this engine makes sense for the Pajero. It is a pity there is no Pajero V as of now, and future looks bleak. I think I will use my old Pajero until it falls apart ;-) My critisism concerns the front wheel bearings which eventually will brake down sooner or later and like Thomas pointed put, the braking system, which is underdimensioned for a heavy car. Braking especially from higher speeds is not funny. Still in europe nowdays the competition is either also too old, or simply by far too expensive for the real 4x4 driver.
I have had 3 of these cars before and two with the 3.2 DID (4M41). Great vehicles and all drove to over 500 000km with regular service intervals and NO Issues till the day I sold them.
I own Pajero 4th Generation 3-door, but mine is 2007 year (the first of the last gen), and mine has manual gear box, with 160 HP. I see that except the HP, they haven't changed anything - which is not so bad, after all it's made with a purpose and it works perfectly. I couldn't agree more with this review - you have shown the good sides and the downsides, and for a real off-roader, it has almost none downsides. What bothers me the most is the noise and the ride on bad roads (not offroad, bad bumpy roads) - lots of wiggling. Also the manual gear box sucks - it's like you drive a huge truck... other that that - great reliable car! Doesn't break and can handle a lot of beating. P.S I did make a chip tuning (about 190 hp and 460Nm torque) and it has great response but if you do that, be careful pushing the pedal hard when you haven't got enough revs, because the diff can't handle the torque and sometimes shakes - I wonder if it was automatic if this will be the same?
I have a massive soft spot for the Shogun (it’s name in the UK). It is the original people’s SUV but with real off-roading ability. It’s sad it has now gone!
Sorry to be so off topic but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account?? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me!
@Jett Gunnar thanks for your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
This vehicle is really a kind of a dinosaur nowadays, it's really all about function over form. Nevertheless, it probably appeals to the more traditional buyers, who really appreciate this kind of things. Thomas is a really likable person, his work is greatly appreciated. :)
My wife and I own a 2007 Toyota Landcruiser Prado, this is the Grande trim and together with its air suspension all round is very comfortable, noise at any speeds is reasonable, it tows our 2.4 tonne full size van very nicely. This is the last model with the twin 90 litre Diesel tanks and has the 3.0 D4D engine. It is in fact an 8 seater and as my wife and kids go on scout camps it is very handy. The one thing I hate is the Sun roof, I say in Australia we get enough sun, but as this comes standard in the top trim (which we wanted), we have to put up with it. My most favourite feature is the inbuilt fridge unit under the arm rests between the seats, it really keeps the drinks cool and will chill them down in time as well. Nothing so nice as too put out a cold drink on a stinking hot day in Australia. The adjustable air suspension has 3 adjustments with the softest being my backs favourite. The only time the softest is not the best is when it hits the stopper on some swooping bumps. It does not happen all the time but when the roads have a lot of these, either slow down even further or select the mid way setting which fixes that problem. The 3 most firmest setting just makes bumps settle quicker and transmits smaller bumps that would not be even felt on the softest setting. Also around the city the 3rd setting seems to give a little less body roll. Anyway that is my experience with the Prado. I did own a Nissan Patrol once before and it was as rough as hell compared to the Prado. There is no way we would have bought the 2008 Patrol (from new) if we had have test driven the Prado. Both the Patrol and the Prado have 17 inch alloy rims. The only thing the Patrol had over the Prado was behind the front seats the kids had a fold down table each which was great as they could colour in when they were bored. These days they each have an iPad. When I was a kid going to our farm in one of the first Patrols I looked out the window or listened to the AM radio....hell THAT was a rough truck as it only had metal seats on the each side in the back....yes I was a bit sore when we got to the farm, but that was it. Now with my "burst and wedge shaped vertibrae" due to falling 8.5 meters off a ladder and unconscious with many other injuries, I need a super soft ride. I have found the best so far is the 2004 S350 LWB Mercedes Benz sedan. The air suspension in the Merc is way better than the Prados air suspension and I say the Prados air suspension is very good. I cannot believe how little pain I get in the Merc. I have been in two Mitsubishi Pajero "Exceed" trims and was surprised at how rough it was...never again.
mokotramp I have heard this! Why are the Landrover models so unreliable? If you read my other post you will see I need a very soft riding vehicle (not so much 4x4 now although an SUV is better for me to get in and out due to my injuries.). A mate had a very old Range Rover which was very soft riding due to its air suspension. Range Rover is way out of my price point (even used). I was thinking Evoque, but have no idea how soft a ride it is.
I have one 3 doors 2015 model it's very practical car law maintenance the only issue is about the road noise its really annoying that u can hear the wind and the engin noise while driving otherwise its all perfect its heavy duty car its really pleasure driving it off road and it very suitable for young man's sporty look And fuel ⛽ consumption not really good
Thank you for an excellent review. This car is exactly the shape and style I am looking for. What a pity that the latest Shogun in the UK has none of these features. It looks like every other car on the road. Very disappointing.
Hi Thomas, first of all, big thanks for your work in delivering such fresh and great tests of vehicles. Sorry for a private question, but I'm very curious about your surname. Are your ancestors or parents from Poland? Pozdrawiam ;)
szefpietkiewicz Hey! Thank you very much :) Yeah actually my ancestors came from Poland, it's not exactly clear but I guess it was like 200 years ago or smth.
Viel danke ... On this car. I'm planning to buy a new car, but what I'm looking for is a 3 doors SUV. In my country the most popular 3doors SUV is the Nissan patrol 4.8 liters which has so many power in to it. But for me I want to try something new and different, as the Pajero 3D it looks nice and sounds a good car for a daily abuse whether on or off road. It has more options than the Nissan patrol but Mitsubishi looks nicer if it's a bit raised.
i have the 3 door and 5 door varriants ...5 door is better for vacations if you wanna bring your friends But most of the time the 3 door is my daily car and its a eye catcher ..just a tip for new pajero owners .. replace the head unit.. the gps lags most of the time
It sucks that we in the US are unable to purchase the Pajero/Montero. They stop selling them here in 2006 & they stopped selling the SWB in the 80's, only leaving the full size version.
I just wish I could still get one in Australia. The last SWB here was 2009. Even if I could import a RH drive 2015 here I would rather have that than most new cars. Still I have kept my 2007 SWB in good condition ....
I considered buying one but I always seem to prefer the Toyota Landcruiser SWB. Overall a much better quality product with a far more impressive road presence.
I just bought a used one diesel swb has done only 100,000 km .. loving it. Please those had these car much longer .. please advise me anything I need to be concerned?
Why you don t do top speed for every car in test? I think a lot of people will like this section and the channel could grow faster. Hope you will see this comment and try this. Good luck!
I am looking in to buying the 3 door pajero model 2015 GLS 3.8 -running on petrol and I am just wondering will it be noisy! or is it only the diesel engine is noisy!?

@@cristianmolina8637 True. The Pajero does have 4WD Mode for asphalt though. The Prado cannot use that, unless its on sand, mud, or snow. I wished someone had both and did a showcase, or head to head review.
Petrol can not be better for off-roading than diesel, that's a golden rule, remember that! You are talking about horse powers which is useless in off-roading point of view.. You have talk about the torque, not HP.. So will wonder to know this diesel have 440 nm of torque, however 3.8 gasoline version- just 330
