You should look him up. He's a british actor, TV presenter and comedian who is in my opinion one of the smartest guys in the world. Alot of great clips of him saying the wisest things you've heard. Seeing him and Hitchens debating the catholic church is probably my favourite.
That was the late Gay Byrne interviewing Stephen Fry for the RTE (Ireland's national tv and radio broadcaster) tv show The Meaning Of Life. It was a series of interviews of various celebrity and public figures on their views on life, love and religious/spiritual beliefs.
Sure, because if we don't like something then it makes no sense to exist... Right? Because it's not man with his choices that is the cause of injustices in our society... We are the ones who must establish and demand what is rightfully ours in a reality of which we hardly understand a small part (the fact that we have established that we should not even exist, speaks volumes about our ability to do so). Because we don't have to understand the meaning of things, we have to impose it ourselves (if it were possible, it wouldn't make sense anyway). And of course it is we from the bottom of our ignorance who must establish the conditions of creation (of which we are a tiny part). Ah, and clearly when they wrote in the bible that we were created in the image and likeness of God, they certainly meant that we are totally different things. Nothing to do with the Greeks who thought there were some traits in common... From the way this man speaks it is clear that he knows exactly how a universe is created. I look forward to seeing him at work. Obviously without using the material created by those he considers a selfish idiot, he would be hypocritical as well as cheating (and an offense to his clearly superior intelligence).
What do you love so much about the last clip? Maybe the fact that it makes you feel less guilty for making idiotic and selfish choices? (if god is idiotic and selfish you can be too, right?). I don't think you love it because it will push other people to be idiotic and selfish... It wouldn't make sense. So if you still like it so much, could you tell me why please? I'm genuinely curious and running out of guesswork.
Please don't avoid confrontation. The fundamental questions are inherent in every human being. And you can't run away from yourself. If you believe in what you think, defend it. If in doubt, put it to the test. If you don't believe it, stop making it yours.

God never created a world full of suffering, and we ARE responsible for the curse He brought upon it after we disobeyed His SIMPLE and CLEAR instruction in the Garden. You and I and everyone that's ever lived (except for Jesus) are all guilty of breaking God's moral Law and bc He is a perfect Judge, He will punish ALL evil, whether you like that or not. God is actually angry with the wicked (you and me, naturally) every single day, BUT Bc He is also so full of mercy, He is slow to acting on His indignation and has provided us a way to be forgiven of Him - through the horrific blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. What you and I need to do in order to be forgiven and receive the free gift of eternal life and reigning with the King of Kings is this: we must repent (turn from our sin) and put our trust in Jesus Christ. "The .....greatest trick was making people think he didnt exist" Sadly its true. Blame always falls on God. Everyone always forgets about the other being. But lets say you dont believe any of that. What are the things we as people on Earth suffer with the most ? And who is to blame for it ? Most things that cause us to suffer on earth are because of man. Do we have enough food to feed starving people ? Yes. Do we all pitch in to help those people ? No. Do we have machines polluting the air amd pesticides poisoning our foods and drinks ? Yes Do you think maybe thats one of the reason for so much disease and illness on earth ? Maybe. But do we do anything about it ? No. What about people being poor and homeless ? Well did this God you dont beleive in create money ? No. Man did. You see if you were to beleive God didnt exist, and then take Him out of the equation, what do we have ? We have the SAME thing. The same existance. The same issues. The same world and its problems. And who is to blame for all of that now? Well you cant blame God cause you dont beleive He exists remember ? But who do we know exists ? Man. We know we exist. So now lets say you put God back in the equation. Ask yourself, is it fair to NOW blame God for all the things that are wrong here ? People like to take the credit for all thats good in their lives and then blame someone else for all that bad. Dont we allways try to blame something other then ourselves when things go wrong ? Its how most of us are. Problem is we blame the wrong being. If you read the word, then you would understand that God in His nature cannot be evil. He is a God of love. That is how He is described. What people do is make their own image of God based off of how the world is or what other people perceive Him to be, but that is not who He is. I dont judge people based off of one persons opinion on them, nor do I allow any man to sway my ideas or opinions. They may say something that makes me think, or makes me research to see if its true, but I dont allow other people's opinions to change my mind.

God never created a world full of suffering, and we ARE responsible for the curse He brought upon it after we disobeyed His SIMPLE and CLEAR instruction in the Garden.
God is JUST, He is a good Judge, and He promises to punish ALL evil (not just rape and murder, but lying, stealing, pride, envy, etc).
You and I and everyone that's ever lived (except for Jesus) are all guilty of breaking God's moral Law and bc He is a perfect Judge, He will punish ALL evil, whether you like that or not.
God never calls Himself (all-kind) or a Santa Clause butler type of person that loves everyone unconditionally and is spineless.
God is actually angry with the wicked (you and me, naturally) every single day,
BUT
Bc He is also so full of mercy, He is slow to acting on His indignation and has provided us a way to be forgiven of Him - through the horrific blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ.
What you and I need to do in order to be forgiven and receive the free gift of eternal life and reigning with the King of Kings is this: we must repent (turn from our sin) and put our trust in Jesus Christ.
Evidence of your salvation will be the fruit of repentance, fruit of the Spirit, in your life, and your eyes will be opened to SO much that the world isn't capable of seeing.
And God only grants salvation to the humble, never to the proud!

My only issue with Stephen Frys statment is that we as people seem to blame God for everything wrong. We never take any responsibility for our own problems.
If you believe in God then you believe there is also another being sent to earth to harm us, who is against God. Ill give you a hint from a quote. "The .....greatest trick was making people think he didnt exist"
Sadly its true.
Yes
Do you think maybe thats one of the reason for so much disease and illness on earth ?
Unless you read the Holy scriptures and understood the things of God IN CONTEXT I dont feel people get to actually know Him. They will see the video clip shown and say "yeah why would God do that ?! What a horrible being" and yet they have never read about Him. They will just add what that man said to their image of God and live their life disbelieving in God or hating and blaming Him even more.
Instead you should be trying to find out who He is before you decide if you like Him or beleive in Him. Just like anything else in life. I dont judge people based off of one persons opinion on them, nor do I allow any man to sway my ideas or opinions. They may say something that makes me think, or makes me research to see if its true, but I dont allow other people's opinions to change my mind.
I just feel a lot of people like to blame God for things that were probubly caused by man. And many of those things can or could have been prevented.
They also forget all the teachings that are written. The fact that we have always been recorded as borderline evil in the holy scriptures. That God was the one trying to teach us how to NOT be that way.
The word teaches us to be loving and caring, to share, to get away from lusts, and greeds, to seek knowledge over money, to not care about things that will pass away but to focus on the things that will be forever, like our souls. The energy. The spirit. Whatever you want to call it, if you read the word you would see it teaches man how to get rid of the issues within. How to rid this world of evil or sin. And it starts with the individual. It shows you how to be a better person and to love one another as you love yourself.
If anything God has taught me more important information then any man ever would. He also has done more for me then any person ever has. And the way I see it I would have never loved if I never existed, and because I have I am greatful.
You dont need to agree with anything I just said. You can say its nonsense. You can tell me im delusional if you wish, but I know I am a better man because of God. I know He kept me from dying several times becauae I asked him to. Not because a man helped me. I know things Ive asked for have been given to me by Him becauae I asked Him with faith, and Him alone.
I may he wrong, but I would rather beleive in what my heart tells me my whole life, to live with a loving heart, then to not believe, die, and find out He was real. By then it is to late.
Whats so wrong with wanting to live a righteous live anyway ?
At least you know you will never have to worry about me causing you harm. Im not the one stealing things, cheating on people, lieing, hating, killing, being greedy, acting racists, hating others, etc..
My beliefs and I are not the ones to be worried about on this Earth.

Steven Fry nailing the point most theists in debates never even address: regardless of wether god exists or not, are they worthy of worship? and I am with steven on this one, no, no god i ever heard of is worthy of worship in my eyes.
That is not true at all. You are just conflating “Christians” with “theists”. I wonder if you have ever heard anything from a Muslim, or any other non Christian by the way, talking about this matter.
Muslims destroyed all the atheist nonsense more than 1000 years ago, and constantly address the so called problem of evil, which is a problem only for people who only confronted with Christianity, and then negate God because of the flaws they find in it.
@@Fabbjusuf I have had pretty long talks with Muslims, and mostly about their beliefs, because I frankly didn't know much about them. seems to me though that Judaism, Christianity and Islam all worship a god that is about 95% identical between the 3.
also, no, no Muslim has denitive proof of the existence of *any* god, let alone theirs.
And i think you misunderstood me, the problem of evil means the contradiction of an all knowing, all good and all powerful god because evil exists. what i meant was that god does evil things and is therefore not worthy of worship.
@@Thundermikeee I fully understood your point. It’s nothing new and it has been addressed by Muslim scholars billion of times. That’s why I honestly doubt you have ever listened to or read a Muslim scholar addressing the issue.
@@Thundermikeee Yes, we do have definitive proofs of the existence of God, while on the opposite side you have no rational evidence of an universe which can create itself or be uncreated.
