While I'm not a big "snow" fan, this was a fun video to watch...and made in your own backyard no less...While snow in my area causes problems, ice storms cause havoc...thank goodness we havn't had one in a long time! Music was perfect for this video! Thank you!
Oh my gosh yes I can be understanding of that. I'm glad it hasn't happened in a long time. I haven't had to deal with much of anything like that so I count myself lucky. Hopefully it isn't a problem ever again.
The just after dusk scene is absolutely amazing. I have watched it over and over. Been following you for some time now. In fact, your videos are the reason I have switched my train modeling from Midwest N scale to Mountain Ho Scale. I may show a few screen grabs from this video on my channel and see if I can increase your views. I hope you do not mind. Everyone should be aware of your videos, they are not only inspiring, but also very useful to those of us who model USA trains.
Well thanks a lot I appreciate it! I am glad I gave you some inspiration for your modeling! That would be alright if you wanted to show screen grabs to promote me and point your viewers in my direction! I'll take all the publicity I can get. I'm humbled by your opinion of me. A lot of time and effort goes into filming everything but I love it and it's all worth it. I have been on the Evanston Sub once for the inaugural run of the 4014 Big Boy and I am excited to get back there again someday. It's a great region and the rail traffic is better than a lot of other places as well!
This was truly mind-bending. I posted it on my Facebook page, and told people that even if they were not into trains, they would adore this scenic video. It got Likes. This is stunning work of professional quality. Honestly (and I mean it): Look for film festivals (or similar) who accept these types of submissions. Short form, scenic, Winter, on and on, whatever category you can wedge it into. Submit it. It is THAT good.
I know you must have endured discomfort filming this; I hope your drone is OK.Beautiful work, and thanks for not missing this rare opportunity to film some fantastic snow scenes!!
It seems funny that the SD70Ms now rarely lead trains (of course they're not DPU equipped). Seems like just yesterday they were brand spankin' new and found on the points of UPs hottest trains. Stunning shots! Especially the ones around Westfir. Thanks.
Very well done. I swear every one you do is better than the last. The after dusk was my favorite. There are several scenes in the after dusk section I bet you could put in frames and sell for wall hangings. I know I'd be trying to get one. Thank you for what you do.
Thanks a lot Bruce! Less than a week after this I was in 8 degrees on the Deschutes River and I knew that was cold when my IPad started to fail on me while flying because it got too cold to operate! Luckily all was alright but that was a first. Those devices are horrible in the heat and now I also know that they don't work in the cold either!
@@TheRailfanDan that temperature is -13 Celsius, damn that’s cold! I could see a Christmas card cover coming out of those dusk scenes you shot. Love the format with the music behind your videos Dan, you certainly are dedicated to bringing us the best quality to your presentations.
That's a lot of lumber clearing those trees along the ROW. Hope they got a good price for it. As always your vids are awesome. The "blue hour" shots were cool.
Beautiful scenery, like a magical wonderland ❄️I especially liked when you were just above and cutting through ttrees over the tracks in Westfir at dusk. Your work should be on OPB, your just getting better and better 👍🏼
Wow! To Railfan Dan, you've done this before haven't you? Beautiful drone photography of the equally stunning Oregon countryside. Great job! Thank you for sharing it.
Another awesome video. I know awhile ago you talked about being a little discouraged. Trains in the snow make them that much more awesome and I don't know how close you live to the snow and the railroads that go through the area, but you could easily take videos from the ground of trains in the snow and post those as well. Maybe have your drone channel and a ground channel or stagger the videos on this channel with drone week 1 and ground week 2. It's just a thought.
Great video, Dan! The trains traveling through the light snow on the ground looked beautiful. Thank you for going out and capturing these trains near the end of 2021 and for uploading this video for us to watch. Does the Pacific Ocean usually protect the areas along the Pacific coast of Oregon from snow becasue the ocean is usually warmer that the surronding air?
Thanks a lot Thomas! You know I couldn't tell you why but Western Oregon (and Southern Oregon) really don't have any kind of extreme weather either way except for lots of rain. It very rarely gets extremely hot here and it does get cold but rarely does it go into the teens for degrees. I'd say we have it pretty good here for the most part.

Of the several rail fan videos I like to watch (and I enjoy them all), yours are the most.........different.
In a good way.
I'm glad you enjoy them!

Your "after dusk" drone footage is impressive and something I haven't seen before. Totally enjoyed it!😊👍
Thank you! I was so happy to walk away with that.

Thanks so much Ted I'm humbled you shared it and that you think that highly of it! I will definitely keep that in mind.
Thank you - Thank you - Thank you!
For the snow trains in winter.
Soooo Goooood!
Anybody...Ever Tell You Your The Best!?
Dan!!!🌐🌍🌎🌏🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞😉
Thanks a lot Ron I'm humbled! I try my best and I enjoy it every step of the way.
Was mesmerized by the dusk clips . . very very nice! Total pro. UP should use the dusk clip for PR purposes!
Thank you Craig! I'm humbled you think so.
The evening segment was absolutely stunning. Very Christmasy.
I am extremely satisfied with how that night scene turned out. That is one of the best cameras on a drone to use in low light like that (Zenmuse X5S).
Thanks for taking advantage of the blanket of snow.
I'm glad we actually got some here this year. There wasn't any at all last year.
Dusk on the Willamette was Epic.
6:20 Flying that close to the tree tops--in the dark! Wow!
I know the area quite well and that makes all the difference!
Nice to see up the river, other scenes than from HWY 58. Thank You
Love the snowscapes! That last scene with the tunnel through the rock is awesome!! That inspire 2 does so good in low light !!
Thanks Mike! I think that's the best low light setting I've ever achieved with the Inspire 2. I've very impressed myself!
Especially enjoyed pacing in front of the engines early in the video! Great work.
That's one of my favorite things to do. Thanks!
As always, excellent. I think the night shots in the snow are my number one favorite!
Thank you Dave!
Beautiful shots Dan! Lovely work!
Great video Dan. The night shots in the trees around Westfir were fantastic!
Thank you Tom!
Another awesome video. The snow really helps make this one pop. Several scenes are postcard perfect snapshots.
Thanks a lot! I appreciate it!
Another great Railfan Dan Production video, keep those train videos coming.
Thanks a lot Vertis!
Oh man, that was marvelous. And the night flying is simply breathtaking. Another work of fine art, Dan. Bravo!
Thanks a lot Jeff!
you are the Best !! Thanks for all your Videos !!
Thanks Becky!
I love it snow , great north of Oregon
Your night scene at Westfir is awesome!
Thanks a lot Aaron! I wasn't sure how the camera would do in such low light until I got it in the air and I'm as impressed as you are.
Those night shots are glorious. Thank you for your hard work.
Thanks a lot!
one of your best. musical choice superlative as always.
Thanks a lot!
Great work, Dan. Thanks for getting out there in the snow!
Thanks a lot! It was all worth it.
I know you must have endured discomfort filming this; I hope your drone is OK.Beautiful work, and thanks for not missing this rare opportunity to film some fantastic snow scenes!!
Thanks! Braving the cold conditions is worth it in the end!

No kidding. Now it's a special treat to get them leading. I was pretty excited about it.

Well thanks a lot I appreciate it! Yes once in a while I take some stills from the footage to use elsewhere.
This is dedication to the cause Dan! It must have been freezing whilst waiting for that first train. Sensational video again AAA+++ Thank you.
Thanks a lot Bruce! Less than a week after this I was in 8 degrees on the Deschutes River and I knew that was cold when my IPad started to fail on me while flying because it got too cold to operate! Another brilliant and amazing 4K Video production Dan, especially the early evening captures!🤩👍🏽
That's a lot of lumber clearing those trees along the ROW. Hope they got a good price for it. As always your vids are awesome. The "blue hour" shots were cool.
Thank you John!
Oh my gosh, Dan, the dusk shots at Westfir were absolutely breathtaking! I'm not sure how you'll top that, but I know you will. Kudos!

Thanks Mom! That would be something else to make it onto real tv.
I bet that was fun flying a drone in the dark
I enjoyed it!
Wow! To Railfan Dan, you've done this before haven't you? Beautiful drone photography of the equally stunning Oregon countryside. Great job! Thank you for sharing it.
Thanks so much! Yes these rails are my 'backyard' so to speak.
Dan, thank you again, it's always beautiful to see it the way you film those trains. Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what you do for 2022.
Another beautiful video!
Awesome as always
Thanks a lot Campbell!

Thanks for the advice I appreciate it! It's easy to enjoy editing and uploading when it's more rare content like snow.
Thank God for drones.
Good one Dan! We rec'd a little snow here in Florence; a rare happening. Where are the helpers cut off---Chemult or later down the line?
Thanks! The manned helpers go on in Oakridge and the are taken off at Cascade Summit and roll back down to Oakridge.
