Such a beautiful, sensual dance... always makes me smile to watch. I think if love were to be represented by dance, this would be it

Love this video. I wish I could see more of the facial expressions. Or the dancers feeling and enjoying the music.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thank you! =) We had very little time before the sun was down and they closed the park. Not that good for enjoying the music.

Nice kiz, but too generic. Didn't see much of the song in the dance. And the video cuts tell us that the flow wasn't good enough the first time around. Hmm, Kristof can do better, I think.

    •  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks! What do you mean with "generic"? What do you want to see from the song in the dance that is missing? If you want to record a video and publish and make it good it is rare that you get all things right the first time you dance. Especially if you have not danced many dances before. But yes, I think I can do better. =)

@ First, I should say this is like a padawan telling a Jedi master how to use a lightsaber. :D But since I have already put my foot in my mouth:
At your workshop in DC in Feb 2019, in your musicality lesson in the last hour, you had us line up in a row and step to different timings. As the phrases changed, we picked which dancers looked like the matched the music best. Then you talked about listening for little sound effects or vocal patterns to "hit" in the music and trying to anticipate when they would show up again later.
Here is a video of yours that I like a lot: th-cam.com/video/j2pY-Dvl2OY/w-d-xo.html
      - From 0:08 to 0:26, your movement gains complexity every 8 counts.
      - At 0:26 there is a pause in the music, and your body swells at 0:28 to match.
      - At 1:14 there is a repeated lyric and you perform a cool repeated motion that lines up well.
      - At 1:45, perhaps coincidence but your slide matches the guitar (and the phrase change).
      - Guitar footwork continues through 1:53 - those little side steps!!! YEAH!!!
      - Body freezes at 3:20 to repeating lyrics.
Compare with the present video. You have picked out a beautiful location and have a nice camera. Since it's not just improv at some event, I was eager to see what you would do with the opportunity.
      - 0:56 I think I see a small change in frame after the phrase change but there's not much there.
      - 1:06 tempo change seemed out of place, maybe why you went back?
      - From 0:56 to 1:13 I'm trying to decide if you are really dancing to the synthetic triplets on 1-3-4 that I'm hearing. It's not crisp enough to be sure, but as I continue to watch, at 1:13 think I'm correct.
But 1:16 until the phrase change, I don't hear what you're dancing to. Did you switch to the vocals? It seemed to me like you were just doing generic kiz movements without connecting to the music.
1:18 why is this section slower, now that the percussion is back?
2:07 footwork matching the piano - I do like this one.
2:15 - the tall pause is so yummy
. Wish there was more of this.
2:46 - a successful version of the transition I didn't like in 1:16, except except EXCEPT now what is with these video cuts!!!? I really wanted to see the rest of that phrase change.
      Boo!!
So I guess I want to see musical elements like phrase changes, guitar solos, lyrical patterns reflected in the tone of your frame, in the shape of your body, and in the rhythm of your feet. You were one of the first people to tell me to look for those things, and I think you do it very well in some other videos, but for me, it didn't come out as much in this one.
My apologies for any offense - you are a master of your craft and a beautiful dancer.

@@statecollegesocialdancing9973 Hello again! =) Thanks a lot for your reply! Long, I will not answer as long! Or maybe I will! ;)
Yes, the first other video you sent is very well played. For me it is a bit embarrassing, because I dance very differently now, and a lot of moves I don’t like or find a bit stiff now. But, there is a lot of musicality and I can definitely see why people still like it a lot.
About the video above, which you don’t like as much. First of all, all my videos are improvisations, except one I think which was choreographed by some Russians.
The circumstances when you record affect a lot. In this case it was recorded with daylight quickly disappearing, so it was stress because of that. We had to get some shots before the light was gone. It was the first ever weekend that I danced with this girl and we had had a couple of dances only, which can also affect. And number three, I hadn’t listened that much to the song before. That is probably the reason why I made a stop there at 1.18. I expected a break that didn’t come - it is in another place in the song. But, I am not sure. It was long time ago.
In general, I switch quite often in what I dance to. And, sometimes I just dance on the strong beat. Which is what I did there after 1.18. If you try to catch all different instruments, all accents etc it can be too much, so you have to pick. Sometimes you go back to just the cake, and leave the frosting. It can’t all be frosting! ;)
And finally, a lot of it also comes down to how I hear the music compared to how YOU hear the music. We all hear it a bit differently. Some songs we will hear the same, and some we will hear differently.
It wasn’t my best musicality for sure, and I can see some points you are making, but part of it can also be that we hear this song differently.
      All the best! =)
