Really nice vid. Had I not just cooked all my mackerel on the barbie I'd be trying this out. I cant wait to go fishing again now so I can try this when I get home. Thankyou.
Thanks for the comment,i love this dish, especially how the mackerel is prepared, very cool, and the end taste is awesome with the salsa Verde cutting through the rich oily ness of the fish,im surprised more people have not seen this,as i think this is a real class way of preparing mackerel, many thanks ,my friend.Scott.
I did cook them and it was the best meal ever. The mackerel was straight off the fishing boat......I have a friend whose husband is a fisherman, and we went down to the harbour(near where I live) to meet him off his boat. It was mackerel galore, so I cooked it for everyone.....stunning. thank you so much for the video.
HI ,thanks for that great comment, now you know, way to good for bait, especially after you taste it. The knife i use when preparing the salsa verde is a ROBERT WELCH SANTOKU,and the knife i use for filleting is a VICTORINOX 6 INCH BONING KNIFE,,the victorinox knives are brilliant, under £10 pounds, kept sharp will last a life time,i still have one from 22 years ago still in good condition, the robert welch is a chef knife, cost £40 pounds, but they knock spots off of global and half the price.cheers
Hi mate, the mackerel does have a high oil count (omega 3 oils) but that is the reason the fish is so good for you,so embrace those natural oils keio, its brain food, many thanks scott.
I am happy I found this video. I wanted to try a new fish recipe. I'm Jamaican and in many mackerel dishes we use the brine version of the fish. However, I like cooking with fresh fish. THANKS ALOT!!!
Scott, have a go at pickling nasturtium seeds, they make a great caper like garnish. Really fiery. Though, I'm a purest myself when it comes to most fish, I like them as they are, save a little smoke.
Hope you catch some spad, this fish tastes awesome on its own ,but dressed up like this, its of the hook dude, give it a try you wont be disappointed, cheers mate,Scott.
Thanks mate, you will not be disappointed with the victorinox,on amazon.com the range from $19.00-$22.00 delivered a bargain, for a knife that stays sharp and lasts a lifetime when properly cared for ,all the best and keep watching, cheers.
Another thing I forgot to add, I know you didn't put any oil in the pan, but it looks like it's very oily, does the skin contain a lot of oil or something?
For all who do not know Mackerel, can be the best or worth dish. Do not apply if you are not able to cook it! It can become much more then horrible. Just learn and shut up!

Looks excellent! How do you remove the mackerel slime from the skin after you catch them?
Coleman's got rich on the bit left on the plate ... hehe
does this work the same for trawler caught mackerel
Another thing I forgot to add, I know you didn't put any oil in the pan, but it looks like it's very oily, does the skin contain a lot of oil or something?
do mackerel need to be scaled?
no, just wipe them down. They are kind of slimey, so just rub the slime off
Fuck yeah! this is great. I'll be using your recipe tomorrow should I have any luck reeling some of these bad boys in tonights hightide.
Don't forget the COLEMANS.
Wrap it in smoked back bacon ... next time

you loose a lot of fish cuttin it like that....
Send me your scissors, I'll sharpen them for you. People might ask why a body spends so much time on preparation. There's only one reply; ANTICIPATION
Your dog like those bones, I through fish bones would hurt them.
