I love people complaining that she's all "glammed up" now when it doesn't look like she's brushed her hair. Her sound has changed cause she's sober and happy now.
I'm gonna steal a silver stallion With not a mark upon his silky hide Teach him he can trust me like a sister One day we'll saddle up and ride And we're gonna ride We're gonna ride Ride like the one-eyed jack of diamonds With the Devil close behind We're gonna ride We're gonna ride... I'm gonna find me a reckless man Razor blades and ice in his eyes Just a touch of sadness in his fingers Thunder and lightning in his thighs And we're gonna ride We're gonna ride Ride like the one-eyed jack of diamonds With the Devil close behind We're gonna ride We're gonna ride... I'm gonna chase the sky forever With the man, the stallion and the wind The sun is gonna burn into a cinder Before we ever pass this way again And we're gonna ride We're gonna ride Ride like the one-eyed jack of diamonds With the Devil close behind We're gonna ride We're gonna ride...
With all do respect, Madonna and others like her are not musicians. They're entertainers, sorta like circus performers, or carnival sideshows. Performers like this are artists... actual musicians. So in my opinion, you're comparing apples to oranges here. But if you simply mean you'd rather listen to this than Madonna, then I'm 100% with you there.
The live versions of this song performed by the Highwaymen are embarrassingly bad. When three of the guitarists, (Willie, Kris K, and Johnny C) are not even playing their instruments half the time, because they haven't bothered to figure out the chords, and are merely grinning and goofing their way through a song they must not like enough to learn, much less interpret, I just have to tune it out. Cat Power's version is pared-down, and might as well be a completely different song, but it is far superior, and actually reveals the simple poetry of the lyrics, which is more than can be said of the performance of flatulent old supposed "giants in decline, " who couldn't even wait until they were on their way to the bank to start laughing. Chan Marshall is invested in the song, and gives herself to it fully.
@RealisticMeg Given that your interests include "Me, Harry Potter, me, Harry Potter, me and Luna Lovegood," - and not to mention a rather putrid desire for "TH-cam fame" (your parents must be proud, huh?) - I find it hard to take your insult seriously.
This version is my favorite
she's absolutely brilliant

that's pretty much how her live performances are these days
I am DYING to learn a most very basic of baasic (ie slide-less) way to play this essentially on my ukulele. Any help is appreciated, thank you.
Nothing like the original and not my style really, but thumbed up just because I see it as a tribute to the legendary Highwaymen.
I’m glad you told us 😉

It appears she had winked at him a couple times during the performance. At 1:04 and 1:54 after the smile. Were those 2 and item?
lol, I think she's just tipsy
No. I think she is sober as a judge here, which is why her singing is flawless.
No, they're friends.
