I am one of the cosplayers in the video, Professor Trelawney. First off, thank you for complimenting our cosplays. Everyone works really hard on them and puts love into them, so when we get a compliment, it is very special. We do not wish to take anything away from Universal Studios. We are just there to have fun. If Universal ever told us not to come in costume, we would all stop. There are several cast members that work there who know us and always greet us on their breaks. We love the cast members there they have always been kind and friendly to us and are aware of our group. I really wish you would have come up to us. We would have gladly answered any of your questions. We don't want to cause trouble for anyone, and all are welcome to join us in cosplay or just hang out with some HP nerds.😊
They’ve been doing this for literally 8 years since 2016. The group is Welcome to Hogsmeade/ Hogsmeade Weekenders and is a cosplay group for Harry Potter fans. They are very clear to group members that they are not to state they are employees, but are otherwise allowed to cosplay as long as they do not cover their face, or have anything that drags on the floor. This is nothing new and has been an ongoing occurrence since the park opened in Hollywood. Orlando is a lot more strict unless it’s the last weekend of January (former Celebration of Harry Potter weekend (now Uncelebration of Harry Potter). Generally as long as you don’t act like an employee, break the costuming rules, or cause traffic jams, you are fine at Universal Studios Hollywood
They sell the robes and everything there. I walked around in all slythrin gear all day and night wand and all in universal Florida it's so much fun and the shopkeepers and employees treat you like a student.
i have seen some parks if you do cosplay you can ask for a lanyard which basically says you don’t work for the park and all risks if guests interact with you is on you
If they are mistaken for an employed character the theme park could get erroneously sued if their actions are unprofessional and or harmful. Unlikely, but too much risk for the theme park.
@TheDisneylandersVideos you've got a good point there. At Disney last month there were a lot of cute toddlers in Tinkerbell outfits. But adults at the park is a lot different than at Comic Con.
I think it's cool that Universal is so laid back about it. Like other people have said, you can wear robes around the park and there are no HP meet and greets for these characters. As long as security, in uniform and undercover, keeps an eye on them, awesome. Superior to the Disney protocol. Maybe it's because Universal isn't charging for the photo op?
I’m the Mad Eye Moody - cosplayer - would have lived if you came up to us and got our input. We’ve followed guidelines - let people know we’re just park visitors - we don’t go in the summer or Halloween time.. keep it low key .. next time say, “Hi” appreciate the respectful conversation.
They are from a Harry Potter cosplay meetup, these aren’t the only people doing this, I once went during one of these meetups and there were probably hundreds of people dressed up as Harry Potter characters, universal isn’t like Disney, they’re fine with it
Yep. If they changed the rules, which is frustrating, just post it! But from what I understand, the HP world is fine with it. Disney, on the other hand, isn't, though they have their own rule posts. I'm sure back in the day, they'd give people the benefit of the doubt and assume it was innocent. But now, with the internet, it's like Disney people are all, "Liars! your trying to play the victim now!"
Is Universal seriously becoming better than Disney? God I think they are.... This is the way to do it. Keep an eye on them, but let them have their fun. Ads to the immersion and the fun.
I mean you can buy hogwarts robes and wear them around the park no matter how old you are... But those princess girls really do look like the real thing.
Glad to see the cosplay meetup members have commented. Bottom line is Universal and Disney's rules are different, both are very clear. No cosplay at disney and if you look like you COULD be mistaken for a cast member, you're out. Those girls must have had to change inside the park because I don't think they'd allowed past the front gate. Universal accepts cosplay with a few caveats like no masks and the cast members usually compliment you by saying something like "oh you look just like a witch I know...etc"
You can cosplay at Disney you just can't look exactly like any of their characters. The only exception is during Ogie Boogie when you can dress like Disney characters.
ok, Disney has a very clear rule about dressing up. Little girls can be princesses but they don''t want adults who look like Cinderella or whoever to act or say things not in a princess way so no adults dressing up. I have never heard anything like this being a rule elsewhere
The big difference between Disney and Universal is that Universal has NO HP film costume character cast members walking about. So you CAN'T be mistaken for a cast member if you are dressed like a HP character at Universal. I do it all the time, and my costumes are largely screen accurate. What they don't like is a large group of people gathering to take your photo. You WILL get asked to stop if that happens, but I've never been kicked out, and never seen anyone else get kicked out for wearing a costume. In fact, the staff always responds very positively (everyone calls me "Professor" when I'm Snape, etc). ONE EXCEPTION TO THE "NO MOVIE COSTUMED CAST MEMBERS" - at Halloween time, they have people dressed as Death Eaters work the crowds during Halloween Horror nights. It's also worth mentioning, if I were to try to be a Death Eater and wore a MASK, I would be told to take it off or not allowed in because masks are not allowed on guests under any circumstances.
On Mickey’s Halloween and for Oogie Boogie’s adventure, it’s listed on Disney’s website that you can’t pose for pictures with other guests as a park employee.
From what I've seen online Universal is generally low key accepting of it as long as you don't like dress up as say the other schools or get mistaken as a cast member. Specially in Japan where cosplay is a big thing, I've seen videos of people dressing up as Ron, Harry, ect with no issues. With Disney it's only main characters and Not So Scary event Disney is a bit less restrictive, but again like no prince or princesses. Disney bounding is ok and I think to some extent wigs, but don't quote me on the wigs.
That’s my best friend and her husband! Yay! They are amazing at their cosplay and they do charity events with it. They were NEVER kicked out and in fact are very supported by universal studios.
I think Disney is more critical not only about the Disney guests looking too close to their characters, but also the legality of their image in public spaces. And I think because of things like social media, they come down harder on things like this. Disney’s image is also a big part of their brand. Universal also does thing like not permitting face paint or sfx make up at HHN too cause they don’t want guest mistaken for scare actors. And besides Harry Potter, guests dressing up at USH is not as common as Disney parks.
Hi. Im the Gilderoy Lockhart cosplayer in your video. We are a group of friends who have fun meeting at the park. I organized this meetup which was a Friends-giving... typically we sit in the back, play games, eat, and relax. Occasionally some of us go walk, talk with cast members and guests, and shop. Weve been doing this along with others for years and have a good repore with the park. Rules are cosplay is allowed, no masks, no face paint, no large cumbersome props or weapons. We are clear about informing guest that we do not work for Universal or Warner Bros... we are just fans like they are enjoying the park. We are allowed to have photos taken of us but we are supposed to refrain from taking pictures with guests. At times it does happen, and we try to be quick and move from the area so as to not encourage a crowd or lines forming. We love the team members and have friends throughout the park, and we respect management and every request they ask of us. Photos amongst our group is allowed with no issues. If we need to be reminded of the rules we accept it graciously and respect their wishes. All in all its just fun. The interaction you saw with the conductor was him asking us how we are doing and us talking and interacting as he would with any guest. They are fantastic workers and we support them. Often we also travel to Orlando and they have the same rules and enforce them a bit more than Hollywood tends to, but we have a good time and respect them very much as well. Please feel free to reach ojt with any questions i can help answer for you.
Idk i feel like cosplay should be alowd but there should be something to destinguish them from actual staff. like maybe have a item of clothing that only the staff have to make it more clear they are offical
I understand to liability aspect of it, but I think people should be able to cosplay. Maybe if Disney and Universal requires a pin to be worn if you are going to cosplay, not something that will completely break the emersion, then maybe that might help satisfy their liability aspect of it?
Disney is not the happiest place on earth its a dream killer and a money maker. That employee Ryan followed a script to the T as a manager of a park. (Its a safty concern f that you just dont like being upstaged)
This is what Disney should do send a security guard to hover and keep them safe ehile in the park not kick them out and act all high and mighty about it.
Disney character actors go through training to not only portray their characters, but also to stay in character, and how to handle situations. They also always have handlers with them to manage the crowd. Consider that Disney characters draw very young children, and Disney wants to keep the magic for them, and insure they have wholesome, safe interactions. A random person in costume might not keep character, might say or do things that are alarming, or that could even create liability for Disney. At Universal, it is not as much of a concern, when they do not even actively have actors portraying those characters, so there is less likely to be confusion. Very young children are also not really involved (compared to a 3 year-old obsessed to have her moment, and hug with Elsa). It is about keeping kids safe. Do you want your kids running-up, and hugging un-vetted people just because they are in a costume? Also, consider the amount of work, and increase in security staff that would be needed to "hover" around all adult cos-players if it was allowed.
I say let people cosplay in the parks they're having fun and they aren't beings rude they're creating memories and as long as they are being respectful to other and not causing problems let them enjoy their time
For Universal, the whole idea is for patrons to have a menorable experience, if people go in in cosplay and help give that great experience at no cost to the franchise, its a win win for everyone. Lets just hope that all cosplay characters are well mannered and well behaved. This could make a mundane visit a truly magical experience for younger patrons who would then choose to return again and again. Universal knows their audience and they are open to ideas, thats why I love their business model.
Allowing cosplay at Disney World would be an easy way to revive interest in the parks, if it's not already too late for the Disney Corp. Universal has the right idea. Just have an employee nearby to observe but not interfere.
I've seen them in the parks a lot, I think they come almost once a week. I think USH is fine with them doing this, Disney is much more into stopping people from dressing up
@@TheDisneylandersVideos I've never talked to them but see them a good amount. I think Sundays are when I've seen them the most and they have been for sure doing this for at least a year, I know I saw them last Grinchmas.
At universal studios, if too many people start to draw attention to the guest who are cosplaying security will talk to them and give them the option to either change to where its not so noticeable or they will be asked to leave but are welcomed to come back as long as they arent still a look like to the characters
Universal has never done either of those to us or friends. If there is a rules issue they remind us to follow them, but we've never been asked to change or leave for both Hollywood and Orlando
Funny how me and my family were there!! I saw them walking around people taking Pictures and video, plus they attracted a lot of people around, yet I couldn't find them at the same time

They sell full adult costumes and cosplay wands and canes and everything else. It’s just stupid if they didn’t allow that immersion that they are selling! As far as interactions, as long as they never claim to be cast member it shouldn’t be an issue. Cast members have security and lines, guests do not.
As best as I can tell Universal doesn't care if you cosplay as long as you don't try to charge guests. I hear of cosplayers going into Universal all the time. Disney just doesn't want adults having fun dressing up as princesses...
You can't expect ppl to not dress up if you're going to create that kind of environment for them. C'mon... I'ts not their fault they may be really good at it lol
If they at least gave him the option to change out of the outfit in a private area and place the costume in a locker, wash off any makeup and whatnot, that should be fair. Or if he agrees to leave the park, go change elsewhere and leave his costume out of the park he should be allowed back in.
So as a former universal employee I used to see people dress up in cosplay all the time. And I never got kicked out for it. Some universal employees are just butts trying to get attention. And I see nothing wrong by them doing cosplay at universal because their big Harry Potter fans so am I I thought about dressing up as Dobby
I just happen to personally know one of the Harry Potter cosplayers in this video. Im not going to call them out. I think its very cool for people to be able to cosplay at theme parks. Its a way of getting yourself completely immersed in the universe. You yourself belongs there. I believe those Harry Potter cosplayers go there every now and then. However I see the other side because they are not getting paid and Universal is not getting paid for them. Its a profit think I think.
It seems like that universal is ol with people cosplaying Harry Potter characters or whatever, even the girls I dressed up as princesses for Mickey’s not a scary Halloween party, I feel like they should have not got kicked out even though their costumes were on point I mean, I’ve seen people dress up as princesses before that look exactly like the park princesses and they don’t get kicked out
It’s kinda hard to be someone who’s a super fan and a walking costume character,…they don’t want a little kid mistaken for the real to the fakes, the fakes could be p3do and they don’t have escorts like the walking costume characters
@@TheDisneylandersVideos But what I understood was in Disney, unless its a Halloween party only children under 13 are allowed to appear in costumes, not adults. I understood that Universal didn't have the same attitude. I mean they don't have their own characters walking around unless its the Death Eaters at Halloween. In fact on Universal's own website, it implies that you can wear costume as long as you abide by certain guidelines.
As a former Cast member at Disney I don’t think that adults should dress up as characters in a park. Too many weirdo’s and park would be liable if something would happen. Now if a park wants to have a special ticketed event that would be different. It would probably get sold out 😂
I don’t really think they were dressed EXACTLY like the characters. But please DO NOT COMPARE this to Disney. Disney is very overrated and I’ve been going to Disney world for 29 years. They have a more snobby way of doing things. But now I’m more excited for Epic universe! Disney is just going downhill every day. They need to take lessons. I enjoyed your video. 👍
@@ChienaAvtzonno I didn’t. I would look at them and automatically know. It’s the WIGS for me that throw the vibe off. If you got a good eye you would know like I did.
That potter area is so boring. All facades with nothing to do. Train is total waste. Hated it. If I want a little scene on the window, I’ll watch the movie. Stupid not even a ride ride. Waste of lots of $$.
If they wanted to cosplay inside the parks, why not wait until around Halloween time to do it. I know you can for Disney at both Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party and Boo Bash.
Just Leave all the characters to the universal actors who do a brilliant job. I personally think considering the price to get in I would want a world class experience from the professionals. I am surprised they got the full costumes through security Fair enough it was a robe and a wand but a full costume
Thank you for the comment. We walk in fully dressed, no trickery or changing afterwards. Security has always been professional and courteous to us. I agree with you... let the park actors be the ones who interact and bring magic ti visitors. They do a phenomenal job and we support them fully. We let guests who approach us know we don't not work for Universal, we are fans enjoying the land.
Disney has a rule that bans adults from wearing costumes. Costumes are only allowed for children there, and it stems from being a safety precaution. It is to prevent children from being kidnapped and abused. Honestly, I think Universal needs to impose a similar rule too. Cosplay causes children to mistaken random guests as cast members and employees.
Yeah but people in the comments are saying these people show up at universal all the time. And if these people are doing it how long till others follow?
@ - Universal is being incredibly irresponsible not imposing a costume ban. A child should not have to be hurt for them to wake up to how dangerous it is to have cosplayers in the parks.
Universal is a more adult park and to be far they are selling the Hogwarts student robes and other robes so people will want a photo of themselves wearing them in the park.
As fun as it is to cosplay and be the bad guy, you need to remember that those are private places, families don't want evil near their kids. Even if it's pretend.
That’s such bullshit ! I never heard of this before! I always dress up for stuff like that! If you paid you should get in PERIOD! They aren’t dressed like Nazis or hateful etc, who cares! It’s not a reflection of the company! They are individuals responsible for themselves! If something happens it’s not on Disney it’s on the aggressor.
It's okay to dress up or Disney bound/non Disney bound but cosplaying in both Disney and Universal is another thing that could be a liability to both parks.

As far as interactions, as long as they never claim to be cast member it shouldn’t be an issue. Cast members have security and lines, guests do not.
100% correct Universal is an adult-themed park.
Disney policy vs universal policy
The answer is simple, there are ZERO meet and greets in the Harry Potter lands
Train conductor? That’s a meet and greet
It’s actually Warner brothers that is in charge of this land
What is that it’s the unknown
I say yes to cosplay.
I pretty sure they can’t take pictures with park guests
Shouldn't but do and will continue despite criticism
If they at least gave him the option to change out of the outfit in a private area and place the costume in a locker, wash off any makeup and whatnot, that should be fair. Or if he agrees to leave the park, go change elsewhere and leave his costume out of the park he should be allowed back in.
When it's not organized, that's usually what happens
Oh look, another reason im glad I no longer have Disney APs and switched to Universal.
Speaking of butts, I thought your profile picture was a butt but it's carpet
I just happen to personally know one of the Harry Potter cosplayers in this video. Im not going to call them out. I think its very cool for people to be able to cosplay at theme parks. Its a way of getting yourself completely immersed in the universe. You yourself belongs there. I believe those Harry Potter cosplayers go there every now and then. However I see the other side because they are not getting paid and Universal is not getting paid for them. Its a profit think I think.
Wearing face masks outside. 😂 Merca
It seems like that universal is ol with people cosplaying Harry Potter characters or whatever, even the girls I dressed up as princesses for Mickey’s not a scary Halloween party, I feel like they should have not got kicked out even though their costumes were on point I mean, I’ve seen people dress up as princesses before that look exactly like the park princesses and they don’t get kicked out
Maybe kids dressing as princesses but never grown adults are dressed as princesses in the parks.
It’s kinda hard to be someone who’s a super fan and a walking costume character,…they don’t want a little kid mistaken for the real to the fakes, the fakes could be p3do and they don’t have escorts like the walking costume characters
They are taking views away from the cast members.
I always thought that Universal were less stiff about it.
I still wouldn’t try it.
It would probably get sold out 😂
Best not to lore kids yes. I don't understand why people don't see the issue
It’s fun and hurting no one
It's an opportunity for disaster
There is the image, brand, level of expectation etc. that Disney or any other company that must be protected. And then there are possible lawsuits.
@@Tinkerellastreasuretrunk - One of the cosplayers is literally dressed up as Lockhart. So you contradicted yourself.
@@ChienaAvtzonno I didn’t. I would look at them and automatically know. It’s the WIGS for me that throw the vibe off.
If you got a good eye you would know like I did.
USH does not have harry potter themed meet and greets per the contract with JK rowling
That’s not true. There’s a meet and greet in universal Japan
@@TheDisneylandersVideos I'm referring to USH specify
That potter area is so boring. All facades with nothing to do. Train is total waste. Hated it. If I want a little scene on the window, I’ll watch the movie. Stupid not even a ride ride. Waste of lots of $$.
If they wanted to cosplay inside the parks, why not wait until around Halloween time to do it. I know you can for Disney at both Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween party and Boo Bash.
Universal doesn’t encourage dressing up during Halloween because they have scare actors walking around the parks
Dang your hella nosy
Just Leave all the characters to the universal actors who do a brilliant job.
I personally think considering the price to get in I would want a world class experience from the professionals.
I am surprised they got the full costumes through security
Fair enough it was a robe and a wand but a full costume
@@ChienaAvtzon no you just sound like a Disney fan boy
@@Faceplay2 - You are just a creep who does not have children. Universal should not be allowing cosplay in their parks. End of story.
People should be allowed to cosplay. Disney and Universal is getting to big for their britches. We need a replacement park to these.
Awww you’re comment is so cute lol
Looks like a test for something bigger
Nope just us having fun. We've been doing it since 2016 / 2017.
As fun as it is to cosplay and be the bad guy, you need to remember that those are private places, families don't want evil near their kids. Even if it's pretend.
All it takes is one person. Best not to get to that point
There’s a difference between dressing up and really good cosplay costumes.
@@TheDisneylandersVideosoh, I use it interchangeably
It's okay to dress up or Disney bound/non Disney bound but cosplaying in both Disney and Universal is another thing that could be a liability to both parks.
Disney banned adults from wearing costumes years ago, for safety reasons.
