    Thanks so much!!! I have been banging my head for 3 days trying to figure why I couldn't get my captive portal guest network working as it should by giving Internet access and denying access to my local network your video is the first video that I have watched that actually explained what the allowed and restricted IP addresses were for. On my system it was worded pre and post auth and somehow the defaults had been deleted...so internet access worked but they also had access to my local network. Thanks again for helping me put end to a three-day headache!

    The concepts are is still the same, but the location to setup the portal is no longer in profiles, and the page layout has changed. Enabling the portal on the Wifi page has also changed.

    So you mentioned that if you set up a password under the guest network, and already require one for the SSID, that you'd need to enter both. Is there something simpler other than a password under guest options that my business could use without removing the SSID password? We want it to remain as secure as possible and only have one network right now.

    So i tried to setup one up for Wireless - selected wireless then select middle to guest link takes me to the guest portal to configure - then i gave it a title to save but when i select a different wireless it shows the same template, unable to make more is this valid?

    Do you know how to configure the guest WiFi to be password protected(not open) as well as utilize the captive portal with vouchers? We were able to get the vouchers working with the captive portal but we were unsuccessful with password protecting that same network(SSID) before they enter the voucher code.

    Is it possible to create a external captive portal where the student to connect has to enter his student ID number? Using a database to validate the info the student entered?

      at 2:30 (is possibly) visible answer to your question (and answer is RADEUS) radius is back end server which is usually capable to communicate w/ some kind of database to autentificare users additionally (in your case student ID number) -- companies will use it for there employs i.e. student.

    Hi there, Thanks for the step by step guide, my question: Do you have to have an active internet connection for the Portal page to appear. I have a local server no internet connection, and I want to redirect users to to the server ip upon connection.

    Thanks so much for this video.. When I have like 20 access points in the same building and all of them in the same network, how the portal can be centralized so that the access as well as the time limit will run despite of where the guest has moved throughout the building... is that handle by on the of the access points? or do I need a server to manage the access portal?

    • @Animayhemlive

      Yes, it's listed as 'redirect to URL' under 'Success Landing Page' within the hotspot manager. (As of Unifi os 3.2.7)

    Hi, just watch this tutorial. Great. I would need to activate the portal but I would 500 simultaneous connexions. I guess I would need to create multiple vlans to get 500 IP's but will the portal handle multiple vlans ?

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would stick with one VLAN and just give that VLAN a class B IP range (172.16.0.0)

    can udm offer a user name and password on the captive portal? This way you can restrict the user on different policies and monitor the traffic based on users

  •  ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video, very well explained. But, I have a question, can I create multiple hotspots? For example, a restaurant with a terrace, which wants to give restaurant customers a voucher. That the portal on the terrace is one and in the restaurant another. I am thinking of changing equipment that I have working with the Omada platform from TP-Link and this is allowed there, here, I only get a single "Guest Portal"

    • @milorkr
      @milorkr ปีที่แล้ว

      You would just create a new site so that you can have different guest portal configurations for.

    Amazing Video! I was wondering if an USG gateway would be required to create the VLANS, or just the AP and the controller would do the job?

    • @senjuxo7595
      @senjuxo7595 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on your network. We created the VLANs to the switch that the AP's were connected to for that job. I don't believe you can actually tag the VLANs without the USG.

    Just started watching; "wifi type" is not even in the interface (latest version) also switching to legacy interface it does not exist.
    I have a captive portal setup that does not redirect.
    Apply guest policies (captive portal, guest authentication, access) is checked.

    not so keen on that for a home network.

      Nope, the only cost is the initial purchase of the hardware. You can also self host a controller yourself on a PC.

    I did the guest hotspot setup using an open network however, the AP does not broadcast using the wifi6 standard. The encrypted networks still do. It there any explanation for this? Great video BTW!

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I understand, the WiFi 6 standard does not support open networks for security reasons.

    • @simple_networks
      @simple_networks  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you have a unifi controller that is always online, it should work across their range of access points.

    1. Make open guest network
    2. Redirect them to youtube to rickroll
    3. throttle that network to something unusable, say 100kilobits up and down
    4. Profit.
