Sunny Monday afternoon in Bedford town centre.
.... Now in Australia, but born in Bedford in 1969 and lived there until 1992. The most surprising thing about this 2019 video, is how little has changed. The town centre is almost in a time warp. But actually nice to see Debenhams has stood the test of time - my favourite place to see Santa back in the 1970s.

Very similar but Debenhams is on the way out I am afraid. A lot is being pedestrianised but unfortunately customer numbers have dropped dramatically by going online or out of town.
When I left Bedford in Feb 1971, it was EP Roses

I studied in Cranfield university. Lived in Bedford for over three years. Beautiful town, met lots of wonderful people there. Hope to visit again one day soon. Love from Afghanistan. Great video!

Cranfield is mainly engineering. Aircraft, cars (inc. racing. There is a huge racing industry in this part of the country), other mechanical stuff. It has it's own airfield.

Oh! Another brilliant video of Bedford to comment on! :) Too much to say so I will only comment on the final clip shot from the centre of the Suspension Bridge.
I designed “Bridge View”, the 6 apartment building on the corner of Bushmead and The Embankment, for Michaelangelo Properties Ltd in 1991. This view is from the single most perfect standpoint looking towards it and the view from three of the patio doors is the single most perfect view of the same standpoint! There was a pond in the very corner of the site. When I stood on the rocks around the edge of it to look over the then high boundary wall, I saw the most perfect view of the Suspension Bridge. The very first line I drew on my plan was a wall at 45° to the road and perpendicular to the centre of the Suspension Bridge through the pond location. I wanted a large patio door on each floor above the pond to perfectly frame the entire bridge. After drawing this, I designed the rest of the building :)
The view was far to precious to waste on an entrance door so I put that around the back in Bushmead and placed all the living room and master bedroom windows and balconies overlooking the river. Turned out ok :)

I have been in that building delivering & the first thing I noticed was the great views around the river. It takes one good architect to see beyond the building to create this. Great job.
@@ENGLISHISBEST Thank you. Every building allows two views. One looking towards it and one looking from it. The view towards it involves many design considerations of course as it is only this that passers by usually see. But whilst the view from the building “is what it is” the manner in which those inside the building “see” the view can and must be designed in order to ensure it is maximized. So the spaces justifying “a view” from within the building need to be positioned accordingly. By ruling out the entrance, stairs and lift landings as justifying “a view”, significantly more window, patio door and balcony wall space became available to provide commanding views of the Suspension Bridge, the River Great Ouse and stunning Victorian Embankment. Every design element must be fully considered at the planning stage. It is much easier to make early changes in AutoCAD than on site when the development is complete!
