Great videos, this is top notch stuff man. Many times better forging and commentary than other sites with several hundred thousand subscribers. Keep it up please!
Great video! This will help a lot as I am still pretty new to bladesmithing and have had a harder time with full tang knives and shaping the handle. You did a great job of explaining what you are doing and why you are doing it that way. All in all great informative video!
I wish two things… 1. To see you finish this blade and 2. To come have a day in the shop with you. You explain things so well. I love the narration of your video. The plunge and the bevels really gave me fits on the first knife I just forged this past weekend. Wish I could show you a pic so you could advise. I’ll just keep beating and practicing. I’ll get there.
Thank you! I gave just hammered out my first hand forged full tang knife based on this info. My tang came out a little long, but Im very happy with it overall. :)
Really like this video. Didn't know about the twist corrections you covered. That's gonna help me tremendously. That and the way you covered establishing the plunge lines and distle taper are absolute game changers! Hopefully much less time is spent at the grinder!
What kind of hammer are you using? I have one I bought estate sell but both ends are mushrooming out. I’m thinking about grinding on it. Hopefully I’ll not ruin it!
Grind in the tang taper!? That's not blacksmithing Sam :p Some really good tips towards the end of the video there, cheers! I'll try to remember those :D
I have flubbed up my scales when I try affix them to a tapered tang. It must be a matter of getting it totally flat on either side. More practice. Beautiful piece right off the anvil brother.
You probably dont give a shit but does someone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow forgot my login password. I love any tricks you can offer me
@Jaziel Sage I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and I'm in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later with my results.
Awesome work Sam, a very informative video indeed! With tapering false edges or harpoon type edges, does the angle of the bevels have to gradually get more obtuse as you move towards the tip? Congrats on 6000 subs btw!
Great video. Especially the info on finishing tapers, bends and twists! Thank you.

Marvellous information dude! Would love to have your voice volume a little louder over the anvil. Can’t wait for more 😎
Thanks mate, yeah I will do better on the audio mixing next time!

Well done sir, as always loads of information 👏
Cheers Wayne 🥰
Nice and clean video! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
I can't swing a 5 lb hammer for more than a few heats, respect.
Great video Sam! Very useful for the novice smith that I am.
Thanks mate, glad it helps!
Nice job. New smith here greatly appreciative about video and pointers... Forging ricasso to bevels is a bitch although I'm getting it down...
Great video! Very helpful!
Cheers Ed 😁
Great video Sam!
Thanks mate!
Great video. Very useful.
Thanks! Glad you found it enlightening

My first forge was too big and was a fuel hog to get any heat. My second charcoal forge can MELT/BURN my steel in 30 seconds from a dull red...
Another great video!

Thanks mate! Actually the angles get very slightly more acute toward the tip, good question though!
@@SamTownsBladesmith Is that to do with the distal taper of the blade then?
@@lukegraham1945 yep!
@@SamTownsBladesmith Ok cool, found my issue then. Thanks for helping!
@@lukegraham1945 no worries, glad to help!
Good stuff as always
Thanks mate
FULL TANG GANG FULL TANG GANG! :D
What type of tongs are these? Look way better than the regular starter ones I have for holding stock.
They are a pair of Christ Centred Ironworks style tongs I forged a while ago
Working late Sam ?
Just a tad!
Wow I’m first !
🤣🤣 you are!
