    DUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!! Best use of an S280 yet! Now I see what you were doing with those parts. I bet the stake pockets on the bed might come in handy for a more secure mount. The military hi-lo shelters use those stake pockets.
    I am really impressed with this design idea Neil. Keep at it.

      @NEILSWORLD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Sean, I thought of utilizing the stake pockets but decided against it. If I build a lift to use without the shelter it will definitely go in the state pockets.

    Love IT! So jealous. If I couldn't get an M1079 I would be looking for something like this - man that box looks heavy - like a shipping container. Or the M1086 (with crane), imagine picking camper off back and setting on site.

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, the s280 shelter is all aluminum but I have added quite a bit of heavy steel to it 😆. One of these days I'll get it weighed up and see how much it is. That would be so cool to set up camp with the crane.

    Just a hint, i pull a flatbed n do this when i unload, you got atis so itll work the same. Lift the box till its clear n then in my case, i dump my air suspension, just in case theres a bump thatll put my trailer up to the load. Try lowering your tire pressure when you unload n reload the box. Gives an extra lil margin

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good idea but it takes about 10 minutes to lower the air pressure in 10 minutes to pressure back up. When there's no load on the back of the truck the tires don't squash hardly at all when going to the lowest tire pressure setting. I'll keep a close eye on the bed to make sure it doesn't raise into the load. 👍

  • @JayakrishnanNairOmana
    @JayakrishnanNairOmana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since the truck has a central air inflation system, have you thought of the easier option to simply mount the box on foldable stands on the ground (without needing jacks on all sides) and to lower the air pressure from the tires to pull the truck out? It seems a lot simpler, less effort and will require carrying a lot less weight on the bed.

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With no weight on the bed the tires do not squash nearly enough when set to the lowest air pressure to get out from under the camper.

    • @JayakrishnanNairOmana
      @JayakrishnanNairOmana 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NEILSWORLD Still, if the camper is securely bolted to legs on ground and all connections with the truck are unfastened, the truck should still be easily be able to pull out with the lowest PSI (may be manually reduce even more?) and at worst you risk lightly scraping the underside of the cabin with the bed?

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JayakrishnanNairOmana the tires simply do not squash enough. You also have to account for the suspension, as the weight comes off the bed the leaf springs raise the bed up. I do use the technique of letting the air out of the rear tires to get the camper through my shop door.😅

    • @NEILSWORLD
      @NEILSWORLD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      With the jacks you can also level the camper perfectly when off the truck.

    What happens if the wind picks up, how will it be stable? You could add on an additional brackets similar to the ones you have to lift the shelter but at an angle for more stability similar to how it would on a backhoe.

    I love military trucks, but DAmN you need a whole logistics parts system to support them, not to mention fuel trucks. Gimme a Ford F550 ...almost same gvw, and stop at Anytown USA for parts and support. Good luck to you.
