you are honestly one of the best tutorial type sim racers out there and even though I dont race oval much, most of your tips can be applied to all racing. keep doing great man
@@DJYeeJayit's bizarre to me people go from street stock straight to ARCA, ignoring the modified and late model. It seems like a big jump to go from something that's almost always tight to a car that's super loose
It sucks that most short track series on iRacing are effectively dead. I enjoyed the original version of the super late model a ton but nobody races it anymore in officials. Short track setups are much simpler to build than the NASCAR A/B/C stuff and testing goes much quicker too but even the fixed setup series is not very popular at all. Hardly anybody in the main NASCAR series respects or even understands how to race short tracks anymore and it shows, especially at tracks like Martinsville. It seems like the CARS Late Model Stocks is the only short track series that is thriving sadly, and I suspect that is mainly due to the current version of the late model stock being super gripped up and fairly easy to drive. The worst decision iRacing ever made was to move the rookie oval series away from Legends on the bullring style short tracks to street stocks at freaking Charlotte and USA which is a larger than normal "short" track but people couldn't even handle that track either. Most oval drivers nowadays have no clue what to do if the lap isn't flat out or mostly flat out and it shows in the quality of racing at most ovals that requires braking.
@TeamAbrams agree. Most people don't like to drive anything that requires you to use the brakes and have throttle control. Even the exfinity car which behaves a lot like most short track cars is fairly easy to drive on 1.5 mile tracks.
Me and the guys in the league I’m in talk about which series people run pretty often. The LMS fixed is like the 5th or 6th most popular oval series which isn’t bad. SK fixed also isn’t bad with people racing it. The Indy 2000s have been becoming more and more used too. The nascar mods and SLMs are dead tho sadly
as you mentioned before your test drive, yes SLM fixed is on a lifeline lol. i run it fairly often and its rare to split, especially at paid tracks such as Oswego
Steering offset, ratio, and brake bias are my best friend in fixed setup and a great tool in open setup for fine tuning. I have buttons programmed for adjusting the brake bias on the fly as i drive. I like more rear brake and a higher ratio. Offset depends on the track.
I just broke the 2k iR on ovals. Mostly thanks to Your tips and videos Justin 🙂European guy who never had anything with oval racing! Keep up the good work You doing 🙂
@@DJYeeJay At the beginning of the video when talking before you start driving, the words are a little louder and softer depending on which way you're facing. It's not a big deal but a tiny bit distracting and noticeable on headphones IMO. Compression essentially helps to bring up the low volume and bring down the high volume. Again, not a deal breaker but something I noticed
Got it! Yeah that tends to be a problem with these type of videos where I’m doing something and not just talking into my mic like for video essay type vids.
Hey DJ. Loving the content and your responsiveness. I'm curious, how you learned all of this technique? You are very intimate with the details of technique and strategy without the real life experience and there doesn't seem to be and literature on oval racing like there is for road racing. Thanks!
I figured a lot of it initially but that only got me partway there, then once i got help with some really good sim racers thats when I really started to get it. A couple who really come to mind in giving me exact tips are Larry Pace and Logan Clampitt. The rest of it came from over the last couple years doing youtube it forced me to have to put things into words so it made me think more critically about what I'm doing.
Best method is to go fast lmao. Something I had struggled with. A lot of times you can just push way more than you think. Also yes superlates are dead lmao. Run the LMS if you want short tracks😂
Intresting…going to try these tactics right now Question: Should iracing bring back the 2014 gen 6 cars for like a 900 HP challenge as opposed to the 500-700 next gen?
You're follow up video should be how to race prep. Yes, you ran a single pole lap, but i bet you cannot do it 50 times consecutively while also keeping the tires from shredding. I see lots of people lay blistering qualifying laps, but then fall off because they dont know how to manage their car in race.
Any chance you could make a terms video that you could link in the description of every vid? There are a lot of terms you use without a thought that I have to google. Obviously a me problem but I think others would benefit. Even simple stuff like “drive off straight” or “snap” can be confusing.
To learn them you have to run them.
I wish more people used the Time Trial series to keep the weather and track state more consistent

I would love to see more super late model content from you! This was extremely helpful and I feel there aren’t many people making super late content
I’m gonna be real that was the first time I drove the SLM in 2 years

Offset is still comfort based but it helps with consistency between tracks to always have your wheel settle in the same place
@DJYeeJay 100% agree. It does help with turn in and rotation but mainly it's tuning for how I prefer to drive.
@@DJYeeJay Yeah, using 16:1 on a 14" wheel will feel more like navigating a pirate ship across the seven seas, rather than a Racecar around a track.
