That's the first time I've ever properly seen how thrust reversers work, even though I understood the general mechanism. That is very cool.
Mee too
The
A few weeks ago I was flying on a 737-700 and I was positioned at a window perfectly placed for watching the thrust reversers in operation which was something I'd never seen before. It was really cool.
The blocker doors are a pain to change
It's the same concept as the old external "buckets" that used to swing open to cover the engine exhaust and direct it forward. Now it all happens inside the engine surround.
That gear rotation on the B52 was neater than socks on a duck !
I had to read that last word twice, because ... 🤣
Now you have me searching for an image of socks on a duck.
The B52 and C17 gear retraction complexities are only surpassed by a C172RG 😂
q: Why do ducks have flat feet?
a: To stamp out forest fires.
q: Why do elephants have flat feet?
a: To stamp out flaming ducks.
Looks just as cool from inside.
The worst thing abt 3 Minutes of aviation videos is that it's only 3 minutes 😭
Facts
Double edged sword. I'd get less done if it was longer
Duh
Amazing instrument monitoring and reaction speed from the F15 pilot on the flameout. Speed brake out within 2 seconds! I bet you can feel the yaw with just one engine in full reheat...
The
He is not monitoring his instruments. He is looking outside. This is purely triggered by the sudden yaw and probably sound.
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 Agree with the yaw but I bet he was still monitoring the engine performance as well? Obviously I am not flying F15s for a living🤣. The spacing between the engines on the F15 is relatively small compared to aircraft like the F14 so I guess the yaw is less noticeable but would still be interested to know from real F15 pilots how quickly this is noticed without instrument readings.
@@RevitStructureBlog they are looking outside through the HUD. The HUD has no engine parameters. They are not looking at their engine instruments during the take off roll.
Even though the engines are close together, there is enough yaw to immediately know something is wrong, as well as an immediate reduction of thrust. They feel the airplane isn’t performing as it should.
I don’t fly fighter, but I’ve flown with enough guys who have.
@@rtbrtb_dutchy4183 But I am sure that a flame out would be reported... On most aircraft an engine out is a master caution....
That B52 was **cough** **cough** very cool **cough** takeoff…
Thanks for sharing my spin recovery video!
Were you the instructor or the student? Either way, that video was badass! I was taught spins on my third flight, and did one myself on my second solo in 2001. Hella fun maneuver!

Same here. The whole point of stall recovery is so you never get into a spin like this guy did. I've flown aerobatics and done spins (and spin recoveries), and they're even more fun!
Aaaah! I've always wondered how those thrust reversers worked, I've never seen it from that angle.
I"ve never seen a crabbed take-off before! Had no idea it was even a thing!
The B52 wheel configuration is unusual in allowing a crabbed angle while on the ground since all four gear are steerable. This wouldn’t be possible in most other aircraft where only the nose or tail wheel is steerable
Nice reaction by the F-15 driver!

A live version of the Engine In reverse thrust SO COOL!
I love all your videos thank you for all you do!
Hi 👋, best channel Aviation! 😊
The
the b-52 runs on coal?
I think THAT particular one runs on Bunker-C
It's actually a mix of diesel, octane-enhancer and recycled chip fat.
S'why it smokes like a capuchin - and if you are ever following behind one, you can smell the odour of kebabs, chicken nuggets and French fries!
Wow. I didn't know the B52 could crab like that.
I did, although until I saw this this video I only went by what I was told about it!
Thanks for the clips
The mechanic who serviced the A380 now drives a taxi in Dubai.
Why? This is utterly idiotic take - maintnensce was probably done rooeorlg
What's wrong with driving a taxi?
Great video!
Excellent !!!
If they built this into commercial jets, especially the larger ones, there cross wind landings would be a whole lot smoother & cause a lot less damage to both the landing gear & runways.
There would also be a lot more weight from the added servo motors and other related machinery to make it work, and that would reduce the payload available for passengers and luggage...not to mention the added maintenance cost.
@@paulis7319 And more than a little bit of upset passengers realizing that they are going sideways.
I love these videos
That spin at the end looked fun!
I would bet that if a Boeing had a gear failure on takeoff, it would be all over the news 😂
My guess is someone forgot to remove the gear pins. Gear pins are installed on the ground by the mechanics when they tow the aircraft to stop the gear from inadvertently retracting, and then obviously are to be removed before flight.
Cool! 😁👍
The
@0:46 amazing how fast the pilot of the F15e notices the engine failure and aborts
That time a B52 declared an emergency with an engine failure and another pilot on frequency commented "oh no, the dreaded 7-engine landing." XD
Those B52s are absolute behemoths of the aviation world.. glorious.
I've never seen a crabbed take off - is that unique to the Buff or can other bombers and military transport steer the rear wheels for a crabbed take off as well?
The
Unique to the B-52 I believe
The B-52 is the only aircraft in the world with this feature. The gear stays centerline, the aircraft is turned or crabbed into the wind.
Also, there are little wheels at the end of the wings to help handle flex. At the end of the clip you can see them fold up.
F-15's nozzle sound is awesome
Forget the F-15 reaction time. The screech from the bleed air escaping from pressure relief valves for the win.
What’s harder, landing on an angled deck w/ unfavorable winds, or talking off a B-52 in a crosswind like that?
Carrier landing is 100x harder
landing, I'd say.
1:53 Amazing skills!
These clips have been around for years.
Judging by your username, so have you.
C172’s artificial horizon just blacked out nose low or was that intentional? 2:36
There’s a chance that avionics model has actual gyros inside compared to more modern options available. Gyros can tumble, which is what could’ve happened.
AFAIK all decent avionics display a red cross if some element of the screen is invalid, not a black screen. Strange.

The B-52 has had that crabbing ability for so many decades now, I'm unsure why commercial airliners don't have anything like it by now. Is it just because it would require the main gear to rotate? I know that's not nothing but it's definitely doable.
So bizarre, but tactically essential...
Ive seen aircrafts fail to retract landing gear on take off mostly seen it on 789's
For a Boeing aircraft, failing to retract the landing gear is a win - at least they'd remembered to fit it.

The f15 was a compressor stall if I got my stuff right
I"ve seen B-52s do crab landings before but never a takeoff
fan
That's the smog of a thousand cars just in the take off.
when the B52 was first produced, the tricycle tracking landing gear was a top secret development. The government (we had a real government with balls back then) had top secret engineers, machinists, all workers were vetted and background checked then given a top secret rating (My dad was one of the machinists) to produce the gear
Hard to make out the undercarriage on the B-52 with all the soot in the air.
The B-52 takeoff is the winner. Hands down!

" the crab start " 😶🌫
btw: he smokes like diesel...
Can someone please explain to me why commercial airlines don't have gear like the B-52 has, enabling it to have it'd nose pointed more into the wind during takeoff and landing while it's gear is more aligned with the runway? Why are we doing it 2 different ways? surely one way is better than the other...which again, begs the question, why are we doing it 2 diifer ways?
Complex, expensive, and unnecessary. They attempted to use landing gear similar to a B-36, but found it impracticable. I believe saw a picture once of a prototype with standard gear, so they did try it. Basically, the size needed to support its gigantic payload meant that it wouldn't fit under the wings.
@@mkvv5687 Thank you for the reply. Even with zero data considered, aside from what our eyes see at the airports or videos from airports, one can't really argue at all with the "unnecessary" part, which likely makes everything else you've said on point as well. TYVM internet stranger..
@@DonnieBrassYeah. Let the airliners deal with the crosswinds.
I see the spin, and just start reciting "Power idle, Ailerons neutral..."
BUFFs don't rotate, they levitate
Looks like the student declined to try a spin.
I assume it’s one of those: “Let me show you instructors”. The worst kind.
Spins haven't been part of private pilot training for a very long time. Now they focus on recognizing the onset of a stall, staying coordinated, and recovering. I never got to see a real spin until I took some aerobatic lessons.
@@johnbecker1996 it’s been 40 yrs, but when I was learning in PA 28’s, I think spins were placarded.
@@johnbecker1996 spins haven’t been part in the USA only. Anywhere else in the world, it is still a requirement for the private pilots license. I don’t know where this video was taken.
@@MarkSmith-js2pu placarded for what? No spins? Spins only at a certain weight?
Does anyone know if there has been an instance where the landing gear started or did retract while on the ground?
Usually the gear handle has an interlock so you can’t retract the gear on the ground. I do recall the story of a Saab 340 being written off because some cocky pilot retracted the gear on the ground and damaged the aircraft.
@@EdOeunaI believe aircraft have Weight on Wheels sensors to stop inadvertent gear retraction when on the ground.
@@EdOeuna : Thanks for replying.
The B-52 must leave a very large carbon footprint 🤔🙂
As well as being able to leave a very very large carbonized footprint.
seeing the PFD go out from that spin seems like a terrible design if your IMC and that happen you would have no idea of what is going on
You shouldn’t get into a spin while IMC.

@@lennylennington I certainly do. I knew my comment was a ridiculous joke. You didn't.

🤣 right, far less complicated /s
Why not just apply full braking to the left wheels, forcing the aircraft to spin 180 degrees, then apply full forward thrust to slow down?
