- Since the last time I uploaded a video about cleaning and lubing your chain much has changed in my motorcycling life. New bike, new stuff, so I decided to do an updated video on how to clean and lube a chain and how easy it can be with the right tools. Hope you enjoy the video and comments, questions, and anything else can go below. Thanks for watching guys and ride safe.
I love these figure it out as you make a tutorial vids.
For applying lube after cleaning: Spray lube on a toothbrush instead of directly on the chain and spin tire. Less overspray and it spreads easier. Plus getting the back of the chain in a pain in the ass so the toothbrush helps reach back there. Just spray the toothbrush, apply to spinning chain, repeat till saturated on all sides. Don't hurt to hit the sprockets while your down their ;)
Mongoose Riding or getting your wheel spinning using your engine right after lubing (around the parking lot suffices) will make even better than using the brush: centrifugal force will make sure all the lube gets in all the spots (sproket included) and all the excess gets "thrown away"

I hear ya man. That's what I do. Start the bike on a paddock stand, let it warm up, 1st gear then spray while it's moving with a wax based lube... but on the tooth brush. Otherwise (depending on the bike) it gets all over the rim. I try to keep my fingers away from a moving chain I stop the bike and do the rim side of the chain one section at a time. Always comes out perfect.
Mongoose Sounds pretty effective, might give it a try next time!
+Mongoose please avoid telling people to put it in first gear while lubing their chain.. While its perfectly do-able, imagine some not-so-attentive individual getting their finger demolished in the sprocket as first gear continues to roll the chain.
Roll the chain with the bike off and by spinning the tire by hand.

True, although I did emphasize keeping fingers away from the moving parts.
You mate the Pit Bull stand to a couple of pegs on the bike. Do those pegs come with the stand, and then you install them on the bike?
I never had that dripping stuff till i started using this synthetic chain guard crystal clear stuff. I normally use chain wax and the chain stay nice and clean without anything dripping. So I would say the stuff you're using and the stuff Im using at the moment sucks lol. Im going back to chain waxing. Just wish they had some clear wax instead of the goldish color wax.
i took my front sproket cover off located behind tbe coolant reservoir then cleaned chain, bot sprocket and top chain guard, all âfter drove for ten minutes,, then wiped everything b4 lube i have 03 r6 se
Will cleaning the chain in acid after removing it cause any harm to the engine ? Like dipping it in acid and then soaking it in water then lubing it. It will look crystal clear. Is it dangerous ?
easier to do it on the back where the sprocket is plus if you get a baby new tooth brush it gets all the nasty in the middle out. all you do is soak the brush in hot soapy water an you can reuse it.
@CMBDIA I think he meant to say degrease and clean it every 2000 miles
I Ride mine everyday and lube my chain every 500 miles, and clean it every other time i wash my bike, which is every 3 to 4 weeks
Very cool tutorial man, god i love your bike lol....i should ask her to run away with me hahaha
Not on the topic of the video, but your left foot peg is bent the exact same as mine. Mine came like that when I bought it and it seems to be from a hairline crack. Did yours come that way to?
you should NEVER EVER use degreaser on an O-ring chain, it destroys the O-rings. Use WD-40 or just plain kerosene to clean the chain. Never Gas or diesel fuel.
How long did it take you to clean your chain and lube it back up? Took me about 45minutes and a whole spray can of degreaser to do it without the pitstand..
every 2000 miles? I do it every 500. Anybody else follow a different schedule? I ride mine everyday.
hey, wow u spinned the back wheel without almost any effort, should it be that easy to turn?
gj chasein,u can put more video about r6 engine repair or some things like that ?:)
are their parts that cover the chain so it doesnt get dirty when u ride?
Was this in Franklin Street apartments? lol I can hear the Caltrain
You're going to destroy the O-rings on the chain and ruin it in acid.
That's not his current women! Very interesting!
you can spin the tire with your foot..i dont have a girl fren
I know it has its down side, but I sure like my shaft drive!
ya boy thats how you start a video with some baby i like it!
@BlackFlag94 Every time iv cleaned and lubed a chain I made a video so I havent just gone out there, cleaned and lubed it and be done but if I was to guess I would say no longer than 5-10 min whole job.
thumbs up for "I have another video...here..." at 0:46!
I having problems getting the bike on the pit stand
has the r6 been dropped? ur peg looks a bit bent
very helpful going to lube my chain this week
What key ring/ribbon is that on your key?
can use diesel fuel to clean the chain
YOU HAVE A BAD ASS R6 LOL ... I SUBCRIBED
Otherwise it looks like lubing the junk.
She can help me with my chain tonight.
don't u guys have S100 back there? :)
My mechanic suggested lubing every 300-ish Km and cleaning + relubing every 900-ish so basically once in 3 lubes is suggested to clean aswell.
Better clean and relube a bit more often than fewer
Good informative video, quick and to the point.
But my question is while your cleaning the chain, the sprocket is still a little dirty.. Should you take the rag and try to clean the sprocket as well?
Great vid, that reminds me i should probably clean and lube my chain sometime soon. And those stands are great. They helped me out big time when i changed the oil in my bike the other weekend.
u can go faster babe;)
@chasein3d
Deffinately need to get me one of those grunge brushes !!! Will be alot easier with my SV once I get the cotton reel spools so i can use the paddock stand as well. Great vid, best chain cleaning I've seen. Will have to check Darkflight Vlogs to see if he's done one as well :P
Many thanks for the video, just got my first bike and followed your guide and my chain is sweet now.
