  • “In track and field, most people never get a chance to win a gold medal, world championships, and whatnot. I was able to break the world record on four different occasions, which is a very high number for a running event - hardly anyone does that.”
Edwin Moses is an American former track and field athlete who primarily participated in 400m hurdles. From the beginning of his hurdling career to his retirement in 1988, Moses was considered one of the most successful hurdlers.
Between 1977 and 1987, Moses won 122 consecutive races, set four world records, won 2 Olympic gold medals, participated in the 1976, 1984, and 1988 Summer Olympics, and went undefeated for exactly 9 years, 9 months, and 9 days, from 20th August ’77 to 4th June ’87.
In 2000, he was elected as the Chairman of the Laureus World Sports Academy, and has been involved in a number of Laureus Sport for Good events and activities.
‘History Makers’ is a series following some of the incredible athletes who have shaped the course of history in sport and have overcome great challenges to win.
