170 cm is 5’7”, not 5’5” and 182 cm is 5’11 1/2” not 5’9”. I think when Brew did the calculations, he rounded down to 5.5 feet and 5.9 feet rather than converting to inches. Also 175 cm is 5’9”: not 5’6”. While 5’3 is 160 cm, 162 cm is 5’4”, 5’7 is 170 cm, not 175 cm. Basically every single time Brew calculated the conversion from cm to inches, he got the calculations wrong (I believe that all of these studies used the metric system for measuring height).

Being taller and larger frame might have an advantage in hand-to-hand combat, but there are other scenarios where it is a clear disadvantage. I had the epiphany when traveling in India that smaller body sizes there were an evolutionary survival trait, to cope historically with food shortages and risk of starvation. A larger body size would need a greater amount of food to nourish and sustain it. So smaller body size is an advantage in trying to survive when food supply is limited.

I am 6'4 and when I tried martial arts, I actually struggled with opponents who are shorter, as they are more balanced and can generate a lot of power due to it. Even when I may be stronger than them in absolute numbers and have more range, I am easier to take down and generating strenght from the floor to my fist is harder

Both the world longevity record holder (Jeanne Calment, age 122) and the American record holder (Sarah Knauss, age 119) were under 5 feet tall, so being very short (but not quite a dwarf) is definitely an advantage to living an extremely long life. Japan and parts of Italy are known for having large centenarian (age 100+) populations, and these people tend to be shorter than Americans on average. I'm a 5'8" (1.72m) American man, certainly below average height, yet I would imagine that most of the oldest men on record were shorter than me.

This issue was integral to my masters thesis, so I really enjoyed the presentation. It's especially important to pick your population carefully for studies of height and longevity. Your need a homogeneous group. You wouldn't want to compare Mayans (generally shorter people) to Maasai (some of the tallest on the world). Also, you have to be careful with cross sectional data that lumps people from different generations. Conditions during childhood affect ultimate adult height, so people who lived through war, famine, or a high infectious disease environment during their growing years shouldn't be compared to people who grew up in relative luxury. The Korean studies should be good ones.

The bigger ones living short lives also applied to rabbits. I had three who were a mix of Flemish giant and French lop (both giant rabbits) and the average lifespan for those giants is only about 4-6 years, because rabbits' bodies are not build for that size and it especially causes problems with the joints

As you mentioned, being taller correlates with shorter lifespans. Cardiovascular diseases typically manifest in the late 40-50s onwards. So it is possible that taller people are simply dying at a faster "speed" than the progression of cardiac illnesses - i.e. if they lived much longer, they MIGHT have developed heart diseases at a much higher rate. Since living longer increases your risk of a cardiovascular disease, we cannot simply attribute the higher rates of CVD in shorter people to their being short. To really understand if it's actually being shorter that predisposes them, we need to conduct a study by controlling for the lifespans of the participants - we specifically select taller people who live as long as shorter ones, and check if they have lower rates of CVD. If they still do, CVD is really associated with height. If they don't, what you mentioned was simply an artifact.

The sources that check average life expectancy of men per height could be skewed due to unrelated reasons:
Tall Basketball players could be dying more often due to over-exhausting effects that are possibly contributed to them, cause they are likely to play more often than their shorter counterparts
Military men could be dying more often because, well, warfare favors shorter men. Bigger men are bigger targets, require more nurishment, and are overall less fit for military equipment/environment (i.e. foxholes, LMGs, cramped vehicles)

I dunno about that. Contrary to popular opinion people do not shrink that much in old age. When you look around very few people are old and tall. Most are rather short. I do know tall old people, there are always exceptions. But just from looking around it appears short people could be healithier and live longer due to less strain on the body.

Maybe I missed it, but one of the things not mentioned or factored in is the average height of different ethnicities/races. The Korean population, for example, are shorter on average when compared to other populations. Further, there's other factors that get overlooked like genetic pre-disposition for longer life. Personal experience: people in my family are tall, and we also tend to live pretty long (usually between 85-95 years old).
