- LSU Baseball and Wake Forest Baseball played in the winners bracket in the 2023 College World Series. The winner would advance to the bracket final, and need only 1 win in 2 chances to advance to the College World Series Finals, while the loser would play Tennessee in an elimination game on Tuesday night, needing 3 consecutive wins to advance.

Ump was the real star of this game, two top teams going against eachother but he found his way to assert himself early and make a difference by being consistently inconsistent all game long!
He did the samething when LSU beat Vols. He was fucking awful and tigers benefited from it

Horrible home plate umpire, for both sides… that guy is a disgrace.
he was so inconsistent starting in sixth. in first five he called lots of stikes way off the plate.

@@cane870 oh i agree, but he was consistently bad for both teams. he was calling strike well off the plate for both teams, it was in the sixth or seventh all of a sudden nothing was a strike for LSU pitchers, but still called same off the plate strikes for WF

Best college World Series maybe of all time. Every team is just so good. I don’t have a dog in the fight but would love to see this match up again.
Unfortunately the umpire was terrible all around, but hats off to Wake. They played very well. Hope the Tigers get to play them again in a few days.

He was awful. It's amazing how bad the quality of umps are in the CWS. The umps have been awful most of the games with their strike zones. Tonight's was the worst though because he changed it multiple times throughout the game. It was impossible to know what was a strike and what was a ball.
@@Rymann_23 Exactly what I'm saying. Only 4 losses on the season and hes already taken down LSU once this year. And without skenes pitching LSU is gonna have a challenge ahead of them.

@@patrickmccorkell2090not even close. At the least the guy in the LSU/UT game was consistent and kept the same strike zone for both teams all game. This guys zone was worse and he changed it up multiple times. He straight up gifted Wake bases loaded in the 6th

They put the absolute worst ump in Omaha on the game between the only #1 teams this year. Ridiculous.

@@benddover4300 it’s not about who won or lost. Both teams had the same umpire and the better team won. Shitty umpiring makes it not only hard to watch but hard to settle into anything for both teams whether it’s pitch selection, plate approach, etc. You clearly didn’t play baseball if you don’t understand that.
Try it sometime, it's not as easy, or as cut and dried as you think it is, but a blind man can criticise.
It was funny the guy in the outfield just poped the beach ball instead of throwing it back because he they would just throw it back!😂

Base running advice for all young players out there and coaches of young players... LSU runner on 3rd in the 8th made two critical mistakes that kept him from scoring. One, he looked back too much trying to track the ground ball. He needs to go as hard as possible once he sees it's a ground ball. If he does that, he scores. Doesn't matter if the 3rd baseman fields it or not. I can only assume that the coaches communicated that he's going home on a grounder. Second mistake is his slide. The catcher sets up on the inside of the baseline. Runner has a chance to see this and what does he do? He does not choose to go to the right of the catcher and his slide is about as panic-filled and unpracticed as you could imagine for a player in the CWS. He made it possible for the catcher to tag him out. He does either one of those two things better and he scores. Props to the LSU batter putting a well hit ball into play and the Wake 3rd baseman's defensive play... but that should have been an LSU run. Not a supporter of either team, just heard about this play.
The mistake he made was running home period. Nobody was out. Stay there make him make a clean throw to first. Now you have runners on 2&3 with one out. Running there was a mistake.
LSU fans that knocked on Floyd with multiple walks in 6th are clueless. Johnson dropped the ball and let his pitch count get up until he lost command. WF has extreme patience at the plate.

Felt bad for both teams. Have never seen a more inconsistent performance by a plate umpire, but then I've only played and watched baseball for 75 years.

He gave em 5 awesome shut out innings. I dont know why the didn’t pull him or at least have someone warming up. They wait until the bases are loaded and wake has momentum.

As a Tiger fan this one hurt. LSU had it's chances but missed them. Not scoring Morgan from 3rd and waiting way too long to pull Floyd killed them. The pitching depth isn't set up to win 3 games in the next 3 days. If we could somehow get to Thursday we could throw Skenes, but if we get by Tennessee tomorrow I have no idea who the heck we throw on Wednesday. I guess maybe Blake Money which would be terrifying against Wake's lineup. I think LSU will need to score at least 6 runs tomorrow against Tennessee to have a chance.
I really hope they pull out the run and make it to wed, I really want to see the rematch and hope we got the pitching to force a game 3 with them. Wake is probably the best team in the tourney but looked mortal yesterday, we had our chances. goddamnt. not even totally the refs fault, wake are just good and will punish ya if you miss open door opportunities like we had there. One thing I'll say tho is that I wish the umps would stop trying to hog the spotlight with these reviews every 5 seconds (the challenges rule needs work, its too easy to stop momentum in your favor with this shit). I was at the ORU - Gators game and it was torture. if it wasnt fathers day and a beautiful day at the ball park I wouldnt have been happy sitting through all that shit.

I commented in the previous video but i have to here as well...that umpire needs to never be seen in a meaningful college game ever again. It was the 3rd inning and still nobody knew what the zone was. Both hitters and pitchers were confused/upset, the announcers were essentially laughing at it, just horrible. Seriously. It's the CWS and they put a clown behind home plate. Sad

Tre Morgan should never have been staring back at the ball. Either go all out 100% trying to score, or don’t test it and just get back to third. Can’t be halfway in that spot
He should never have been going in the first place. If the third baseman didn’t double clutch, that guy was going to be out by a mile. Head was up his rear end. With a ball hit directly to the third baseman who was playing in there is no way you can try to take home on that play. Damn man.

Yea the umpire was bad but he’s not the reason we lost. How many runners did we leave in scoring position? Crews didn’t do anything, Jobert and Thompson shit the bed. Belloso? Non nonexistent. The pitching was one of our only bright spots tonight. We didn’t play like the Tigers tonight and the results reflect just that.

I was kind of hoping to see a Florida/LSU final series, but honestly Wake might be better than LSU. I still don't think people give them enough credit coming from the ACC and not really being a blue-blood program. They're as solid as they come though.

ESPN strike and ball count map shows balls in the same area, called strikes innings 1-5, then called balls in the 6th inning where LSU walked 3 batters, tied the game. Very odd that the zone shrunk by 40% in the 6th inning, rather very sad and obvious. The proof is on ESPN’s game stats.

Ump was terrible last night, not a great excuse but obvious he was favoring Wake for innings 3-7 after LSU catcher pissed him off. Ump needs to call the same zone all game for both sides, no matter what. He was all over the place and basically gave Wake bases loaded no outs. Wake is as tough as they come, regardless of a bad ump or not. LSU had multiple chances to put the game away but couldnt get it done. Hats off to Wake pitching, kept the best hitters in the country to a few base hits and no homers. We'll see if LSU pitching staff can survive the losers bracket

he didn't lose command, the ump changed what he had been calling a strike for first five innings. he had just come off an inning where he struck out the side, then walked first three in the next inning throwing same exact pitches.

LSU: walks bases loaded no outs and hangs 2 breaking balls in 0-2 and 1-2 counts and horrible slide that could have been a run. Have to be perfect to beat great teams.

Two things for me… 1. The two favored teams to advance in the tournament and the ump behind the plate was absolutely atrocious. 2. Through the first 6 innings, how do the Wake Forest hitters not adjust to the two strike fastball. I watched at least 8 guys go down from that.
The ump was pretty bad at his calls that might be one reason. But also LSU's pitcher was throwing some darts also. Wakes offense has definitely been stagnant so far in the CWS. Idk if it's the competition is better or bad hitting by wake but they've done enough to win so far. But the offense is gonna have to wake up at some point there pitching won't be able to bail them out every game.
I'm a wake fan too btw.

Neither batter in the bottom of the 8th could catch up to Hurd's fastball and he throws sliders and both get hits. You have to man up and challenge them there.
LSU coaching lost that game for them. Kept a pitcher in way too long and had a run on contact with nobody out with the go ahead run on third.

Angel Campos and Casey Moser are two of the worst umpires i’ve seen in college baseball, maybe ever. No wonder why they got fired from the MLB. Terrible calls for both Wake Forest and LSU, and the bottom of the 6th was evidence.
