You know, I was actually thinking about his story for months... Then one day I thought : What if his father objective was to make him the toughest person he could be. Like... He wanted say to him "Look, son, no matter how hard you work, there will always be people who will treat you like shit". I mean, chances are slim, his father was probably a jerk. But if his objective was to raise a resilient kid, he succeeded. As Thomas said, all he knew was work

I can't believe this guy described my early life with an alternate ending... I found my mentor when my son was born, my son. I raised him by myself and tried to instill all the values I needed and he became incredible! I watch him and try to emulate him. However, I still see myself as a failure no matter how much I tell myself differently. Im 50 and I want better for me. This guy is awesome!

When I saw this on Facebook a while back, most of the comments were about how he should feel lucky his father taught him such a great work ethic. No consideration to the fact that his work ethic was solely a cry for his father's love. The man had time to sit in the car but couldn't watch the hockey games. That tells you everything you need to know about how his dad saw his son.

The things I had to deal with at such a young age make me want to hug my daughter so tight. I love that both my kids have spirit and have the confidence to just be themselves. At their age I was frightened of my own shadow and still haven't found my peace but seeing this has inspired me to keep going. Making sure my children grow up knowing they're loved, wanted and supported is a start.

I think one of the biggest lessons any father hopes to teach his son is the importance and reward of hard work and how far it can take you. But do so in an uplifting manner. Sometimes there is a need for being stern, but it shouldn't overshadow encouragement. Belitting, degrading insults do absolutely nothing to "toughen up" kids from a young age, if anything it breeds resentment and anger which is counterproductive. Give discipline where it is needed, but always remind your son that he is loved.

At some point in grad school, I had a professor talk about how the way we label negative behaviors will dictate how we view ourselves forever. One of the examples they used was about a child who takes something that doesn't belong to them. Instead of them developing the understanding of "I am a person who has stolen," they are taught to believe "I am a thief."
Society teaches the person to label themselves with a permanent stamp. That then lingers as a factual belief in their minds, so it will be used to excuse their future behaviors. "I'm so sorry I stole again, it's who I am."
Rock's story here is a perfect illustration of what that state of mind can do, but it's also proof that beliefs can be un-taught with the right support. Everyone should have at least ONE PERSON - friend, family member, counselor, doctor - whom they can turn to for support and feel is on their side. If you dont know who that person is for you, start sharing your story with people and see who responds; it only takes one good support to make all the difference.

He was a high ranked manager for AC Delco in the world HQ in Flint, MI and very well paid. When I made partner at a packaging firm in 2010, I out-earned him for the first time. Now I own my own packaging company, am working on real estate investments, writing, and more. We have taken our kids on trips to the Caribbean, owned beautiful homes in beautiful places, boats, bikes and all the things that money can buy. More importantly, we have been there for our kids and have a happy marriage as an example of what one looks like.

My Father was a very broken man. He was the toughest man I've ever known. He got that way; because his life was so hard. He had epilepsy when it was considered a mental disorder. He was sent to a hospital for the mentally insane on several occasions as a child. He was kicked out of school because of his seizures, yet was an amazing student. Had a sharp mind even into his final days. He wasn't able to drive and was never hired for a normal job. He worked odd jobs for anyone he could. For years, the only thing he lived for were my grandparents. Once they passed he had nothing to live for. Going to church and meeting my mother, I believe, saved his life. They had me when my dad was almost 60. He was not good at showing emotion and was very frugal with words of praise. I'd only seen him cry twice.
As he grew closer to his death I'd learned a lot about how little love he'd received in his life. Even though my mother, brother, and I would tell him we loved him, he always had a bit of doubt that we meant it. He almost had the attitude that no one could genuinely love him. He was convinced that he was the reason I grew up with physical issues. I learned all of this from other people; because he never talked about what he'd been through. Towards the end of his life, I told him everything I had felt as a kid. I mentioned my frustrations about our lack of time spent playing together. I told him that I loved him and that it wasn't his fault for my physical conditions. After that conversation, we bonded as Father and Son for the first time in my life. As I said he wasn't emotional, but I knew he loved me. He started to say he loved me first, and expressed his pride in what I've done in my life. Once I learned to understand him better, and expressed it to him, our relationship became so much better. I'm very thankful we were able to become close at the end. I know, not everyone has that opportunity, so I realize I have reason to be grateful. I love him and miss him and Mom so dearly to this day.

The problem with millenials was the fact that they were raised with having a high self-esteem from participation trophies and etc. So now they don't know whats it's like to fail and are completely narsisitic. So again not trying to offend you here, but try to use self confidence from now on because your kinda apart of the problem in our future generation's success.

I'm 24 and none of my parents have ever hit me (except once when she threw a Chancla at me because I was being a hurtful brat), so yes a lot of those neglectful parents had abusive ones but you always can be better than them but that requires work and not a lot of them want to do that.

Lord, can I relate to this. My father committed suicide when I was four, and my mother was a narcissist and clinically depressed. She never once said, "I love you" or "I am proud of you." She was cold, critical, and broken. I thought my dad was in heaven watching over me, and I strove for perfection, trying to be a perfect daughter, ever seeking my mother's love and trying to make my dad proud. When I was 13, she said, "You are nothing and a nobody and no one will ever love you." I will go to my grave hearing those words, never once hearing "I love you." For years, I set about reprogramming my brain. Those who didn't know me probably thought I was the most conceited person in the world, but I felt like the smallest person on the planet. It's amazing the effect that broken parents have on a child. More amazing still is the resilience and strength of character that it can build if that child as an adult can overcome and rise above it. The cycle must be broken.

And if one day I decide to let my family back into my life, they will know my boundaries and they will respect them and I will demand respect from them. Or they will just get cut off, and not just them, anyone who passes my boundaries on purpose is not family/friend nor someone who has your best Interest. Keep sticking up for yourself. Problem I had with my working father no time for me only the money. All you ask for is some validation...but you have to overcome that and believe in yourself whether they support you or not. Only way to take control of your life, you can't live through others. They're too busy living there own lives...live yours!

Thank you for sharing this because we all need a reminder of who we are. Sometimes the people we love the most don't realize how much they hurt us.

Wow, this appeared in my suggested videos and I clicked on it thinking “why not I’m bored”. I have worn labels such as introvert, untalented, unworthy, unimportant, shy, not good enough, and many more. I’ve used these for so long and also used them to perceive myself. I’ve never tried to think of “good” labels. One thing I’ve learned from this video is that we should always focus on our strengths and talents rather than our weaknesses and false identity. This video touched my heart and definitively changed the way I think about myself. Thank you for this wonderful, inspiring, motivational speech. 💛

We all know there’s no other greater joy than having financial freedom and a life free of debts, all thanks to Mr Carlos, cause he made me who I am today through binary trade. He has helped me a lot with his trading strategies which helps me to earn $12,550 weekly with a $1,000 investment. I really appreciate it and can't help but let others know about it because it is so suitable anyone can trade from anywhere and anytime, you can reach mr carlos on IG @carlos_1uptrades His indeed a God sent. now i dont need to be working 9-5.
