Hi Megan, thank you so much for this.
Have you tried Twitter/X? The word limit (140, if you are not a premiere member ) would allow you to focus on a single idea. It may train your brain to be more boundary-wise- it gives you the space to extend a little bit but not too much, in the meantime the 'quote' and the 'reply' functions allow you to link ideas and form multiple universes. Hope this helps! x

My ideas travel A LOT! They usually start out either as post-its (or even scraps of paper or notes in my diary) or ideas in my notes app. I also take screenshots if it's a video or podcast that I need to come back to with pen and paper. Every couple of days I gather and sort out everything and virtual notes get written out and those all land in an idea box or transferred to my work notebook (ideas for posts, reels, etc.). I also have a folder on my Drive for photos and research, and when I am ready to work on a specific idea, the idea and related media gets transferred to a GN notebook. It's a constantly moving entity, but I have made peace with it because it works better than anything else I have ever tried.
On the plus side, my virtual and physical spaces are always organised and fairly free of clutter.

That sounds brilliant! I love the idea of incorporating other media elements to your ideas! I never thought about that.

Megan!!! Hey! I'm only 4 minutes in so I may be back to comment later but I had to say that I do have my writing journal which is where I store all of my ideas and have my brainstorming sessions in but when I'm out and about I will sometimes email myself as well or send myself text messages on my phone of the ideas. Then I also have a voice recording app that most people would probably use for dictation but I only use it to basically word vomit whatever my ideas are or if I'm working through a part in the story I'm stuck on. The recording app can be really useful because you don't have to type anything out, just simply talk it out with yourself while recording and play it back later. Okay that's my top 3 ways of keeping track of ideas. I'll be back lol...

I love the idea of a voice recording and THANK YOU SO MUCH for all your insights. You're the best ❤️🥰 I hope you are keeping well!
Thanks for your continued support, always. You've been my cheerleader from the beginning ❤️😭

@@meganbrush I just realized that TH-cam disappeared my other comment. I came back and left a novel length comment so it's way too much for me to remember lol. Basically to sum it up you're amazing and you inspire me so much. I do know I noted how you are into WWI and my fascination is WWII lol. I am more than happy to keep being your cheerleader because you rock! Take care of yourself Megan! ❤❤

Oooh big fan of this idea! I have a writing wall with all my scenes so maybe I'll just add ideas there too!?

I text myself ideas when I have them on the go. I also have an email set up just for writing so maybe that’s an option if emailing yourself works for you but keeps it separate. A notes app might also work. I then take some time every so often to move over the ideas to a Google doc to keep it all in one place.
    Loved the video!

I use my notes app, and then once a week or whenever I think about it organize them in my drafts or ideas document or notebook, wherever it belongs in my little system lol, and I then delete them from the notes app so I can have a clean list 👍

Ooohhh this is what I'm thinking I'm going to do. Keep emailing myself and then just organize the ideas in my draft as scenes in Scrivener.

(also I cannot not mention that your perfectly stunning bone structure brightened my day) 🥰 FINALLY as a non-writer (ahem), I SAY GO WITH THE FLOWWWWWW and whatever is pulling you creatively is what you should be focusing on (but legit same fears on forgetting ideas) ❤LOVE an inspired Megan

3:15 I use the notes app on my phone whenever I have ideas. I have a note titled "List of random things to potentially use in the future," and I've been actively updating it since around 2016. Since it's saved on the cloud, I can carry it whenever and wherever. I usually don't add more than a brief bullet point, because (in theory) this is an idea that I came up with, and so I shouldn't need to fully write it out because it's already in my mind. The bullet point is just there to jog my memory a bit.
11:37 That's an understandable fear to have. But yeah, I agree that you should just keep going. I think that so long as we continue to live and experience things, we'll never really run out of ideas. And I'm very much a proponent of intuitive/instinctual writing schedules. If that's what you want to write, then that's what you want to write.
13:30 Actually, I've been thinking of doing something similar. It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. I think that anything will work so long as it's not tied down to one hard drive. If it's backed up in the cloud (and even better if it's editable from any device) then there's very few ways that you can go wrong with it. The best app is the one that you find to be the most sustainable and easy to use based on your needs.

    Great vlog!!!!
I'm trying to write these two,
1.Sea of fate book three the fate of the Two Suns, which is the prequel about the two japanese siblings in the first book that helped out the main character.
2.The Shogun's Daughter. It got in inspired by the Ghost of tsushima game but the main character is female and becomes a female samurai girl, I'm still in research of old Japan stuff, even got some books from the libraru (stranger in Shogun's city and shadow of the fox)
What's your thoughts on first pov (point of view) books? Just curious seeing how I'm wondering if I should write my fallen book in first pov instead of the usual way that a lot of books get written by nowadays.

    • @meganbrush
      @meganbrush  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Those projects sound amazing! I love books that incorporate history🥰.
I love first POV! I don't have a preferred POV to read (or write). I just go with whatever feels right for the project and the characters. One of my books is third person limited with multiple POVs (fantasy) and the other that I just finished last year is first person POV (fiction/horror).
From a publishing perspective, I've learned that first person POV is usually seen as more commercial and so some agents and editors have a preference for certain genres to be in first person POV (YA/Fantasy/Romance.) HOWEVER, this is not a hard rule at all and you can find so many successfully published books that aren't first person in those genres.
The TL/DR is write whatever feels right to you. If something isn't working, maybe try writing a scene or two in another POV.
Thanks so much for watching and commenting 💜
