I was really impressed by the courage, technique, speed, and discipline of the young Vietnam boys last match! Also, they reminded me of the Japanese World Cup team in 2002 led by Philippe Troussier. Many Japanese underestimated ASEAN football, but it was of a quality and intensity comparable to the European and South American powerhouses that Japan has played recently. As a Viet, i was expecting Japan to bulldoze us with a 10-0, but the results of this match really surprised me. We scored two goals against the strongest Asian football team, that on its own is a big achievement. We lost, but we lost against the best 💪
The first header was a fluke bro, and the second goal was a set piece, which was decent. But Vietnam's open play is still trash, especially your midfield, holding the line so horribly that allow the Japanese players to dance around effortlessly. Long way to go.
Rejoicing in defeat and rewarding female football players who were soundly defeated in the Women's World Cup last year are things that are probably unique to Vietnam and unheard-of in anywhere else in the world. You still lost - end of the story. The two goals they scored were largely the result of luck rather than skills.
Rather than luck the Japanese defence just looked sloppy to allow both of goals in. The first leaving the man completely free for a impressive finish and the second with both the defence doing a poor job dealing with the ball swinging in on the far side and the keeper failing to get the ball out of danger when it came to him. Not sure either of those are due to luck but rather poor play from the Japanese and Vietnam capitalising on that very well, give credit when it is due.

A crazy and unbelievable opening match in Group D of this year's Asian Cup between Japan and Vietnam 😎. We had a reasonable match that surprised Japan in the first half with a missed lead Dinh Bac and Tuan Hai won, but Japan showed that they really have a lot of stars in the squad and also a scary playing style when they came back in just 5 minutes at the end of the first half and showed off their playing style. Certainly and proactively slowed down the match speed in the second half and then ended the match with a goal in the 85th minute to win 4-2 against Vietnam. But nonetheless, this was a great and worthy game.The respect of the troussier teachers and students against the extremely strong opponent Japan 😊
As a Japanese, I was astonished by the quality of Vietnam. Technical and intense. Nguyen Dinh Bac was phenomenal, and Phan Tuấn Tài was like prime Daley Blind! Hope both team qualifies to the knock-outs.

I found surprisingly how different Vietnam and Thailand's approaches to Japan given both are the strongest teams in ASEAN and the only two that can compete in Asian level. Thailand is highly aggressive, skilful but usually risky and often insecure; whereas Vietnam is cautious and aims to be solid rather than pour everything up. Yet this explains why Japan often scores a lot of goals on Thailand, but struggles to deal the same with Vietnam though. Being Spanish myself (with Filipino ancestry) I realised just how close our football is to Thailand. The Thais love our philosophy. But without necessary development it will be regressive. Thailand's situation explains all of that.

This Vietnam team is something else. I wonder their past has something to do with such big balls. Dude fought with some of the most powerful empires and carried this big ball as well. As a Viet, i was expecting Japan to bulldoze us with a 10-0, but the results of this match really surprised me. We scored two goals against the strongest Asian football team, that on its own is a big achievement. We lost, but we lost against the best 💪
The first header was a fluke bro, and the second goal was a set piece, which was decent. But Vietnam's open play is still trash, especially your midfield, holding the line so horribly that allow the Japanese players to dance around effortlessly. Long way to go.
Rejoicing in defeat and rewarding female football players who were soundly defeated in the Women's World Cup last year are things that are probably unique to Vietnam and unheard-of in anywhere else in the world. You still lost - end of the story. The two goals they scored were largely the result of luck rather than skills.
Rather than luck the Japanese defence just looked sloppy to allow both of goals in. The first leaving the man completely free for a impressive finish and the second with both the defence doing a poor job dealing with the ball swinging in on the far side and the keeper failing to get the ball out of danger when it came to him. Not sure either of those are due to luck but rather poor play from the Japanese and Vietnam capitalising on that very well, give credit when it is due.
I'm shocked my self that Vietnam was able to score 2 goals, let alone 1 against Japan. Impressive effort by Vietnam. 👏🏾

A crazy and unbelievable opening match in Group D of this year's Asian Cup between Japan and Vietnam 😎. We had a reasonable match that surprised Japan in the first half with a missed lead Dinh Bac and Tuan Hai won, but Japan showed that they really have a lot of stars in the squad and also a scary playing style when they came back in just 5 minutes at the end of the first half and showed off their playing style. Certainly and proactively slowed down the match speed in the second half and then ended the match with a goal in the 85th minute to win 4-2 against Vietnam. I found surprisingly how different Vietnam and Thailand's approaches to Japan given both are the strongest teams in ASEAN and the only two that can compete in Asian level. Thailand is highly aggressive, skilful but usually risky and often insecure; whereas Vietnam is cautious and aims to be solid rather than pour everything up. Yet this explains why Japan often scores a lot of goals on Thailand, but struggles to deal the same with Vietnam though.
Being Spanish myself (with Filipino ancestry) I realised just how close our football is to Thailand. The Thais love our philosophy. But without necessary development it will be regressive. Thailand's situation explains all of that.
