I can accept forgiveness from the one who forgives. I can offer it to my fellowman. I cannot give it to myself. I am an addict. to forgive myself sounds like what we call in 12 step circles, "an inside job". Forgiving, and subsequently healing, comes in community. If I can forgive myself, it requires no one....isolation....this is addiction at its core, the being enamored with the self, being consumed with the self, being beguiled by the self....the self, the self, the self, the self....enough of that. It never worked, no matter what it was presented as. As an addict, I lived on the throne of my soul, where I thought I could forgive myself. How arrogant. How foolish. How deadly. It sounds good, but it's a ruse. Only God can forgive. Forgiving me keep my in charge. Amen.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. I deeply respect your insight and understand that self-forgiveness can be complex, especially within the context of addiction and spiritual beliefs. Community support and guidance are crucial, and this meditation is meant to complement, not replace, the broader journey of healing. Each person’s path is unique, and what resonates can vary. Your thoughts contribute greatly to the conversation. Thank you for your openness.
