A sequel, INDEPENDENCE DAY RESURGENCE was released in 2016, but it was not well received by critics or fans. It was a moderate success at the box office, $390 million dollars against a $150 million dollar budget.

Hope I didn't make you uncomfortable. This is one of the best popcorn movies and one of the best theater experiences I've ever had. It's also very rewatchable. So glad you got around to it. A few more familiar faces for you: Bill Pullman (the President) was the dad in Casper & Mary McDonnell (the First Lady) was Jill’s mom in Scream 4.
Mary McDonell also appeared as the president in Battlestar Galactica and in Dances With Wolves.
One of the best quotes i heard about this movie was, "we should beam Independence Day into space and say it was a true story, that way no aliens start shit" lol

He also directed the sequel, which is less impressive. 🔸 The actor who played 'General Grey' was Robert Loggia. Be sure to catch him in PSYCHO II (1983). First Lady 'Marilyn Whitmore' was played by Mary McDonnell. Seeing her in DANCES WITH WOLVES (1990) is a must. Funny pilot 'Jimmy' was portrayed by jazz musician Harry Connick, Jr. See him in LITTLE MAN TATE (1991) if you can. And the great Harvey Fierstein was 'Marty'. He had a small but notable role in MRS. DOUBTFIRE (1993) but see him shine in TORCH SONG TRILOGY (1988) or HAIRSPRAY LIVE (2016).
Looking big Matty, good stuff! Hope you had a happy Independence Day. Love this movie. Surprisingly stacked cast. The speech before take off always gets me hype and makes me want to go fight the aliens myself.
The scene where the presidents daughter asks "is mommy sleeping now?" Will ALWAYS make me cry.
Great performances by Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum with great chemistry. This movie still holds up IMO and is a must watch every July 4th

RIP for the late James Rebhorn, who appears here as the Defense Secretary. Great character actor. Interestingly, in the (rather obscure) film My Fellow Americans, he would also play a (former!) Defense Secretary. Like your reaction videos, keep 'em coming!
Steven Hiller role was originally offered to Ethan Hawke but he turned it down as he thought the script was terrible.

This is my 3rd reaction to this movie in 4 days and read comments, etc. This is THE first time I’ve read this factoid, and that’s also after watching this movie for almost 30 years.

Absolutely criminal that Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum didn't get to work together more. The chemistry they had was glorious.
I watched this as a kid (maybe 10) and the climax had me so hyped and on the edge of my seat. I thought I was home alone so I was really getting into cheering and shouting at the screen. At the part where they are racing to escape the mothership, the tension got to me and I let out a string of the worst curses I knew. That's when I heard my dad say from the other room "hey now, none of that." I was so embarrassed lol. Just a solid popcorn movie.
I live in downtown DC so any kind of major event goes down, terrestrial or extraterrestrial, I'm basically screwed. Not going to lie, I think about that often.

Just to let you know, being in the middle of nowhere is one of the last places you want to be when the aliens come. If they've done their homework, like these aliens did, the first places you hit are comms and leadership. Satellites and capitals. Then population centers. Then the best chance to defend. What's our best weapon? Nukes. Where are the missile silos located? The Dakotas, Nebraska etc...the middle of nowhere.
Something I wonder and kinda pisses me off is this. The irrefutiable proof that aliens exist in this movie is literally above there heads and they are still giving Russel shit that he was abducted.

You should watch Outbreak and Contagion. Both very good movies I’ve recently been obsessed with. Another good one is Buried Alive.
Defcon is from 5 to 1, 1 means nuclear war and 5 is peacetime with no threat. Different defensive actions are done at different watch levels. Defcon 3 means bombers must remain capable of takeoff within 15 minutes in terms of nuclear attack ability

If you want a good summer blockbuster with some patriotism, you gotta watch Pearl Harbor. One of my favorite movies of all time. Apollo 13 is another good one. I once heard an Aussie reactor say that watching it, he felt hella american patriotism lol.

He’s even in The Equalizer series! I first saw him in Ruthless People and The Accidental Tourist. Then came Sleepless in Seattle, Spaceballs, A League of Their Own, While You Were Sleeping and so much more! He’s a very talented actor.
