      I can't even imagine. I had an stalker back in the day. I'm a guy and he was also male. I was seeing that person literally every single day, everywhere. At the stores when I was doing basic groceries, and even at my uni during the lectures (Lectures are free in my country so anyone can get in and listen, even if you are not a student). When I seen him next to home, I just called the Police, and then it stopped. I even got few weird emails back in the day when I was streaming and doing yt vids a bit but idk if those things were connected. Anyway, that was very light case of stalking and I can't even imagine how bad it can be for your when you get very "invested" stalker. One is very bad, group of them would be the reason to spend all of your savings on the private security team. Police can't help you until they do anything to you, which is awful >.

    I replayed The Closing Shift recently so I believe this game takes place after. Since the two girls Mayumi and Mari were a part of the high school girls you had to serve, now their in college I suppose. Especially since they made fun of Mayumi's weight in that game too girl can't catch a break
    Edit: Another detail is that the drunk guy in the cafe is saying how much he misses "Hassaku" I looked up a play through of The Closing Shift and that was the name of the investigator who dies and the police never found his body. Kinda sad that his buddy doesn't know what happened to him.

    i think one reason why her antivirus doesn't pick up anything is because it probably installed remote access software. remote access software is completely legal and "not" considered dangerous, and is often used for i.t. purposes. the issue is that scammers often also use it in order to gain access to a victim's computer (i.e. those call center scams).

      personally i read chilla's work as not so much games first but more interactive narratives that utilize the hallmarks of video games to make the ideas more digestible. theyre always these intentionally off-kilter yet also apparently highly faithful depictions of every day life in japanese cities that all revolve around paranoia, social anxiety, and distrust, often masked or bandaged by a very thin veneer of social kayfabe. those are ideas that resonate with a lot of people online, and more and more people offline as well, this sort of concept of social mores and expectations distantly policing a conversation, causing people to revert back to a normalcy that results from a lack of explicitly defined tension, instead of being able to actually deal with the source of the anxiety.
      i mean thats kind of how tension is built in horror, but there's also a reason why its such an omnipresent thing for chilla's work.

Point in case here is Asuka calling MC a noob right after her whole stalker ordeal, or Asuka being a typical horror character throughout the story, or the janky af walking animations that are still being used. Still this is one of their better games, it had some tense moments and the plot was intriguing enough. I just don't think their games are "deep" or their "commentary" is anything deeper than your average Dora the Explorer episode.

  • @Exotac
    @Exotac ปีที่แล้ว +350

    There's a degree of hilarity that it REALLY ended up being all of them being in on it. Like, as Manly pointed out, Chilla likes to often go with the most obvious solution being the reality. Like when the dude stole the trashbag at the start, I knew right away that was a red haring because Chilla always likes to shove one or two random creeps in just to put you on edge. But still, this is the first time where it really ended up being a literal conspiracy against you. The notion is so out there. that from the offset you're like "Haha what if they're all in on it, but no way that would be ridiculous." And then, it really was just that ridiculous.
    I'm finding I enjoy Chilla's "not supernatural" offerings more and more. They're good at making spooky unnerving ghost games, but they're REALLY good at making stories just realistic enough to feel like they could be based on an actual happening, and that makes them so much worse/better.

      I know in the US "community service" kind of has the implication that you're being punished but that's not necessarily the case. For example: you can actually volunteer for community service if you're just invested in your local community. Some employers even encourage and reward their employees to preform community service in their down time.
      The point of community service is to serve your community after all. The point behind assigning it as a punishment for some infraction is as a form of restorative justice to either clean up a mess that you yourself made, as a form of -slavery- paying the community back by preforming free labor, or as a way of forcing a person (who may be inclined towards crime) to connect with their local community and thus be less inclined to harm that community in the future.
      I know a lot of people think of punishment when they hear "community service" so I think a lot of people just call it "volunteer work" when its not compulsory to avoid the misplaced stigma associated with the term "community service". For non-native English speakers and/or non-Americans, I'm not surprised the distinction got lost in translation.
      anyway, have a 🍪 for reading that.

    I really really love how this game makes you suspicious of every single character. I used to have a stalker, and recently I’ve been dealing with severe harassment at work. The way you become suspicious of even your closest friend in this is just too realistic, because you truly do start over analyzing everybody and looking for “proof” that they’re in on it or have some malicious intent towards you. You become scared that everyone is out to get you, or at least that some people are and you don’t even know who. I haven’t finished the video yet, only an hour in, but I was admiring how real the effects of the stalking felt when Manly pointed out how paranoid the game makes you over everybody.
    Edit: after watching it fully, I’m a bit disappointed that almost everyone actually was in on it, however I do like that it gives feelings of validity to the situation. Instead of being “over dramatic” and “paranoid”, the fears were proven to be true… though it would be nice if women (and men) didn’t have to be attacked to be taken seriously.

      99.99 times out of 100 if you have a stalker it's going to be a lone weirdo I would think. I guess I can see how it would make you paranoid though, it's just self-preservation. I'm very glad to be broad shouldered and tall (and male obv) - I can walk past a group of guys on the street and night and stare right back at them as I pass, forcing them to move out of my way instead of the other way round. And I can go for a midnight walk with no worries. Must be very hard and scary to be a woman on her own in such cases. I think I'd probably just not go out anywhere after dark unless it was a public and well populated place and even then I'd be on guard. Would probably carry some sort of defensive equipment and an emergency contact device/alarm to be sure.

Knowing from personal experience of being there, the highest level creators don't even walk con floors anymore or interact much and if they do they wear literal masks. In the Vtubing space if a creator's real identity has spread around enough they're sometimes advised to also not go out in any event public event on the floor as small things they do or people they talk to could lead to a security breach of the more hidden remaining creators. I've heard of instances of them even using different phones so if they lose it or it gets stolen their socials that have access to the rest of the creators doesn't compromise them. Pretty frightening especially a vtuber getting her identity revealed (albeit by someone else purposely) and getting stalked. The game gives a lot of red herrings who might be the stalker, or maybe two? Since their actions makes them even more suspicious, even Asuka is not exempt from it, due to her lack of awareness on the seriousness of Nina's stalker situation. But turns out there are even more of them. Kind of scary as they were working together. They even got one guy to pose as the stereotypical hooded guy as the "stalker" role that scares Nina so she will trust anyone else who can "help" her.

      There was a female streamer in America that had a follower who traveled across America just to torch her car.
      Also, the streamer/Ytber plays a huge role in cultivating their fanbase. For example, if you're a cynical and deranged like Pyrocynical, then you get fans who will bully you into oblivion; but if you act mature and openly states you want your fanabse to act mature as well (JohnWolfe for example), then your fans will not act like the former, and any attempts to do so will be quickly shut down by the majority.
      I haven't watched Kagura Mea so I don't know what fans she cultivates but the wiki shows she tends to rage and swears when she's playing, so that can be why her fans acted like that.

Finding random objects left behind or your own stuff being subtly moved around and more. There could have been some scares using the closet and the reflection in the desktop monitor. Like he even offered the protag to stop by his station... like, even at that early stage of events, the fact someone managed to deactivate her model remotely AND sent her a threatening text should have been enough red flags to do something about it instantly.

    I watch a couple Vtubers from Hololive/Nijisanji and I sometimes wonder if they have constant panic attacks before they do streams? Because they could secretly have a fear of forgetting to actually show their Avatar or turning it on and actually wind-up showing their real faces through their webcams/camera's, since since some of them use phones and other devices to track their real body to animate their Avatar's body. They also have suits on that they use to capture the movement of their real body to animate their Avatar's body at the same time to match their movements. So a part of me wonders if they secretly freak out before they start a stream, since they could accidentally show themselves just sitting in a chair or standing in their room at home (or whatever they happen to be at) instead of showing their Avatar? Who knows probably not, but it just seems really stressful and panic inducing and seems like something that could happen at some point or something has already happened to someone somewhere? 🤔

    • @Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja
      @Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Back in the recent past, this was much more of a risk and concern. Now, with the advance of technology and the popularity of v-tubing, there are safeguards in place with this risk in mind. Nothing a large v-tubing employment company wants less than to accidentally expose their v-tuber's face. Not only is there probably a contract stipulation about revealing info and images, but it also ruins the illusion of the viewers when they find out what the tuber actually looks like. That also has a decent chance of ruining their popularity. Many viewers like the illusion of the v-tuber and what head-canon they've created. The more true-to-life facts are given to the audience, the more chances you have for people to become disinterested or upset.
      TL;DR: Yeah, people have been exposed in the past. However, v-tubing popularity, business, and technology advances have made it a lot easier and possible to prevent accidentally doxxing yourself. Simplest of all, just running your camera feed through a program that if it fails won't just default to the camera input.

    • @SovereignSage
      @SovereignSage ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja Yeah, it's sad in a way because we live in a world where people care more about people's appearances (people care more about how someone looks such as if they're attractive or not) instead of caring about who they are as an individual, as well as caring about their personality. I personally feel that people care more about how someone looks verus who they actually are as a person and a human being...There have been some Vtubers that I watch, who have shown their actual faces and it didn't bother me at all. It was nice to actually get to see what they really look like and I ended up liking them even more for revealing who they really were and it didn't change how I felt about them either. I still liked them the same, because I watch them and have been subbed to them for their personality and who they are as a person, their Avatar's appearance was always secondary to me. I only watch very few Vtubers though...and it's mostly Iron Mouse and her friends like Aethalstan, Nyanners, Haruka, Bubi (Aka Connor who I was subbed to first way before I subbed to Iron Mouse), etc. I also seen several other Vtubers that collaborate with Iron Mouse as well as Rainhoe, who shows up in CdawgVA's videos, but that's it. I only really watch Iron Mouse because she shows up/showed up in Connors videos a lot and had been featured a lot and she's the first Vtuber that I started watching. I don't really get into them personally, but I stuck around with Iron mouse because I liked her personality, her avatars are not really important to me at all and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way about other Vtubers that they watch, too? It is sad though, how people make up their own fantasies about people and then when they find out that that said person/Vtuber isn't at all like what they imagined or what they fantasize about and doesn't look like what they thought they looked like, they start hating on that person because it literally destroys their makeshift/made up world in their head about that person/Vtuber...but I guess, it's only natural for people to make up what they think someone looks like, if they know and only know what their voice sounds like...but personally I feel that voices can be deceiving as well... Someone can sound young or old and actually be completely the opposite...For instance...People that show up to my channel always assume that I'm a male or a young male teen, when I'm actually a 30yr old woman who looks like she's still 18yrs old due to genetics...Anyway, though that's all interesting and very true. Hololive would get in a lot of trouble if their Vtubers got exposed or doxxed because of them...They seem like a very trustworthy and confident company. So I'm sure that would never happen with them? In a video that Iron Mouse did once, she said that she's terrified of people actually seeing what she really looks like and when she has sent a picture of her to her close friends, such as Syykuno, Nyanners, Haruka and Connor, etc of what she really looks like, that it caused her to actually break down and cry and shake because she was freaking out that they (mostly Connor) knew what she really looked like...So that's also why I left this comment because I was curious if all Vtubers have panic attacks and heavy anxiety like Iron Mouse does before they stream and in general when it comes to their real appearances or not? 🤔

    • @Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja
      @Teenage_Mutant_Ginga_Ninja ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@SovereignSage You'd have to imagine that a lot of v-tubers get into it specifically because it's the only way for them to have a physical presence in their media, yet not have it attached directly to them. In this day and age, information is widely available, and it can be incredibly scary to give yourself over like that to the masses. There's a lot of awful individuals, and once you're out there and everyone can figure out who you are, it opens up a whole new world of anxiety and phobia.
      For example, you have 1 million fans. That number can be low or high for many entertainers. That alone can be incredibly intimidating for people. 1 million people would now know what you look like. When you hide yourself and then amass that kind of following, the reveal is a lot more impactful than if you would have been open from the start. You get all of the consequences and anxiety dumped on you all at once rather than over time from the start of your career. Even if you just end up showing a few friends eventually, the fear has likely consumed you by then and trusting people you've never met not to leak your photos or identity for the rest of time is a big deal in those circumstances.
      Now just imagine the kind of people on the internet. Out of the 1 million people you know nothing about, what are the chance that there's at least one psychopath/stalker who has grown an obsession over you because you gave them the space to create their own headcanon. When you're exposed from the start, your fan base is going to know who you are and what you're about and be drawn to you because of that. When you hide yourself and play a character, people can be obsessed over you and not even know the real you.
      A lot of the time, it's not about what they actually look like. Sure, they'll get made fun of, and their flaws will be picked at, but that's usually because their reveal is new and shiny and fun to play with. The biggest problem for a streamer would likely be the fear of the unknown. You fear what people can find out about you or do to you when you don't even know who they are. Just in my example, there's ONE MILLION unknown variables. When you suddenly jump into that, it would make most people break down.
      There are so many things involved that it's impossible to get into all of it, but essentially, the anonymity is the only security blanket these performers have. It's often the only reason they can do the things they do and say what they say. They are allowed to be different people and not be judged for it. When you cross that into your normal life, with the fear of the unknown on top, you won't even be able to find comfort in what your life used to be before. A lot of them just can't handle being popular or famous. They're just fine being a "nobody" that people don't pay particular attention to in real life. They'd much rather their alter ego be the topic of conversation rather than who they are personally, they can separate themselves from it.
      There is no "one size fits all" problem or solution. People are as diverse as they are wonderful or terrible. Unfortunately, there are many reasons to hide who you are, even more so if you're a woman. People know there is a risk to exposing yourself on the internet, and it's all about how they've built up those risks in their head. In a world where people will lie to the police and send the S.W.A.T team to your house for shits and giggles, it's hard not to feel unsafe when exposed.
      Edit: To answer your question at the end there. I think it's often an underlying worry, but they've often already ensured that it's not going to accidentally happen during daily streaming activities. They make sure it isn't possible to accidentally leak their image or info in any way possible before they even become veteran streamers. However, they often don't deal with their actual anxiety. It's often just pushed down and to the side until something comes up that can ruin their anonymity. If their anxiety over it is so overwhelming, their only option is to make sure it doesn't happen and that it doesn't affect their performance. Panic attacks are a general result when you're forced to think of all the things you're afraid of happening being out of your control, but I'm sure they rely on their routine and prep to fight it.

      As I understand it the software for avatars uses the camera for motiontracking only and doesn't stream out a live feed of the video to begin with. This happening in game would not be failure of the software it'd be the trojan horse that she downloaded hijacking the camera instead. The whole "transform" thing is probably to simplify it for players not familiar with the tech or a case of Chilla guessing at how it works. Also many have the facetracking running off their phone or a separate computer than the one running the game as the game video is streamed through that before streaming out to the Internet.
