Just discovered your channel. Watched several of your videos, very entertaining & informative. Haven't fished in Ireland for many years now. Fished mainly in and around West Cork, maybe I'll get back someday. Noticed that most anglers in Ireland use longer rods than we do here in the States. My go to rod for striped bass and most other salt water fish is a 7' G Loomis heavy action with a fast tip. My longest rod is 10' for heavy duty bait fishing in the surf and hardly ever gets used. If you get worried about the strength of your braid to flurocarbon leader knot, put a drop or two of super glue on it. I like how you frequently get a feed before fishing: however the limpets were a bridge too far. Tight lines
I've done well on the little 4 inch ones too for mackerel and bass from the shore. Can't praise Karl enough. He's given me lots of lures and hooks to give away to members of a lure page I used to admin for in the north east of England. Top bloke , great lure maker
Different marks fish better on different tides, If I was to fish a rocky weedy mark I would prefer rising tide. However, bass only need a couple feet of water to get in and start feeding so low water on sandy marks cannot be brushed off IMO 🙏 fg knot is a great knot. Blood one seems to be doing the job for me ATM 😜 thanks for reaching out!
@specimendavetv7826 thanks for the tips . Yeah just stick with what's best for you . What's good for me maybe not so good for you 😆 come over to norway il take you to some good spots 😉
Nice video Dave ,FG knot for me, jayus you must be roastin in those waders this time of year im still in shorts and spiked sandals more flexible climbing over rocks, God how i love the sand and seawater between my toes really exfoliating tight lines.
Great video and tips as always. Extra rattle in dolive stick for night fishing was killer for me last night :) especially when murky water or in dark :) or when they couldn't be bothered to feef seems to help. Working on long casting (seeker) like lure with rattle for coloured waters :) now
50lb Mono leader is a lot. I use 15lb flouro but I have been thinking about going to 25lb. As you know I have same rod. I got mine for 45 euro they are 60 euro now. They are super for the money they really are. I will start inserting those rattles into more of my softs. Great video again.
Thanks Paul 🙏 personally I wouldn't go lower than 30lb and it's just a mental thing, like you say you use 15lb and works fine. But it would always be in the back of my head and would hold me back from fishing certain areas of certain marks. Rattles are God's gift, especially in dirty water 🌊
Great video. You’d be much better off using an fg knot for your leader. It’s much neater, slimmer and stronger. Will pass through the eyes easier and pick up less weed. The Albright knot is another good one and quicker to tie if you struggle to tie the fg.
The blood knot seems to be working fine, I don't leave the leader long enough to go into the eyes of the rod. But the FG knot is very popular so too is the Albright. ☺️
Nice explanation 😃 I was wondering what the name of the lure is? I'm looking for such setup where the hook is hidden in the lure. What this type of lure is called?
This lure is called The Slapper. If you are in the Republic of Ireland, you can get them in Southside Angling, in store or online. If you are in the UK, you can get them directly from Rooneys Fishing Supplies who make them or from one of his distributors 🙌
Great video and really like your approach to Bass fishing. Nice to see that silver fella going back to fight another day!
Glad I found this. Miss bass and mackerel fishing; lucky if I get to do it twice a year. Tight lines

Bought a shimano vengence after watching this superb rod for the price ,thx 👍
Always love watching the first fish caught of the day, what a beauty! 👍
It's always a good feeling 😄 cheers my man 🙌
Thanks for sharing. I know what to ask from Santi this Xmas!
Karl roonies lures are very underrated. He does some great stuff. Love the bulb tails he does
I agree. Had some hard hits on the bulb tails, the darting action is irresistible to bass when they're on the feed 🔥

Proper silver slab Dave. Top angling as always 👌 🎣.
Great vid interesting set up! 👍
Thanks Stephen, everyone has their own preferences for rods and reels but at the end of the day they all work 😄
Brilliant. What tides you prefer to fish on. Also learn the fg knot for leader . Best knot you will fine .

Do live stick looks very good in the water I nearly want to eat it myself 😂
