Hi great review, I’m looking at buying one but concerned about the height! I have a Nash indulgence 4 leg bed chair which is quite high even on the lowest of settings and in my Trakker tempest sitting on my bed my head is touching the roof and I can’t see out the door without ducking down. How do you think the Frontier X would be for me? I want a Bivvy with enough height for me to be able to sit on my bed and see out ideally.
@@rickytabs I don’t know know but if you prefer height I think the xd is higher I’ve not got one so can’t say for sure but look up dimensions you’ll find them on fox website Cheers
Great review mate, recon I might pull the trigger soon looks fantastic! When you say you will get your winter bivvy out, do you not consider this to be any good for winter?
Yes I’d use it in winter once my winter bivvy is no more good, I wouldn’t get anything for my winter bivvy so I may aswel use it until it’s no more good and I do fish all through winter and it’s a triple skin so just makes it nicer I’ve just done a review on the fox extension for frontier so when I do use it in winter I’ll use it with that on Cheers
Thank you for the review. Its so difficult to decide on which bivvy to buy. Out of interest, which Winter bivvy do you use please? Would the Frontier X not be suitable for Winter? Thanks again.
Hi I use trakker slx v3 2 man for winter as I had it before the frontier x When that bivvy eventually gives up and is no longer good enough I will be using the frontier through winter but might add a wrap or porch to it I’ve got a couple of mates that use the frontier all year round so I’ve no problem using it aswell Great bivvy and I’m doing update video on it this weekend so will be out in week or two Hope this helps Cheers👍🏼
Not sure if this has been asked but im going to start taking my young son who's 5. Would it be possible to fit us both in the x? Thinking of a blow up bed or small bedchair for him, probably at the back and my bedchair at the front. Wondering if its doable with the X or if id maybe need the XD?
Hi I’m not sure in the x, it would have to be really small bed but like I said not sure I know the xd is bigger but I’ve not got one yet that’s going to be my new winter bivvy 🤞🏼 Another option is the frontier x porch or extension I know that does fit two in as I’ve done a review on it I’ll go find the link and post to here Cheers
Thank you for taking the time to reply 👍🏻 I'll see if I can see them in person to compare. I've already seen your video, that's definitely an option especially for when we go abroad. Thanks again 👍🏻
Good Review .. Just brought a new XD bivvy its the business , got 1 question are the peaks good and do they stop the condensation plus iam not sure i would get the inner dome over the peak .
Hi I’ve got the peak personally I think it’s makes a difference, if I had to choose between peak or inner dome for me it would be peak but it’s down to personal preference, I’d rather have the protection from rain and condensation than mozzys I use mine early spring to late autumn as I have a winter bivvy Your always going to get a bit of condensation but it stops majority of it and the more the doors shut the more you’ll get but I try to have door open as much as possible Hope this helps Cheers
I have just got this bivvy the standard frontier with the vapour peak I am made up with it. I have lots of room in the standard the flat back gives you more space so I opted for the standard not the X as I am only 5ft 7 ha... Only thing I don't like about the standard is there is no vents in the front but I have bought the full mozzy infill for the summer months. Great review mate I will be defo getting the avid adapters and now subscribed 👍.
How you finding the pack down on the X are you breaking down the elbows in any specific order such a center back 1st the the two left then 2 right or just working your way though all 5. I'm trying to fathom the best way on mine as to get the fabric neat and the pack down as tight as possible.
Hi The reason I change is for a few reasons,I love the frontier and want to keep it in as good condition so I can use it for a long time and during early spring to late autumn if I need to move quick it’s nice and easy to do so, also in those months I don’t carry as much gear clothes food drink etc so can get away with smaller bivvy, also I have the extension I can put on the front if needed for longer sessions when I can’t move as you’ll see later this year where the swim you get is where you stay and I’m there for 4-5 days. In winter I like a bit more room so I can take extra gear as there’s a good chance to get wet several times in winter plus you spend mor3 time in your bivvy in winter due to weather so nice to have that bit more room, also I have a lot of camera gear so need extra room for that, another reason is some of the places I’ve fished in the past your tucked in trees and during a couple of very windy storms I’ve had shit fall on the bivvy and don’t want to ruin the frontier,my winter bivvy is triple skin so the outer skin takes the hit it also has sewn in ground sheet so when it’s really windy it stops a lot of draft coming in the bivvy again just making it more comfortable while out on the bank, I fish all the way through winter no matter what the weather and I’ve fished through a lot of the bad storms over the years shame I didn’t video back then as I could have put them up, I know it’s not for everyone but it’s just the way I work, failing to prepare is preparing to fail Hope that explains it a bit better Cheers👍
Hi I wouldn’t leave ground sheet attached as I think it could cause problems when erecting it again if twisted or not 100% correct could put extra force on poles and break them To fit it is easy enough,I lay it out put my bed on it then put bivvy over it sometimes I clip it in sometimes I don’t sometimes I don’t use ground sheet But once it’s all up I put one peg in then you can from the outside of the bivvy go round and clip ground sheet in then peg it out Hope this helps Cheers👍🏼
If you look at the review I done on this site on the trakker slx you’ll see it’s my winter bivvy It’s a 3 skin system rather than a single or twin skin If I had an overwrap for this bivvy I’d use it in winter but I already had the trakker before buying this so use that I’m pretty sure it would be fine for winter fishing as I’ve a few mates who use it for winter Cheers 👍🏼
Never known a bivvy to come with additional pegs, unless they are for the vents, not tried them open as yet. My mate brought the Mossi mesh, seems a waste of money, just open the front mesh and the Mossi mesh door almost exactly the same, saved forty quid
Hi nick That’s exactly what I was thinking about the mozzi font hence why I’ve not bought it yet Yea I think extra pegs are for ventilation pegging and storm cords
@@TymsCarpTv I assume they must be, they are very good bivvy oegs as well, I must have had a right result from my local shop as I only paid 575 with the vapour peak
Can I ask I have just bought a frontier X with a winter over wrap too. I take it you don't need to put the vapour peak on when using the over wrap or do you?
Never gonna use the magnetic strip on the ridge monkey light again, they now just go in one of the pockets as stops it bloody falling off and having to find the strip… also the hook in the roof, did you attach the outer one when you first set it up to take the weight off the material
😂😂 lost that a couple of times😂😂 I use the fox one it’s like it was made to fit the pocket I can’t remember the outside hook bit but it was 5 months ago ish, I don’t use the centre hook 👍🏼

@@TymsCarpTv yeah would be good to see them together. Xd foot print is not much bigger , with inner on I think its the same , but it is taller than the x
Hi I’ve have packed it down with peak on as I used to have trakker one and always left peak on But I prefer to take it off on the fox one as I don’t always want peak on in summer and it goes on easier than trakker one in my opinion As for poles again I’ve used it with and without I think it’s a personal choice thing Thanks
Hi thanks If your on about the new trakker I can’t comment as I’ve not had one but have seen a few up that mates have and they look as good but I think there more money It’s a case of what suits you best and the this frontier is perfect for me Thanks
Hi Sorry forgot to mention that the condensation on the inside is mainly on front panel if you use one around the sides and back only a very small amount due to the windows and vents as they act like a double layer Cheers
Am looking at this or a trakker. I've heard water can get in? As it doesn't have clear doors so it's either open, closed, or mozzie mesh? Is that correct? Thx
Hi I’m pretty sure you get a pvc door with it but I’d have to check as I’ve never used it😂 but I’m sure there’s one in the bag of bits I’m out in it again this weekend filming an update on the bivvy so I’ll check for you and get pics email me on tymstv97@gmail.com to remind me Sunday Thanks

@@rickytabs hi the xd is a tad bigger and more height I’ve been told check them out if you need height
Cheers👍🏼
@@TymsCarpTv do you think that would be more suitable. Is the height of the X not to good then?
@@rickytabs I don’t know know but if you prefer height I think the xd is higher I’ve not got one so can’t say for sure but look up dimensions you’ll find them on fox website

Great review mate, recon I might pull the trigger soon looks fantastic! When you say you will get your winter bivvy out, do you not consider this to be any good for winter?
Yes I’d use it in winter once my winter bivvy is no more good, I wouldn’t get anything for my winter bivvy so I may aswel use it until it’s no more good and I do fish all through winter and it’s a triple skin so just makes it nicer
I’ve just done a review on the fox extension for frontier so when I do use it in winter I’ll use it with that on
Cheers
Thank you for the review. Its so difficult to decide on which bivvy to buy. Out of interest, which Winter bivvy do you use please? Would the Frontier X not be suitable for Winter? Thanks again.
Hi
I use trakker slx v3 2 man for winter as I had it before the frontier x
When that bivvy eventually gives up and is no longer good enough I will be using the frontier through winter but might add a wrap or porch to it
I’ve got a couple of mates that use the frontier all year round so I’ve no problem using it aswell
Great bivvy and I’m doing update video on it this weekend so will be out in week or two
Hope this helps
Cheers👍🏼
Not sure if this has been asked but im going to start taking my young son who's 5. Would it be possible to fit us both in the x? Thinking of a blow up bed or small bedchair for him, probably at the back and my bedchair at the front. Wondering if its doable with the X or if id maybe need the XD?
Hi
I’m not sure in the x, it would have to be really small bed but like I said not sure I know the xd is bigger but I’ve not got one yet that’s going to be my new winter bivvy 🤞🏼
Another option is the frontier x porch or extension I know that does fit two in as I’ve done a review on it I’ll go find the link and post to here

Good Review .. Just brought a new XD bivvy its the business , got 1 question are the peaks good and do they stop the condensation plus iam not sure i would get the inner dome over the peak .
Hi I’ve got the peak personally I think it’s makes a difference, if I had to choose between peak or inner dome for me it would be peak but it’s down to personal preference, I’d rather have the protection from rain and condensation than mozzys I use mine early spring to late autumn as I have a winter bivvy
Your always going to get a bit of condensation but it stops majority of it and the more the doors shut the more you’ll get but I try to have door open as much as possible
Hope this helps
Cheers
I have just got this bivvy the standard frontier with the vapour peak I am made up with it. I have lots of room in the standard the flat back gives you more space so I opted for the standard not the X as I am only 5ft 7 ha... Only thing I don't like about the standard is there is no vents in the front but I have bought the full mozzy infill for the summer months. Great review mate I will be defo getting the avid adapters and now subscribed 👍.
Hi Paul
Yes I’m thinking about the mozzi front for next year
Thanks
How you finding the pack down on the X are you breaking down the elbows in any specific order such a center back 1st the the two left then 2 right or just working your way though all 5.
I'm trying to fathom the best way on mine as to get the fabric neat and the pack down as tight as possible.
Why would you change bivvy from frontier to different one for winter ? Cheers 🍻
Hi
The reason I change is for a few reasons,I love the frontier and want to keep it in as good condition so I can use it for a long time and during early spring to late autumn if I need to move quick it’s nice and easy to do so, also in those months I don’t carry as much gear clothes food drink etc so can get away with smaller bivvy, also I have the extension I can put on the front if needed for longer sessions when I can’t move as you’ll see later this year where the swim you get is where you stay and I’m there for 4-5 days.
In winter I like a bit more room so I can take extra gear as there’s a good chance to get wet several times in winter plus you spend mor3 time in your bivvy in winter due to weather so nice to have that bit more room, also I have a lot of camera gear so need extra room for that, another reason is some of the places I’ve fished in the past your tucked in trees and during a couple of very windy storms I’ve had shit fall on the bivvy and don’t want to ruin the frontier,my winter bivvy is triple skin so the outer skin takes the hit it also has sewn in ground sheet so when it’s really windy it stops a lot of draft coming in the bivvy again just making it more comfortable while out on the bank,
I fish all the way through winter no matter what the weather and I’ve fished through a lot of the bad storms over the years shame I didn’t video back then as I could have put them up,
I know it’s not for everyone but it’s just the way I work, failing to prepare is preparing to fail
Hope that explains it a bit better
Cheers👍
Can it be put away with the groundsheet still attached and is it a faff to fit everytime if not?? Top review mate 👍
Hi
I wouldn’t leave ground sheet attached as I think it could cause problems when erecting it again if twisted or not 100% correct could put extra force on poles and break them
To fit it is easy enough,I lay it out put my bed on it then put bivvy over it sometimes I clip it in sometimes I don’t sometimes I don’t use ground sheet
But once it’s all up I put one peg in then you can from the outside of the bivvy go round and clip ground sheet in then peg it out
Hope this helps
Cheers👍🏼
Would you not use this bivvy in the winter? You said you have a winter bivvy just curious why you wouldn’t use this one?? Great vid.
If you look at the review I done on this site on the trakker slx you’ll see it’s my winter bivvy
It’s a 3 skin system rather than a single or twin skin
If I had an overwrap for this bivvy I’d use it in winter but I already had the trakker before buying this so use that
I’m pretty sure it would be fine for winter fishing as I’ve a few mates who use it for winter
Cheers 👍🏼
Never known a bivvy to come with additional pegs, unless they are for the vents, not tried them open as yet. My mate brought the Mossi mesh, seems a waste of money, just open the front mesh and the Mossi mesh door almost exactly the same, saved forty quid
Hi nick
That’s exactly what I was thinking about the mozzi font hence why I’ve not bought it yet
Yea I think extra pegs are for ventilation pegging and storm cords
@@TymsCarpTv I assume they must be, they are very good bivvy oegs as well, I must have had a right result from my local shop as I only paid 575 with the vapour peak

Hi
I’ve have packed it down with peak on as I used to have trakker one and always left peak on
But I prefer to take it off on the fox one as I don’t always want peak on in summer and it goes on easier than trakker one in my opinion
As for poles again I’ve used it with and without I think it’s a personal choice thing

Hi one question how is look condensation with skoll cap
Hi
Skull cap makes a big difference well worth buying in my option.
Still get a bit on sides depending on weather and time of the year
Cheers
Hi
Sorry forgot to mention that the condensation on the inside is mainly on front panel if you use one around the sides and back only a very small amount due to the windows and vents as they act like a double layer
Cheers
Am looking at this or a trakker. I've heard water can get in? As it doesn't have clear doors so it's either open, closed, or mozzie mesh? Is that correct? Thx

Hi, would you recommend this or the slx v3 150 as I’ve seen you done review on this also? Thanks
Hi
I use the frontier beginging spring to end autumn and the trakker through winter and I like both for different reasons
But if I had to use one all year and no others I think I’d buy the fox frontier XD mines the X
my reason for this is in summer use just bivvy and peak and in winter I’d put inner pod in and in depth of winter when it’s bad use over wrap aswell covers every possibility
But for the price of the overwrap for frontier you could probally buy the trakker
But end of the day it’s your decision you know how and where you fish so buy to suit you

Why wouldn’t they put a window on the front door aswell
