Ryan Days record vs Oregon, 1 loss, 1 Covid forfeit.. it’s no wonder they asked Chip Kelly for help! Haha

I think Lanning still has a lot to prove on the field but would still put him ahead of Riley for a couple of reasons. He recruits better, and he has put complete teams on the field. The #3 recruiting class at a school that's about as far from top talent as you can be. As far as complete teams, Oregon was in the top 10 in scoring offense and defense last year. He also has the head to head win.

As far as recruiting goes, keep in mind the impact NIL is having. Some schools like Oregon and Texas A&M went straight to pay-for-play. This gave them a huge advantage over schools that didn't use it as a recruiting tool. As the rules become universal, these schools will go back to their traditional roles.
In Tennessee's court case a judge rules that the NCAA cannot enforce it's NIL regulations. Within a month USC flips a 5-star DL commit from Georgia. The SEC should be careful what they wish for.

@@mathieufaltys USC and OSU can throw just as much money. Why did Oregon flip their receivers? It wasn't NIL

@@zoam7881This has been Oregon's time to shine. For the last decade, they have been around the top of the conference while USC has been tripping over themselves. I'm sure that has a big impact for these kids coming out of high school when all they have ever known is Oregon being the better program.
That being said, until very recently USC played the NIL game extremely conservatively. It was literally only for the players already on the roster. The program still goes WAY above and beyond what others do to be sure nobody can accuse them of breaking any rules. They want to avoid another BS Reggie Bush situation. Now that the restraints are officially gone, Oregon won't be winning many recruiting battles with USC.

All the PJ Fleck hate on this channel is clearly based on personal bias. JTG is an Iowa fan, yet he’s able to put his bias aside and give credit where credit is due.

It's jokes, relax. I don't really hate Fleck. People being annoyed by his antics sometimes isn't "hating"

@@BigtenshowI don't have an issue with people disliking his personality. PJ is a polarizing figure, no doubt about that. But PJ can coach and has been doing a pretty decent job at a school where it's very difficult to get positive results. My issue is the lack of recognition as a coach due to people's dislike of his personality. If you want to rank him fairly then removing personal bias as much as possible is the way to go if you want to reach all 18 Big Ten fan bases. I can't stand certain fan bases and coaches in the Big Ten, but I'll give credit where credit is due.

In our Minnesota episode I was less jokey about how I felt about Fleck and actually had my eyes opened to some of his sayings and stuff, so I do respect what he's done there, it's just become my thing to kinda joke on him a bit, but in actuality I do respect what he has done at Minnesota and I do think he's a solid coach for sure 😊

this is stupid It has more about where these teams end up W vs L as apposed to the quality of the coach himself. A crappy coach at OSU is going to have more wins than a great coach at Northwestern. They also believe that former PAC12 teams can't compete Ask Day whe Oregon came to town in '21.

Larry, which specific ones did you have an issue with? I thought we were as a consensus way higher on some of the coaches than some of the big media outlet rankings.

In seven years as a head coach, Lincoln Riley finally had his first down year last year. This has given all the haters an opportunity to take jabs. That's cool, get them in while you can. The off-season USC has had makes me think Riley's future is brighter than his past, not the other way around.
To say that a coach with two years experience and zero conference championships is "def better" comes off as quite myopic. I can understand the enthusiasm because his potential appears limitless, but he needs to prove it before he can honestly be ranked in the top5 in the B1G.

@@whatlol_e I get it. Lanning is a great recruiter and his teams look good. He may become the best coach of his generation, but he isn't yet. In fact, his first two years as a head coach aren't even close to what Riley accomplished in his first two years.
In Riley's first two years as head coach, he had 11-1 regular season record both years. He went on to win his conference championship game and a spot in the playoffs twice. Plus, he brought home two Heisman trophies.
I'm sure you would rather compare Riley's first two years at USC. Riley took over a dumpster fire and has yet to turn it around. Lanning inherited a loaded Oregon team that was already competing for conference championships. Even so, Lanning really hasn't accomplished more than Riley in these last two years. He has a slightly better record but still no conference championship and no playoff appearance. They both played in one conference championship game and they both lost.
I'm just hoping to see both these two have their programs at a top level so as to keep the majority of the playoff spots in the B1G rather than the SEC.
