Joining the club. Last weekend my buddies did a barrel proof blind, ECBP won. There was even a ECBP store pick in the mix and it lost. But yesterday I picked up a Jack Daniel SB BP... it would have won that blind. Easily.
Sean nailed the description with banana, peanut butter and jelly on the nose. Was really struggling to identify the aroma until he said banana. Dan nailed the pallet with banana, ethanol then roasted nuts after the alcohol burn subsides. Great review gents!
3y later and I’m just now trying it for the first time. I LOVE the intense roasted nuttiness on the palate and the creamy sweetness. The heat is balanced. Absolutely an amazing bottle.
Jack Daniels' Single Barrel offerings are unreal. Just so good. They defy all expectations. I love blowing people's minds when I get them to try a sip and THEN I tell them they are drinking a Jack Daniels product. Great video, fellas.
I went to a JD tasting with Chris Fletcher, their Assistant MD and it was excellent. Tried all of their single barrel varieties, barrel proof was definitely the best.
When I discovered this at their distillery 4 years ago, I did not even hesitate to grab two bottles at different proofs. It is one of my favorites to share with friends. At the end of the day, these are all picked by somebody! I also love the bottle design. Feels good, pours well, and that's why It's going to become my single barrel infinity bottle.
This is a beautiful whiskey. It has such a nice oak presence and the barrel proof is perfect to bring out all the right flavours. And it is routinely $45 US in my city (Calgary Alberta and no I have to pay in Canadian Dollars which which works out to $57). Top 10 hands down. The other nine are Four Roses :).
Total agree with this video. I just bought this last week and was amazed at how good it is! I was surprised 😮 that I haven’t heard more people brag about this bottle/juice
I've put off the purchase of a JD barrel proof long enough, so I put my stimulus money to good use and bought a bottle today. I've always considered JD overpriced, especially the $57 single barrel which is more than double the price of No. 7. To me JD is the Macallan or Johnnie Walker of the U.S. However, this barrel proof is head and shoulders above their other products. My bottle is 131.1 proof and is $70 in NC. When you consider it is only $13 more than the 94 proof single barrel, this is a no-brainer. It drinks like it is 110 proof, I prefer it to the ECBP A119 I had a few months ago.
Agree about most JD products being overpriced, particularly the flagship No 7, now 80P. You will never see that on anybody's list of value whiskeys. At least It is not bad though, like JB white. Proves that almost anything that is heavily advertised is either overpriced or a bad product or both. But yeah, they make it up with the standard barrel proof offerings, even have a BP rye. The JD Bonded Rye is over priced, $32-35 for 700mL, when Old Forester Rye (also Brown Forman) is $26-28 for 1L.
I found a 750 of this at my local Binny's on Saturday and had to pick it up. Loving it so far! I'm not great at picking up a ton of notes to be honest but I definitely get brown sugar and banana walnut bread. And for around 130 proof, it drinks lower. I thought it FELT comparable in proof to Old Forester 1920.
I have a local store pick and it is delicious. 132 proof but you would never guess it as it is so smooth. Lots of banana and oak on the nose. Decided to buy it vs the over priced bookers. Well worth the price.
I was also very surprised by how good this was and bought a few more in the 375ml size as the 750mls seem to be out of stock most places I looked. In one place two of the 375mls were even cheaper than the 750ml for some reason. All the JD Single barrels I've tried have been great, including the Rye. Hoping to score some of the Special Releases in the future.
Just went back and re-watched this video after purchasing the best JD SBBP I've ever tasted. This has become a bit harder to find recently, so I've felt inclined to pick them up whenever I spot a bottle from a new barrel. I already had 3 different 750ml bottles and one 375ml bottle on the shelf at home, and happened to stumble across a new 375ml this evening--134.1 proof (the highest one I've ever seen is 134.8; curious to know how high they go). Anyhow, I got it home and opened it and it pretty much blew all of those previous bottles away. Even the ECBPs I've got on hand don't stack up (although I do have an EC SBBP that comes pretty close). It was so excellent, in fact, that I drove back down to the liquor store and bought the remaining 3 bottles they had from that barrel. Just goes to show that the quality of these is as variable as the proof.. seemingly on a scale of 'banana popsicle' to 'banana bread' :)
I got a bottle of this on clearance for $31.99. I kind of knew JD in the square bottles was going to be good. I'm hunting that new 12 year old which is not on the store shelves yet. Saw it mixed in with some other bottles. Took it to the price checker at Mjeirs. As soon as I saw the price I knew it was mine. Oh my, is this good.
Kinda excited about getting a bottle now. I’ve had JD black labels that I’ve received as gifts and re-gifted. Now I have a JD product I can look forward to.

If it hasn't been suggested yet, you guys would be perfect to do a tribute episode to Scott & Bart as the "Bourbon Test Dummies". Sean could have a laptop giving a score of "91" and Dan could yell TEST IIIIIT!!! using descriptors like graham cracker crust (STD fans would get all this).

Since the time of this video, both the Single Barrel Select and Barrel Proof have come down in price, at least in CA. $35-$45 for the Select and $55 for the Barrel Proof at most places. It’s always on the shelf nobody buys it, crazy.
How do you compare to Elijah Craig Barrel Proof ???? ECBP is 12 years old and I'm reading JDSBBP is from 4 to 7 years old which shocked me but no info on the JD website.
We buy all the releases of ECBP and love most of them, also yet to have a JDSBBP we didn't love. JD is usually more peanut butter and ECBP is more mixed nuts.

I like proof and bananas, so this IS my whiskey! No seriously, this stuff is truly fantastic. On my bar it sits next to (6 expressions of) ECBP and 1792 Full, and holds its own, depending what I'm in the mood for. There is no denying the banana presence, but I like that a lot. I used to think OF 1910 had a strong banana presence until I started drinking the Jack SB and SB BP.
Just recently got to try this and really liked it except that it was 120 bucks at a local liquor store. I WON'T PAY....I WILL NOT!! .....I said holding the bottle and pointing at the owner before running out like a mad man. I didn't run out with the bottle..I put it back ...
I was skeptical when buying this, and only bought it because of the high proof when I saw it in the store. Holy s$*t. This is a great whiskey/technically bourbon. Came on TH-cam to see if you guys reviewed this. So glad you feel the same way.

So if you're looking at JD there is single barrel select, single barrel 100 proof and single barrel barrel proof. The difference between them all is proof points.

i'm not trying to give medical advice here but i drank jack daniels single barrel barrel proof all through the pandemic and i did not get covid. just sayin.
you need to dilute it a bit with water, it is too high alcohol content to drink clean and actually be able to enjoy it, 6 drops of water for a serving would be perfect, try it

Try a different barrel. The finish on the bottle I’m drinking is the best part. Really balanced for a 128 proof bottle.

There is single barrel and single barrel barrel proof. Barrel proof is usually around 60% or higher. Both are good though
