Technically my main pc is a dumpster dive, i only bought a laptoo cpu adapter for 100 euros and an rx580 for 200 (yes i was hosed on that one but it was 2020)
Just built a little beast for under $100 USB too. Bought a case with a motherboard and i5 6500 at a thrift shop for $10! Inspired me to build something, so I started looking through thrift shops and FB market place. Picked up a psu at a Goodwill for $20, then found $20 on the sidewalk outside, so free? Got an ssd for $10 off Amazon for Black Friday and had a 1tb hhd I was given with a gifted PC. Then picked up a gtx 970 for $40 from Facebook and 16gb 3200mhz ddr4 for $20 off Craigslist. All that totalled to $100, but since the psu was basically free, I spent another $15 on some rgb fans. Looks great now! Super happy with it
You can modify your BIOS to add resizable BAR support to old motherboards like this. It works on RX 400/500 series using Nimez drivers. I got a 10+% improvement in DX12 and reduces the stutters alot.
I remember doing this with a HD6000 series card, yet I just thought it wasn't doing anything that Windows 10 already does with extra allocated ram set aside to the GPU anyway. But that was a year ago. I'd definitely give it another try if I ever get ahold of another older AMD card.

My first gaming PC actually had an i7-2600. It was a Dell Optiplex 990MT that I picked up for around $200 new and which I paired with a 1050ti. It ran 1080p low pretty good with 60+ fps for years. Crazy to see this CPU still performing well in 2022!
Awesome bargaining! I got an HP Pavilion 500 with an i7 4790s, 8GB DDR3, 1TB HDD and a GTX 745 for 50€ shipped. Sold the graphics card for 20€, bought a used 500W PSU for 15€, another stick of 8GB RAM for 8€ shipped and an untested GTX 970 for 25€ - total cost was therefore less than 80€, I think that’s a steal as well as your computer over here! Plus the GTX 970 was indeed working 🥳
I'm rocking a XFX RX 480 8gb. I got it for $79 US almost a year ago. It's a 1080p champ! I have a bit of a bottleneck with my 11600KF but I can live with it and I'm happy. Great video!

I thought the OptiPlex 390 maximum cpu official support was i5 2400, but 2500 works as well. Never tried an i7 though. Had to short 3 pins together on front io, and run a wire from Cpu fan green wire all the way to pin 3 on front fan connector and from there I ran another wire to pin 3 on back fan connector to get rid of those messages. Basically all 3 tachometric signal pins were connected to each other. The most annoying obscure problem ever.
Very enjoyable (and enlightening) video - thanks! As a Linux user, I love "old" tech. I was very impressed with the "ultra-sonic cleaner" - have never seen/heard of anything like that before. If I were in Oz, I'd definitely considering buying this PC from you 😉

This is what PC flippin is all about. Building something useful of older hardware comming of "trash" deals. That RX 480 8GB for 60 AUD... That is a steal m8 - congratulations! For those who don't know, the RX 480 is practically the same as the later RX 580, where the only improvement was the clockspeed increase (and the higher power target/limit set, so it could maintain that speed stable = 10% better performance). Good thing about udervolting the RX 480 reference, is that it now can sustain a stable 1266 MHz factory speed, compared to the throttlling happening at stock settings, due to hitting the power limit. Just doing that, you get 3-5% better performance.
About to do a similar build for a friend with an I 5 4460 Dell system I got free from work. Couldn’t you depin the Dell power button connector keeping the strange jumper setup on it and just put the power button pins from the new case into it?

Good video which I will definitely come back to reference, but I think it's important to note that almost no one will have a huge ultrasonic cleaner at home (many won't even have a compressed air blower), nor a PSU tester! Also, he didn't factor in his fuel costs in collecting the components, nor his labour costs - even at minimum wage, the amount of time put into this far exceeds the $100 spent on parts! Just built kind of a beast for under $150 because of the craziest Craigslist deal I've ever scored. BeQuiet pure base 500 in white, z390 designare, 9900k, 32gb of 3200mhz lpx, 500w evga psu, and a weird pcie wifi adapter for $80. Replaced the psu with a seasonic 860 plat I've had for awhile, threw my old 980 ti hybrid in there and bought a 1tb crucial p3 off Amazon for $62 on black Friday. Someday when I sell the 500w psu and the wifi adapter, might end up costing less than $100!
@@ihatelols I am still kind of in shock every time I look at it. It had been posted for 3 hours and I was the second person to contact the seller. Double couldn't believe I heard back from him a day later that the first person had bailed! I am on the lookout for GPU upgrade but I think it's only right to shop for them by the same principle. Gotta find a CRAZY deal so it matches lol. I'll be patient, prices are only going to drop further and the 980 ti really is fine for the 32" 1080p TV it's connected to.
There are front I/O adapters for the Dell Optiplex 390 series that can be found for less than $30 on eBay. These will allow you to use almost any case normally. I've bought several and they work flawlessly. Super easy to install
I need to get back to doing stuff like this again. Building PC's helped me pay for school during the pandemic and I learned a lot in the process. You don't need the latest and greatest for a good gaming experience. IIRC this old dell motherboards can be rigged by splicing the 2 left jumpers and the top right into a single cable. I think I just stripped the wires and taped them together with some electrical tape.
Good move on selling the Stinger Brian. Lately KIA and Hyundai have been experiencing a lot of engine failures worldwide. Stingers are the worst. Love the Focus, I had an XR5 a while ago, great option as well (the Volvo engine version - 5 Cylinders). Great to see you back in Oz and chasing the deals.
i wish we had a dumpster here in Philippines , but no ,people here love recycling event the tiny pieces of metal being pick up , there's no room for me to hunt pc parts , by the way I'm one of your fan now I like what your doing , keep it up sir
Good to see ya back down under mate! Great banger build! BTW, whats the music track you used for the b-roll? Ps.... You got me back into PC gaming 2 years ago and now I've been flipping some PCs for fun, cash and something to do in Welly, NZ. Keep up the good work.
Hey Brian I used your Windows sponsor to grab a Win 11 Pro key for my new build it worked perfectly, nice and fast so thanks for that. My only remaining issue right now is to find out why the cpu clocks/temps/watts are missing on Msi Afterburner.
Hey Brian, love your vids since 2017. Don't you have a problem with water getting into the cables of the PSU? I can imagine, it's impossible to get water out of there once it's in. Greetings from a former Xeon enjoyer, thanks to TJC
How do you mean "into"? They are insulator sealed, but even if you got something in there what difference does it make, it would just sit between insulator and wire...
If you need molex power but want the rpm sense, cut the +V on the 3 pin, otherwise you may be shorting the voltage control motherboard header to to full 12V
Jesus My heart jumped for a second, I just sold my PC on eBay and it was delivered yesterday seeing this PC was similar to what I sold, gave me a heart attack...
I also built a PC where I got a Z68 Mainboard with a 2600k and giant Noctua Cooler for 50€. Slapped 16GB of DDR3-1600 and an 8GB RX 580 with an Accelero IV pre installed (90€ btw.) in there and it runs like a charm!
Noctua coolers are just such great value for money. They last for ages and with the right mounting brackets can be re used on new builds for cheap. I'm upgrading from an 8700k to a 13600k and will reuse my Noctua NH-D15s with a mounting bracket. But the best thing is, if you send Noctua proof of you having bought a cooler and proof of buying a new motherboard they will send you the mounting bracket for free!
Impressive as always sir. I love giving life to old tech and have learned ALOT from your work so, thank you. Also, since the ketchup and mustard wires always triggers my OCD I found a spray called Flex Seal. It's basically a rubberized liquid electrical tape I hose down all the wires with and paint them all black. Yes I take the "red neck" approach BUT it looks good 🙂

Man.. this would be a perfect first gaming PC for me... how awesome
So happy to see the ultrasonic cleaner again! and the dumpster finds too
Tech YES is finally back!!! 😌🙂👍✊💥
Nice! I wonder if baking the 950 would've fixed it.
I wonder if baking the dishonest seller would´ve fixed it. lol
@@hartmutdietz1228 Maybe 🤔
As far as the ultrasonic cleaner goes, distilled, or even better de-ionized water is a safer bet for electronics.
Geez, at this point I would definitely buy new components. :D Nice job restoring those parts. (Y)
Love the music choices
Good move on selling the Stinger Brian. Lately KIA and Hyundai have been experiencing a lot of engine failures worldwide. Stingers are the worst. Love the Focus, I had an XR5 a while ago, great option as well (the Volvo engine version - 5 Cylinders). Great to see you back in Oz and chasing the deals.
i wish we had a dumpster here in Philippines , but no ,people here love recycling event the tiny pieces of metal being pick up , there's no room for me to hunt pc parts , by the way I'm one of your fan now I like what your doing , keep it up sir
love it
keep them deals coming
At 5:34. Is that pour by fresh water or non conductive water?. I don't get with that machine. What is exactly it?
A video about the digital ultrasonic cleaner would be helpful. How can it be safe to use on pc parts?
Probably not hard drives.
Top job mate!
Good to see ya back down under mate! Great banger build! BTW, whats the music track you used for the b-roll? Ps.... You got me back into PC gaming 2 years ago and now I've been flipping some PCs for fun, cash and something to do in Welly, NZ. Keep up the good work.
I missed these videos of budget build guides
Hey Brian I used your Windows sponsor to grab a Win 11 Pro key for my new build it worked perfectly, nice and fast so thanks for that. My only remaining issue right now is to find out why the cpu clocks/temps/watts are missing on Msi Afterburner.
I have a 2015 Ford focus with 200,000 miles on it the transmission is giving me a couple issues but man these things are drive so great when they work
Hey Brian, love your vids since 2017.
I respect your efforts :) love it
Glad to see the ultrasonic cleaner coming back! :D
Not sure if the GPU was repasted, but maybe that could've helped lower the temps if had not been done already?
Those RX 480 do appreciate quality thermal past like MX.
I like how you clean up the part
If you need molex power but want the rpm sense, cut the +V on the 3 pin, otherwise you may be shorting the voltage control motherboard header to to full 12V
0:35 Dude got the Matrix in his computer
12:30 how do you get two curves? Is it different for each gpu or is it a new update from afterburner?
In Sweden I sold a OEM system with 16gb memory, i7 2600, gtx 750 ti for 200 US dollars. Basically what I did was, put an ssd in it, gpu and sold it.
Wow quite an amazing salvage
I've got a Rx 480 Strix and it's a small beast, running warzone at 60fps medium-high
Jesus My heart jumped for a second, I just sold my PC on eBay and it was delivered yesterday seeing this PC was similar to what I sold, gave me a heart attack...
Will it be wise to make a gaming and editing pc via x79 with e5 2650 v2 and rx580 graphics in 2022??need an expert suggestions before doing it.
Yes I take the "red neck" approach BUT it looks good 🙂
For a dumpster pc that perform better than the steam deck it's not bad at all. Nicework
Really loved this video.
