How to check ECU problem | No check engine light problem | ECU repair (full troubleshoot and repair)

- This video is about troubleshooting the problem of ECU/ECM of maruti 800 car and also for the check engine light problem.
If the ECU/ECM is faulty then the check engine light will not show any light in the meter cluster and the car will not start with the bad ecu. First of all you need to be sure you have a good battery with 12 volt + and then check all the wires if they are properly connected without any breakdown.
Then make sure your relays are working , swap then to check if they are good , then turn the key to start position and check the voltage coming to the relays as there should be 3 out 4 wires should have voltage on fuel pump relay when the key is at on position .
If you got the voltage then its good if not then that means there could be a wire breakdown or ecu fault, to ensure that check the voltage output from the ECU/ECM on the 2 wires of same color black in red stripe one , both should have 12 volt + in it. if not then the ECU/ECM is faulty.
After going throw all the process if you found out that the ECU/ECM is faulty then make a repair to it or replace ir, then check if it resolve the problem.

can't promise but will try, most of the time you can easily find the fault by either scanning or by simply visibly inspecting the wires

if your car is not starting then maybe , but first check the fuse and relays they also cause this problem , if car is starting perfectly then it may be a fuse bulb
hi i changed 2 ecu because it breaks i dont know why just worked fine for 4 days and than car wont start what do you think is a wire short somewhere !!

Each relay have 4 prongs (wires), right? I thought when the key is turned on power goes to the black/red wire causing a magnetic field that closes the circuit between the black/yellow and black/white. Apparently that's not the case. Can you explain please how the black/white wire gets energized when the key is turned ON?
black/yellow is directly connected to the battery positive , black/white gets power when key turns ON and if ECU is ok then negative supply comes from there and energize the relay which then transfer the power from yellow/black to the black/red . one thing which i said wrong is ECU supply power to black/red , but instead ECU grounds the wire left to the black/white wire to energize the relay

there is a fuse box under the dash to the driver side door and if you follow wires from there you will see the OBD port right under the steering , if you still want me to make a video on its location let me know

sorry sir i don't have any shop , you should try near your local area , there should be a ECM repair shop , otherwise better to get a 2nd hand replacement because new part cost 8 to 10k and available online

Hi sai can you please help me here.. while going on the road all of sudden the car stopped and even the display lights everything shutdowns.. so put the car side and mechanic came and checked ..saw the fuse which is present neat steering side was gone..
So we need to change. That.. so he changed that.. nd started . The car started .but all of sudded smoke came from the car ballet.. I guess it might be near dynamo... then the mechanic removed connection from dyanomo..nd said to take this car to garage .. so for time being he has made the change.. now in the garage .. they have checked dyanamo it is good. In condition . But the car did not started .. they have removed all the wires and replaced few of them..nd were saying see. Might be shot circuit with the wires.. but the issues still exist and finally they see the ECU is the problem and replaced it ..nd said old one cannot be repaired
But what I am not knowing is the exact problem.. was the ecu .. cant we repair the ecu..

@@RameshKumar-dy2ez first of all whenever the fuse blown in any car its because of either the short circuit or the over load of that particular line , one can tell by simply check for what that fuse is used for , like accessory , fan, ac, etc , as you tolled after replacing the fuse smoke comes out well that shouldn't be happened instead the fuse should be blown again, the mechanic must have used more amp fuse or attached wires to it and that leads to the smoke and some times fry the ecu too , you mention smoke from alternator side , it could be anything according to different model of a car and when the car was started after that new fuse was installed , the damage is already being made to ecu or wires , about ECU repair it depend upon how badly its being fried , have they showed you the fried parts?? ECU is like motherboard and it is repairable if only some components are fried , plus the charges may goes from min 5000 to 10 k + , ECU are very expensive , but if they have checked it and then said its not repairable then you have no other choice and replace it
@@SAIREPAIR thank u so much sai for your response..it is tata indica car the ecu was really good ..from outer side.i dont see.any kind of patches.. not sure If it can damage inside.. .. which they said it is fault and replacing would be high.. so they have got one 2nd hand ecu which costed 6000 rs.. .nd once done .they called me to test while testing the car ..there were 2 this that were showing on display one was ..some kind of coiling symbol and other was setting symbol.. so they said it would go off after we ride for some time...I drived almost 5 km .. but it did not go.and also one more sound was comming from realay .. they said the sound could be of faulty relay... but we were not satisfied..nd .. they said the display problem which showed was already earlier so it is not related to starting problem nd ecu..we said can u use the old ECU.. and they said .
If we use the ac would be turned on directly nd few other problems.. but when we replaced the old ECU the car started upon switching on... and also the sound was not coming..now they are saying that ..we will try with other ecu.. nd check... ....can you please tell me . . If the old ecu has a problem it should not atleast start but it started ..with old ecu?.nd also what does ecu is used... .it is only for starting ..correct ??.. if ecu doesn't work properly ..does it direct the ac.??
@@RameshKumar-dy2ez like i said before ECU is like a motherboard in computer , no ECU is not just for starting its the brain of your car and controls everything like fuel pump , injectors , air , spark ,ac, etc , better to find a ECU repair shop they have a ECU check machine and can confirm if it have some problem or not, best to ask for a simple scan when you have plugged the old ECU in the car , after scanning there will be some fault codes which tell all the story , as you said they install the 2nd hand ECU well after installing turn the key to on position and then off for 2-3 times and then start the car , after that you should't have any warning lights ON unless there are some real problems

first check the fuses , then check the relays , then check the wire from ignition coil to distributor , if distributor gets the supply , then make sure to check/ clean the distributor and do check if all the wires from the distributor to the spark plug are ok too , and the connections on distributor are correctly done or nto

ecm is like motherboard of laptop you need to check by supplying volt to it and then one by one check which component is faulty , can't make video on that as i don't have those special equipment to perform such process , if you got a shop near by for repairing ecm then better to go there

i have the exact same problem but the check engine light showing and the negative side of battery terminal becoming hot in seconds,what to do,car not starting at all.Model - maruti 800 mpfi 2004 model. changed the ignitiion coil car started for few seconds then nothing only cranks,
negative side terminal getting hot or both ??
this happens only when there is any rust or corrosion in between the connectors and the terminals , make sure to clean them and check your wires if there is any breakage ,sometimes wires touching the metal surface cause these type of problems , as you say the car is cranking and you have a check engine light that does't mean your ECU is good, but you must check your relays first, then wiring harness and then ECU ,
do you hear the buzzing sound as you turn the key to on position (the sound of priming of fuel pump) if not check the relay then the fuel pump fuse and wiring (video on those topics will be uploaded in the channel but can't say when) hope this helps

you say everything is ok , is the car starting?? , check the relays first if relays ignition coil relay goes bad , even in that condition check engine light not work , but if you mean everything ok by relays and all wiring is good then its definitely the problem of ECU

you have problem with either fuel or air , but may have other problems too like bad sensors , check the air filter and air filter hoses clean or change if required and clean the distributor cap terminals and most importantly check the pressure of petrol coming from the fuel line at fuel injector inlet port and if it good then check / clean fuel injectors one by one , clean the spark plugs and check the condition and adjust there gap
