  • How to create an Azure Virtual Machine (VM)
    In this video, we look at how to create an Azure Virtual Machine. We go on a journey from understanding the fundamentals of a virtual machine to creating your first Virtual Machine in Microsoft Azure. In this demo, we create our Virtual Machine in the Azure Portal. The Azure portal is a browser-based user interface to create Azure resources.

    Really good video thank you mate 👍 fresh to Azure and this really helped! One question (noob) would it be best practice to create a resource group for each virtual machine should you be in a large enterprise environment? Or would that method just get a bit out of hand in the end? Thanks again!

    So I believe since this video was posted, Azure have updated their config requirements surrounding ports. RDP inbound ports are no longer available by default and SSH, HTTP and HTTPS seem to be the only available options. What's the workaround for this?

    So do I understand it correctly, that I don't need a windows server license when I don't check the box at the first page of the vm creation? This way I will kind of rent the license from MS and my price per hour just goes a little up?
    I'm asking because I'm using it privatly to learn about azure and I'm a little bit concerned that MS will charge me later for all the licenses I've used in my test VMs.
    Thank you very much in advance!

    Great video, thank you very much!
    I'm currently learning Azure and I want to use it for personal use (just creating some small Windows & Linux VMs for my Home/Azure Lab).
    Since the pricing and licensing model is confusing to me, I'm a little bit scared to use it.
    I got myself a Pay-as-you-go Subscription. My concern regarding Windows Server 2019 licensing is, that I don't know if I'm allowed to use it as a private person and for personal use. I don't own a Windows 10 or Windows Server 2019 license. So I assume, that when I'm creating a Windows Server 2019 VM, that I just don't tick the box which says that I'm owning a license to use the hybrid benefit and everything should be fine right? So I understood, that if I'm not ticking the box, I'm kind of renting the license and pay a little bit extra per hour.
    could you please tell me if that correct ?
    Thank you very much in advance!

    lets say if you download an app that contains virus like a worm inside Azure VM, is it possible for that virus to go into your Host Computer some how?

  • @peschebichsu
    @peschebichsu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow so well explained and just in time as I'm looking vor a VM. Just one question: at 16:25 you're saying RDP is rather only good for testing... I am basically planning to use the Azure VM as my daily desktop and thought I'd access it via RDA. Is this not a good idea..?

    • @HarryLowtonIT
      @HarryLowtonIT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Siro - Thanks you - glad it was helpful. I mean that mostly for if you are running virtual machines in production at a company you will not want to have RDP exposed to the internet. For companies we recommend using Azure Bastion to secure access. azure.microsoft.com/en-us/services/azure-bastion/

    Is there any reason you would not have a separate resource group per VM?

    • @HarryLowtonIT
      @HarryLowtonIT  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Normally speaking we create a resource group where all the resources contained within the group have the same lifecycle. For an example all the components for a specific application

      If you are hosting it in a cloud provider - azure. AWS and so on then no it does not.
      If you build the VM on your local device (laptop / desktop) with hyper-v, virtual box and so on then it will

    Great video. Nevertheless, at 6:50 the concept of IaaS is not quite right. The vertical label should say "Offered by vendor" instead of "Managed by vendor". IaaS, or Infrastructure-as-a-Service, provides users with access to the underlying infrastructure of a cloud computing environment. This includes the physical hardware, such as servers, storage, and networking equipment, as well as the virtualization software that allows multiple tenants to share these resources.
