I live in Poland and have an online only bank account with debit card only and it is completely free of charge. My only subscribtion is for a email service without adds but it is a small sum once a year.
And you know what the saddest part is, people are to lazy to look at their bank statements and see what their money is getting spent on. I think this is a big problem with online banking and paperless statement, people take that for granted and never go online to check their stuff. Checking my statements is a weekly habit for me, as is paying off my credit cards and seeing how much I have for next week.
I don’t think it’s so much of laziness that people don’t check their bank and credit card statements. I think it’s denial of not having extra money in there for spending. Or their credit card balance keeps going up bc people are only paying the minimum so it doesn’t even make a dent. And they don’t want to be reminded just exactly how much they’re in debt the reason why they won’t check it. I love checking our online bank accts, it gives me thrill and dopamine hit when I see our savings going up and makes me want to continue saving and less spending. Very blessed to still be able to do that and no credit card debt.
me too. Whether I'm a college student with 67 dollars in my account or now in my late 40s with so much in there I need to pull some into interest bearing accounts, I'm gonna check those balances at least weekly and monitor them closely.
I really enjoy the xm radio in my car but not enough to pay the current rate. I call every year to get the price lowered. It is annoying to have to call every year but so worth it. I pay $4.99 a month for that service. Well worth it to me at $4.99 but not at $21.99. If they won’t lower it to keep it this price I will cancel it but so far three years in and they have kept the lower premium.
Ok, In Canada though, when it comes to cellphone plans, we're giving our money to one of the "Big Three", anyway. Rogers owns Fido, and Freedom mobile, I think. Telus owns Koodo, Bell owns Virgin mobile, so... That being said, I switched to Fido, a year ago, because of a fantastic deal. The only downside, they're not on 5G yet.
We Canadians pay more for cellphone and internet service than just about everywhere. South Koreans, for example pay about a third of what we pay ang get better service.
Great video! My CCs have no yearly charge! I call to complain all the time to the cell company, cable and any CC charges! They always wave it! Just threaten to go somewhere else!
I have this saying that I tell people!!! “Everything that’s good for you is free” !! See we live in such of a consumerism world that we feel the need to just buy food or random things for no reason… you can workout/ run that’s free you can get your knowledge up by checking out books from the library that’s free!! There soooooi much stuff that you can do to better yourself as a person that don’t require money!!! Especially with buying clothes 😭 once you start looking better physically you can literally go to Ross and buy a 10 shirt and it’ll look good, why? Because its the person who’s wearing it….AND THAT MY FRINDS IS HOW YOU SAVE MONEY…
What you've said is 100% true for small businesses also. We build and fix websites and most of our clients are subscribed to multiple domain / hosting / business subscription services they don't use or need at all. Sometimes spending just an hour each year going through all of the line items can lead to a savings of thousands!
This video finally shamed me into switching my car insurance. It took multiple calls and some learning and research, but very worth it. I was spending 3000 a year (my coverage was really high). Now I spend 1700 a year for reduced coverage but I barely drive anywhere, I've never had to make a claim in 10 years. This is 100% the biggest way I can save money.

$129 in annual fee? I’m in shock! Once I decided to call to cancel my card due to the $10 annual fee, and they offered to permanently cancel that fee if I agree to keep the card. Said ok, they even thanked me for giving them a chance. I have not used the card in more than a year, but I don’t pay anything for it either
Great advice and motivation ! We are living in times that every penny counts. Most credit card companies here in the USA do not charge an annual fee, especially when you have good credit.
Transferring a balance from one credit card to another is not free. Promotional APR,s are for future purchases for a determined amount of time set by the issuing CC company. Balance transfers will cost a percentage of the total amount transferred. Be sure to read the fine print of your CC agreement before making any balance transfers.

Some online subscription companies make you jump through hoops to unsubscribe. One service in particular is too lazy to beef up their security to disallow hackers to reopen your account once you unsubscribe. I was charged for a month’s service after I unsubscribed.

I had a rather premium internet subscription for about 20 years. Then we bought the appartment and I took just a cheap basic internet subscription there for half the price... then I asked my son if he noticed a difference... there was no difference... so I took the same basic internet subscription here in our house too... saves 30 euro per month. It's like I've been going grocery shopping with a semi-truck ...
My brother got unhappy that I not willing to continue subscription we share with other cousins. His reasoning is it is only about $40/year. I had to explain to him, I had been paying the past 3 years when I am not even using at all. Why should I waste even 1 cent paying for things I do not even use at all? Sometimes in life, there are those decision one just need to muster the will to do it once and you could be free from it's shackle for a long time.
I just got the renewal notice for my homeowners insurance and it’s gone up over $100 a year, but I’m not even going to try to change because I live in California insurance companies are leaving California. People are having their insurance canceled left and right and can’t find a new company so I’m afraid to even try to leave the company I’ve been with for many years.
Nicole in the vain of the insurance. Here in UK we have three or four mobile phone network companies, but many companies that pay to share their masts. The companies that own the masts charge more than the companies that pay them to share. So before your sim deal expires get a 30 day sim from one of the lesser companies to check the call quality and user experience. Porting a phone number is nothing special
A lot of this is stuff that I do, eliminating fees, subscriptions, etc, and my friends think I am so over the top about it. I don't care. I would rather save money. Fortunately my partner is on top of this too. He recently changed our internet provider and cut the bill from 93 to 50 dollars per month. The service is the exact same. I call myself "lazy" because I spend a lot of my free time wrapped in a plush blanket reading library books. But it's after I've worked all day, exercised, kept up with household chores. Best type of lazy IMO!
There are Shubb capos, and there are capo shaped objects. The Shubb costs a *lot* more than what you have on your headstock, but it will outlive you and work much better.
i agree with your points! it's best to make it a habit to keep a spreadsheet of all expenses in and out so you know where your money goes! sometimes, subscriptions do help me to save money :P for example, i used to be an online shopping addict. ever since i subscribed to TH-cam premium, i spend more time watching shows than browsing shopping platforms. in the end, i realized i actually did not buy anything online for the whole month!
Every november, I look at my health insurance (it's obligated by law to have one, here in the Netherlands) and every year, I hear what the new average health insurance costs, and every year we are below that number. I hear so many friends and family just staying with the same company because it's easy or they choose extra options like fysio or dentist because they think they need it (but often it's cheaper to pay out of pocket, than to pay like €30 to €60 a month extra for the chance you might need a €100 treatment). Of course, if you know you need something and it's cheaper to put it in insurance, go ahead. But there is a running joke that no one ever uses all the fysio appointments they ensured for.
This video made me feel pretty good cuz I do almost none of these things. I go out to eat once in a great while and it's primarily to socialize as I cook every night. I still feel broke though!

What Financial Guru David Bach calls "The Latte' Factor". Most Americans have HUGE Latte' factors. I imagine plenty of Canadians do too. those little expenses that most people just don't even think about can literally keep a person broke their entire life. Starbucks, cigarettes, monthly manicures, subscription services, lottery tickets, restaurant food, etc. etc. the list is endless of things we either totally waste our money on or way overspend.
The one thing I would urge a bit of caution about is the insurance company you work with. Some are notoriously good at making it virtually impossible to get money from a claim. Do some research to see if you might be sending your admittedly smaller check into a black hole
The same thing happened to me with car insurance. I called them before I canceled and asked why they were raising my monthly rate by 11 dollars. They said because the average cost of repairs etc in my area was going up. Eventhough my driving record is perfect. Insurance is such a scam but I switched to another provider since it's a law to have it 🙃 At least I got my $11 a month back.
I once called my internet company to mildly complain about how the same service was now advertised cheaper than what i paid monthly and the customer service girl decided to wave the cost of the entire month to keep me happy. She made some weird mistake and ALL the following months came at 0,00$ and i only had to pay the CRTC tax of about 0,40$, which i did. It went on like this for over a year. Sometimes i look up at the stars and think of her.
This is a great video! I have a video editor subscription that is 35 a month I have not used it in a month. I also have a internet bill that should be 30 a month rather than 60 a month but I am too lazy to call. I think it also stems from depression. Also phone call anxiety.

I live in Poland and have an online only bank account with debit card only and it is completely free of charge. My only subscribtion is for a email service without adds but it is a small sum once a year.
Next stop 100k club. Good job. Ty B
Thanks Nicole.
@@lovingsunshine3515 It's definitely that too, for some people. Denial is a very potent drug.... Out of sight, out of mind.
I just love Nicole! She's unique!
This was such a good reminder ❤ like for real. I will put this video to my monthly "loop" reminder playlist
GREAT VID!! Truth telling!
Great video! My CCs have no yearly charge! I call to complain all the time to the cell company, cable and any CC charges! They always wave it! Just threaten to go somewhere else!
Calling the CC company to waive a fee is actually a great idea! I hadn't thought of that.
Do they even answer the phone ? All I get is the computer automated attendant 🤨
Good luck with that.
Better to write them in the US. You have proof you asked and you have what they say in writing as they're supposed to respond.
I like the chip on your shoulder. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing.
thank you. yes, you have motivated me.
Lots of good info from video and comments.
This is a great video - a great public service. Seriously. Well done.
I love your videos! They make my Sunday ❤. We cook almost daily and eat out maybe once a week. It has saved tons of money as we are a large family.
Larry Ellison, co-founder and CEO of Oracle, in the late 1990s and early 2000s began exploring the concept of delivering software over the internet, precursor to SaaS. And thus endless subscriptions for everything.
Advice I needed to hear thank you
I have never had an accident in my vehicle but my insurance for liability goes up $2 per month to the point where now I am paying 94.00 a month 4 liability plus I have never had a ticket
I nearly choked on my coffee when Nicole said that her one job acted like they were doing her a huge favor by paying her $11 an hour for her to be their B@@@@! I think we are feel that way regardless of circumstances 😂
Mood! lol.
I just love your logic and the way you got me interested
I don't think that using the Big Jeff Lebowski as a role model helps one in life, but it is a zen buddhist way to live even though it does not tend to make one a millionaire; the happiness points are priceless.
I don't know if 'lazy' is the best term. 'Lack of self-discipline' sounds as a more precise term. But I fully agree with your points!!
Omg Nicole, you are so right! I never considered myself lazy, but I did sign up for audible, which was supposed to be free for a month. You guessed, they charged me within a couple of days. I just haven’t got around to calling them.
2:47 that lamp looks fimilar
Some online subscription companies make you jump through hoops to unsubscribe. One service in particular is too lazy to beef up their security to disallow hackers to reopen your account once you unsubscribe. I was charged for a month’s service after I unsubscribed.
I never signed up for streaming services. In the long run sticking to physical media has saved me a small fortune.
@@Lonovavir The hacker made me wary so I haven't since then. My public library has a few streaming services patrons can use for free.
Nice post!
Also all these streaming services and stuff like that like let them GO!!! People don’t realize they spend almost 70$ a month on just subscriptions 🤦♂️ phones toooooo why get a brand new phone like bruh if the one you got is working just keep that one…I know people who pay almost 200$!!!! For their phone service and it’s ridiculous you shouldn’t be paying more than 60$
Switched car insurance and saved. Also canceled some unused subscriptions. Also did a balance transfer and I’m making sure to have it all paid off before the interest kicks in.
These tips are amazing
Hello! There is an opposite case. I am usually lazy to buy staff. When I am overwhelmed by crowds in Shopping Centre or tired or whatever…
Keep up the great content❤
Nicole is right. Damn, she is right!! 😊
5:50 I have my own description for this behaviour. "Piling up the dwarfs". One dwarf, second dwarf, third dwarf....at the end, you have a giant.
Get a requote from your existing insurance company. My renewal quote was $925, when I requote it dropped to $615. Same company.
Watch your back Nicole. Cooperate Canada will be mad! Good job 👍
i agree with your points! it's best to make it a habit to keep a spreadsheet of all expenses in and out so you know where your money goes! sometimes, subscriptions do help me to save money :P for example, i used to be an online shopping addict. ever since i subscribed to TH-cam premium, i spend more time watching shows than browsing shopping platforms. in the end, i realized i actually did not buy anything online for the whole month!
Nicole can you do a video on if a car is a money saver or a money waster. I'm having some trouble deciding. Would really love your opinion
Already did a few months ago. It’s called “This is why you can’t save money”
A number of years ago my bank waived all my fees
Why do they waive the fee on credit cards when you ask?
Hey Nicole, I just remembered the video you posted that you put a journal up on Amazon. I'm wondering if we can get an update on how it's going!
Nicole, I love your videos. You are no nonsense and I like this. I am merging into veganism after watching your video where you mention you are vegan.
As someone facing homelessness after being injured and unable to work I would just love the privilege of some lazy spending. Living frugal by force sucks.
I only pay for Spotify and membership in my weightlifting club. Got no debt, a car payed for in cash, no mortage, cheap rent. Investing 700 usd a month,
and just slowly building my wealth with what I got.
If you don't want to change a service, often just bringing the details of a better offer from a competitor is enough to make them match the better offer, ask for customer retention department.
I was paying $15 a month for an old AOL account for several years without realizing it. (I started tracking my bank statements carefully after that.)
Nicole, I'm extremely impressed by your poise & pragmatic approach to life. You show great profundity & are always eloquent. You present each well-thought-out topic in a cogent manner. Additionally, your quips & hilarious video clips are especially comical. This is why I look forward to your Sunday videos. Writing this was time well spent.
What you mean she is both cheap and takin advantage of her good luck..... We can't use the info. in our own conditions are not right!!! F this stuff I need the right conditions first!!!
@donaldlyons17 you make a valid point. I do think that some luck plays a role in someone's success.
@@Missy-Missy1111 I would say that with factors one can't control yeah the situation is not as simple as some of these TH-camrs make it seem!!!!
Your so right. The more we make the lazier we get.
This year I changed my cell phone carrier to one of those companies that rent out the same cell phone towers.
Excited to save on my monthly bill now
I think I'm going to set a reminder to watch this quarterly. :)
So true - I work for a minimum wage company with selfish narcissistic management wouldn't care if you died doing the job as long as money came in.
I do that job to help my business when things are quiet and I can take on people to give them work as well
What Financial Guru David Bach calls "The Latte' Factor".
Recently saved over $800 a year on my car insurance, and I got better coverage than I previously had lol
If they tried to exploit my laziness it would cost them money. Im basically Scrooge McDuck.😂 I dont buy anything.
I once called my internet company to mildly complain about how the same service was now advertised cheaper than what i paid monthly
and the customer service girl decided to wave the cost of the entire month to keep me happy.
If it makes you feel any better the CS rep probably doesn’t want to talk to you anymore than you want to talk to them.
….or maybe that makes you feel worse. Oh well.
You aren't too "depressed" to write a comment, but you are too "depressed" to make a phone call????
