‘Part of country life for decades’: Toyota axes LandCruiser 70 Series V8

- Sky News host Caleb Bond says Toyota joins the green movement as it axes the LandCruiser 70 Series V8 model.
“Anyone who knows anything about off-roading or who has spent any time in the bush will know the popularity of the 70 Series Landcruiser,” Mr Bond said.
“It has been a somewhat ubiquitous part of country Australian life for decades … Toyota has decided to go soft in the name of the environment … why are they dumping such a wildly popular product? Well, ‘community expectations’ apparently.”
Maybe they should think about banning SUVs for hypocrite, inner city, leftists!
But some far left activists have been slashing tyres of SUVs too. They willing to go to jail for this
We're regional and our next vehicle will be a SUV for a number of reasons.
Arguably one of ours is already a 4wd SUV and gets used as such.
Thanks to bonehead Bowen.
Another one to add to Labors legacy and we will not forget it.
Bowen is the worst politician to ever exist in Australia.
WTF Nope, thank Toyota for creating the VD engine. It's freaking V8 + DIESEL, a horrible combination.

Toyota got a new president in April 2023: Koji Sato. He’s of the thought that Toyota cars need to be made fun, different. As an example, their cars have started cutting down cylinders and making up for the difference with turbos. For example, they started selling Carollas with 3 cylinders, but added turbo, here in Canada. Comprehend; it gets cold in Canada and they chose to remove a cylinder. The turbo won’t even matter if the car doesn’t start up. Anyhow, this decision is on par. Toyota might be in for a ride with their new president. PS. Hello to all you Aussies! Love you guys. Keep it coming Sky News.

Sales:
90% = V8
10% = 1HZ (detuned, 60% of the power)
This sales comparison would be more relevant if they sold the 2.8L for a few more years before dropping the V8. The new 2.8L literally performs better, it’s just not as repairable or noisy. Long term, most fleets will want an auto box and better fuel economy, Toyota know what they’re doing, and I don’t think it’s a “reducing emissions” decision.
1:29 and not one of these Toyotas are V8. Toyotas tough engines were always 4cyl and 6cyl ,you're making a lot of noise over absolutely nothing. Ever heard of the 22R Caleb ? Didnt think so. The toughest engine Toyota made and guess what it is a 4 cylinder that powered Hilux for 20 years . Stick to what you know because it aint Toyotas.
And the 22r would tow 3.5 tonne like a slug. Look, nothing against 4 bangers, but you’ll never convince me the Hilux 4 will still be chugging along with 500,000k’s after towing heavy for years, unlike uncountable numbers of the V8 that are. All this will do is drive larger numbers of customers to the Yank tanks. With Toyota launching the Tundra here, maybe this is part of the plan.
The v8 is a boat anchor in stock form. Compare that to the 2.8 4 cyl engine it craps all over the sluggish v8. Landcruiser was a 4 cyl then went 6 cyl . So loosing the boat anchor is a step in the right direction.
Which motor will still be running in 400 000 km time?

The toughness is no less present in the new 2.8l engine variant as has been demonstrated by many die hard owners via their TH-cam reviews etc. in fact the V8 out towed and performed the V8 in all testing except for low range, 1st speed crawl due to lower engine compression. Toyota have been dominating for many decades and I don’t think they are about to put a foot wrong now.
Because ppl are more interested in led lights and tech. They mistake a car for a laptop
Hence why they buy Chinese shit boxes
Toyota could at least replaced the V8 with the 300 series V6. with option of automatic transmission or manual gearbox. Still plenty of room in the engine bay, just reposition the engine blocks. Would have a lot more practicality that a 4 cylinder automatic 2.8 motor.
Toyota should of developed another Inline 6cyl with mild hybrid. Get rid of all the parasitic engine belt accessories. The only accessory being a massive alternator / hybrid assist motor. Quite sure someone at Toyota already has a CAD file for that.

Its the law ffs.
once everyone goes to EV the emission restrictions will be dropped right? bring back the v8!!
Except for this V8, Diesel V8s can go away.
So what about the reason that Toyota had to warrant so many of these new v8 engines because of excessive oil consumption from new ? They even went to go so far as a cover up and release a technical bulletin saying that this consumption was normal. In fact the specified engine oil for that engine had to be so thin to raise the fuel economy and power numbers but in turn make it an oil guzzler. Can't just re specify a new oil viscosity because that would then mess up the advertised specs and all emission data that made it comply with epa and government standards. What other option was there ?
Its a shame its come to this, THE LC70 series is iconic.

Guys, the Land Cruiser 70 series ISN'T going away. And it's also not like they are swapping the V8 out for some EV or even PHEV version.
