i own a Hedgehog myself, this makes me sad, look how small the enclosures are you should usually use a cage that is 3 times as big as these ones. And that is for only 1 hedgehog

That's why the one hedgehog was running back and forth and swaying side to side. Little dude lost his marbles from never having a place to hide. I've seen captive anteaters do the same thing. Solitary animals need tons of private alone time and these hedgehogs ain't getting it.

When they run back and forth endlessly, that means they are having serious psychological issues. Hedgehogs need a place to hide or they will always be on guard which is not good for them mentally. Pine chips alone is not good enough, they need a dark hiding spot.

I have a hedgehog named Morty, one of the things that I learned when doing research was that hedgehogs shouldn’t be picked up with thick gloves like that because it completely blocks your scent and freaks them out. It is better to take a wash cloth or small towel and hold them instead or best with your bare hands although their quills are uncomfortable. Also I’m not surprised you got pooped on because hedgehogs are notorious for pooping a lot. I know when I first got Morty as a baby he would use the restroom every time I tried to handle him. It is better now that he is a year old and has a bit more control.
Riley Sal yeah he’s gotten quite larger I think he might be done growing though but I don’t know for sure. you have to be mindful of their diet though because they can be prone to obesity and that can shorten their lifespan. That’s why you can’t feed them too much mealworms because of that and put them on high quality cat food that is low in fat and good in protein. “Hedgehog food” that they sell in pet stores are very unhealthy for them and full of junk and often have little to none of the things they need in their diet.
