When visiting the Efteling as a kid, my parents would always take food and drinks from home to have a picnic in the park (we would always go in summer). This is still my favorite for a day at the Efteling. It is also cheaper (yes, I am Dutch! ). The best snack to buy and eat there are poffertjes, as they fit in the old Dutch fairytale theme. And fries, do not forget about fries!
Mine too, and cans of Fanta and Cola from home ..... Champagne -Pils from 3Es as well. I really lliked the horseback riding (I am not fond of all the rollercoasters and stuff). Also the pond with all the big carps in it and the electric cars.
@@niekbouma1319 My mother used to bring lemonade (ranja), growing older this changed into white wine (Pinot Grigio). And after leaving the Efteling we went to a nice restaurant sitting next to a motorway. We never bought anything from these Efteling foodstands. And that is why our family is still in good health.
Lahmacun or Turkish Pizza is a very common lunch snack haha. You can get them at pretty much every Turkish bakery, and they're even available in supermarkets (though you have to add the toppings yourself if you buy from a supermarket)
Also, like many things, you shouldn't get it at the supermarket. Very far from the real thing, at least the ones from the freezer. Those are very chewy, not soft like they should be (with a crispy crust). Well actually, If you do get them from the supermarket, get the refrigerated ones (brand Merhaba) which are actually really good for store-bought ones. I prefer warming them up in a pan instead of the oven, with a little bit of olive oil but it also works without it. Put it on high heat, flip it and keep moving it so it doesn't stick to the pan. Throw some lettuce, onion, tomato and whatever you like on there. Don't forget cheese (I love the soft round goat cheeses from the supermarket on there) and some garlic sauce, preferably freshly made. Some hot sauce if you like spicy and enjoy! Just to be clear, none if this is remotely the same as lahmacun you would get in Turkey. They mostly put some salad and parsley on there and some freshly squeezed lemon juice. Both taste amazing, just very different obviously.
@@B-Meister idk about the store-bought ones, but I do know when making lahmacun by hand that you should absolutely never put oil in the pan. Use flour to prevent them from sticking instead. From the few times I've used the store-bought ones I agree they're a bit too chewy. Personally I like to put raw red cabbage, iceberg lettuce, tomato, and a little bit of red onion on them, as well as garlic sauce and hot sauce ^^
Nice to see you enjoyed the efteling, its not too far from where we live actually, about our favorite food... probably our own sandwiches.. Dutch people bring their own food to the park usually :) Go see the town Den Bosch and enjoy one of the great restaurants there (or stop by Eethen and be our guests). And check out the small medieval town Heusden too which is near Den Bosch.
I would definitely suggest one of the summer evening openings. The park will be open until real late and usually they will have special evenings with live music on all the "squares ". It is to bad you missed the haunted castle, to took it down 4th of September last year. But do look up some fantastic footage on TH-cam, it used to be my favourite attraction.
When you go again you really need to go to the final Ravelijn show of the day with the Medieval feast at the end. It's a great experience for dinner at the park. Next to that, go to the pancake restaurant for lunch. The interior has a great Efteling flavor. You'll need to make reservations for both, but imo they are the best Efteling food experience of the park.
Turkish pizza is great and the good news for you is that it is actually not unique at all-in NL😊, you can get them everywhere, including bigger train stations!
I have recently discovered your channel. The videos and editing are great and its nice that you are doing different things not just the touristy stuff.
I am from the Netherlands, next time go in the summer. Currently they are doing a lot of maintenance due to fact they didn’t do that during Corona. Definitely come back in the summer of 2024 they wil have a new hotel and a new themed area. That will give a better picture of the park
I am just amazed to see how much you guys eat on 1 day haha XD. I love the Efteling. I go there at least once a year with family. We usually eat at the Italian restaurant. Also funny the things you guys eat, I don't but I love the poffertjes a lot.
As true cheap Dutch people we'd bring our own krentenbollen-met-kaas from home! The only thing I remember having had there are waffles topped with warm cherries in winter time. Those were awesome!
Love the Efteling, my favourite snack is “suikerspin” aka candy floss, it’s just something that makes my day complete when going to the Efteling 😊 also the way to eat poffertjes , for me, is with just butter and sugar..
You two are hilarious! Dutch weather is mostly drizzle, so this was actually a genuine experience 😂 I'm just curious whether there were any alcohol beverage options there at all? Or is it only snacks
@@buncharted As far as I can remember, you can get alcoholic drinks (beer and wine) at Station de Oost and Fabula restaurant. And maybe some other sit-down places with self service.
You can get a beer at most places in the park. Not sure about wine. For stronger drinks you need to go the hotels. But you are aloud to bring you own food and drinks to the park. My backpack is always filled with beer and food. When you go twice a month it saves a lot money.
I’ve been to Efteling dozens of times. My parents have taken me there when I was still very young, I’ve visited with friends when I was still a teenager (public transport is great for that too!) and as an adult I first visited with friends and later took my son to give him a similar experience as I had as a kid. Favorite snack: always Dutch or Belgian fries. Especially now I’m living in the USA, I really miss good fries. BTW: the weather in California is a lot better the last couple of days. 72F / 22C today. I don’t miss the Dutch rain 😉
Not sure but with the Turkish pizza, does that zoom in count as foodporn? 😂😂 I would love to see you at one of the Dutch festivals like Pinkpop or lowlands. Food tour would be fun there.
I don't know if it was open when you visited but you should trie out the pancake restaurant there. It's one of the best themed dinyng earia's in Efteling in my opinion. Not a big fan of pancakes but they got a nice selection from sweet to savior.
I literally subscribed right before you said you were disappointing people and asked for a sub. 😂 Love this video! Just found out about this place and I’m now obsessed and want to go!
Insiders tip: always take the kids menu in efteling. It is the best value for money and you get a free souvenir. At the poffertje it is a plate. We collect those, they are our breakfast plates.
You guys should really visit Efteling in sumer times so much better in my honest opinion. Other than that a great video keep up the great work👍 En nog een prettige dag toegewenst😊
This is a nice food tour! Something about pronouncing "chocomel": it sounds more like "shock-oh-mel", so without the "tsj" at the start of the word. That also holds for "chocola" (chocolate) and other words starting with ch. It is a bit hard to describe, but hey, Dutch isn't easy at all. I am happy to see you try and do your best on that part :) About the Efteling food: I think it is quite OK for an amusement park, but I don't think that it is really something special. You don't go to Efteling for the food, a lot of things you can get somewhere outside the park as well. You can get a kipcorn and kroket at a random "cafetaria" or "snackbar", and the Turkish pizza is quite common at Turkish cafetarias and bakeries. The pizza is delicious, but just not "uniquely Efteling". Only the chocomel-banana-drink, I have never seen that one before anywhere. And I think that Efteling has a lot of different options, that is what makes the food good. I really enjoy visiting the park each time, the fantasy atmosphere and theming never get old. I think all the food is good, I don't really have a favourite. With children, you can never go wrong with poffertjes and pancakes, be it for lunch or dinner.
A year later and the prices are up there unfortunately. I have an annual pass and i live 10 min away. My favorite thing is probably the fish and chips near the Halve Maen (t schip). And of course the kroket but that is not special at all..
Looks like an all around fun theme park. Had to wince a bit watching your first video, because working a theme park in that type of weather isn't fun. But those kind of days are the best ones to enjoy a park without lines and crowds. That Turkish pizza looks lekker. As for theme park food, I would like vegetarian-friendly snacks. Give me a high quality pretzel with various dipping sauces. Popcorn options. While the smell of funnel cakes was tiresome when I worked on the Scandanavian section (yes, we even wore weird costumes) back in the 1980s, I would love that for a snack now. So give me sweets and baked snacks. It would also be good to have some healthy options, like fruit smoothies and vegetables that aren't all fried. I do prefer onion rings to fries.
@@buncharted Every sit-down restaurant has at least a couple of vegetarian and/or vegan options and I believe the smaller ones are getting more and more as well
For me, as the parent that had to show up, were the prices. You don't feel ripped off as you do when visiting any of the Disney parks. PS We're you to visit again, avoid mid June to half August, that is when the schools in NL have their holidays.
Actually, summer isn't that bad, if it's all about families visiting... the worst moment to go is April/May I think... When whole schools "dump" their kids in the park the ratio of kids that do not listen and "adults" trying to stop from chaos to ensue and keeping the kids inline is waaaay out of whack, thinks groups of 20+ kids per adult trying to maintain order (yeah right, good luck) Those are Schoolreisjes (Schooltrips) to unwind at the end of a schoolyear, and there are many schools that take their kids to the park so they get to experience it at least once in their lives (Schooltrips get discounts, like with groceries etc. buying in bulk lowers the prices) If you don't mind screaming kids that refuse to listen and can be annoying as h*ll, you can still go and try to enjoy... If you don't like previously mentioned "issues" I suggest you look at the calendar on either the Efteling site or in their app where it shows the price of admission for that day and the color indicates how busy they think the park will be, and avoid the days that color darker The app provides all info needed, inside it gets more helpful functions, but even outside the park it still tells you, what open or closed, times of shows, opening times etc. "With (a) great ̶p̶o̶w̶e̶r̶ App, comes ̶g̶r̶e̶a̶t̶ ̶r̶e̶s̶p̶o̶n̶s̶i̶b̶i̶l̶i̶t̶y̶ smart usage"😉
