Visited Efteling for the first time at the end of October 2023. Coming from the UK, I confirm that no British theme park comes close to what The Efteling has. What an amazing place, can’t wait to go back again.
@@H1SCOTTY What most people forget is the time of writing the stories. Grimm and Anderson told stories to warn. Bit like 'don't touch fire', and, what they couldn't have known because they just didn't have the science figured out yet. But that has other consequences too, most Americans are shocked to see a bra-less mermaid, whereas that is perfectly reasonable in Europe. Oh well, call it culturel differences.
Glad you enjoyed it! However, one of the best things about Efteling is the nature and landscaping, with all the beautiful greenery and flowers. There's also a TON of construction going on this year. Can definitely recommend going in summer and preferably after the Grand Hotel and new spooky area and ride, Danse Macabre, is completed.
Fun fact. Efteling opened before Disneyland. Walt Disney learned about it's construction and also about the fairy tale park in Copenhagen's Tivoli Park (Hans Christian Andersen was from Denmark) and then decided to create Disneyland!
The Efteling is definitely not the only amusement park in the Netherlands. There are quite a few of them like Walibi, Duinrell, Slagharen and Toverland. If you like rollercoasters then Walibi might be the better option, but if you also enjoy darkrides the Efteling is not just one of the best in the Netherlands, but also in all of Europe
So good to see you at the Efteling park! The most amazing park from my childhood. It's all about fairytales and family. Also in the Bosrijk and Loonsche Land park cottages and hotels.Amazing feeling. It goes way back into the 1950's. It's all about magic. Just to be, once, in a magic like fairytale forest place.... For me it was (because we could not afford it once more). Please remember that, when you go trhough the park. It's not a thrill seeking park like ALL things are roaler coaster stuff. Of course, there ARE some surprises! Please come back in spring or summer with some weather that's pretty cool ... to say the least! Blue skies, sun. I'm not kidding! It's real! Or not, depending on the day. It can be rainy. Sorry, but the weather can be, sometimes, unpredictable. Please check the local weather app. Some better views and experiences in spring and summer times, but also: longer lines. Well, hope to see you soon!
I was at the Efteling as well last week! Crazy that I could've bummed into you guys since I've been following the channel for a while now (And yes, I was one of those people that stayed in the ride to go for another round right away ;) ). As for my favorite themepark it is Europapark (located in Germany). It's about a 4-6 hour drive from NL depending on where you're from and it's amazing. The theme of the park is (as the name suggest) countries in Europe, so it's a perfect way to get familiar with many different countries. Something great about it (aside from the awesome rides and general theming of the park) is that every "country" within the park serves the food that is known from that real country (poffertjes in NL, pizza in Italy, tapas in Spain, you name it). So if you haven't been yet I would highly recommend!
The Efteling park is really great, it is so nice to see you enjoy it :) I think that all the small theming details in the park make it my favorite park by far. Despite the weather, you chose a great day to go to the park, because normal lines take 30-60 minutes depending on the ride. Symbolica and Baron 1898 are always really busy. I expect the new attraction called "Danse Macabre" will be epic when it is done, and I also expect it to have really long lines... Looking forward to part 2!
Efteling is one of the best parks in Europe so it's definitely the best park in The Netherlands, hands down. It is said Walt Disney himself came to check out the park while he was in The Netherlands in what, the 60s? Though it hasn't been confirmed. Efteling's quality indoor rides give a lot of Disney rides a run for their money. Other Dutch theme parks that come to mind are Walibi Holland, perhaps Drievliet... the latter being quite small and located not far from Rotterdam. I can also recommend Bobbejaanland just across the border in Belgium. Great fun. Still would like to go to Europapark in Germany or Energylandia in Poland.
I think you've visited the nicest park in The Netherlands, hopefully you will have sunny weather next time! Best theme park in Europe for me is Europa Park in Germany, it's a bit of a travel, but definitely worth it! Have fun, love your videos!

I've never heard of this park before, but it looks amazing. (Gonna add it to my Geoguessr theme park map). I managed rides at a theme park in the Midwest during the 1980s, so I will be watching your videos and digging into the park. They have a really good website with some helpful videos for disabled visitors. That carrousel suite is poggers. I managed a carrousel ride for several summers at a Midwest theme park, so I appreciate the aesthetic. Spent many hours polishing brass poles. Hmm, that should be turned into one of those cozy games. The size of that room!
Please go on a nice warm Summer day next time. Expect much longer lines then (ofcours), but the park and atmosphere is soooooooo much nicer with all the trees and flowers! Just enjoy the nature, atmosphere and food if you don't like standing in long lines and you'll still have a blast!

We’re passholders at The Efteling and we’re loving coming to the Efteling every time! Glad you’re liked it too!
Nice to see you guess visited the Efteling. The fairy tales Forrest is the oldest attraction but in the first couple of decades there were also playgrounds, sports fields and even a large swimming pool. Did you know you can visit Baron 1898 without riding the coaster? Even the preshow is worth visiting when the park isn’t crowded.

We’re Annual passholders with special interest in the history of the park. Another park to visit for one day (especially during Halloween): Toverland!
I absolutely LOVE the Efteling! My favourite ride is De Vliegende Hollander. Have you been in it? I love the historic atmosphere and the whole experience, even with specific scents. Even standing in line is part of the ride, because it's like you're in a museum or something.
Lots of child-like laughter and zaniness here... meaning one of your best videos ever! That room is crazy, can't wait to see what dinner has in store. Oh, since you asked my wife and I have only been to Apenheul, which is really a zoo, a free range zoo than a "theme park" ... still worthy of an adventure.
It's not the best season to visit the Efteling due to many maintenance happening atm, and the 2 building pits for a new hotel near the entrance and the replacement of the old Spookslot --> Danse Macabre (both a ghost story but it's going from a walkthrough to an actual ride system) the area will be (re)themed along with it keeping the creepy atmosphere Efteling always has the aim to make it feel nostalgic, you can see that at the soon to open store/restroom near Danse Macabre's build pit it looks old, weathered and crooked etc. as if it's 100+ years old, but it's newly build ... yeah, there was a lot of construction (you’ll see more of it in the next video), but that’s okay - we will definitely be back! and maybe we’ll get to stay at the new grand hotel next time 😄
The older part of the Efteling remains my favorite. It is family friendly, so the rides aren't too intense though. But very few parks can match the Efteling for its amount of love and detail. The carnival to my mind is an hideous example of stereotyping, but it has a strong local relation. If anything could be removed to make space for a new thing, that would be it. My favorite ride was/is the "Spookslot", not a ride, but a walk with a diorama type theatre that would display a ghost story on the music of "Dance Macabre". That was so excellently choreographed. But I heard they wanted to replace it because of low attendance numbers. Two days isn't quite enough anyway,.. try again late summer on a rainy day. Chances are that by the time you get there, the weather cleared up and everyone else stayed home.
Spookslot was mainly removed because the building just wasn't up to scratch anymore, so they chose to replace it with something better! Its now being replaced by danse macabre! And yes the music is staying, even better the new attractions focus is even more on the music. The story as far as we know now is based around the orchestra that played the piece which mysteriously vanished near a old monastery. Efteling has now posted 2 making offs and a few blog post revealing parts of the new attractions!
I'm so glad you went! I always love it there! But the lines are usually really long bc I've only gone on good days😅. I love droomvlucht too! It's the first ride we ever visit when there!
Efteling is the best theme park of the Netherlands, but Walibi Flevo is alsof fun. I live nearby Efteling and had an annual pass as a kid. I watched Efteling changed over the years.
OMG I have been to Efteling so many times. I have to say that I like the Winter Efteling the most. Our eldest daughter performed at the entrance and later in the musical De Sprookjesprokkelaar (she is acrobat). We went to see quite often and also visited the park.
Toverland in the Netherlands, Phantasialand and Europa park (can’t choose) in Germany are the best in Europe. I love the Efteling when I am with kids, I don’t feel it is a park most adults and especially teenagers will appreciate much. (As I have found out a few years ago when going there with a 15 year old) Efteling is great for families, including grand parents. And for kids until the age of 12-13 max. However people that are really into theme parks should appreciate the high level quality and history attached to this park. Just look at the steam carrousel, fairy tale forest and the fact it has a museum. I feel Toverland has the potential to in time get close to the Efteling, they just need more high quality dark rides. But they do have a great thrill ride setup. The Efteling has one MAJOR advantage, very loyal visitors who love to take their (grand)children to get the same experience they had when they were little. You have to keep this in mind when visiting as foreigners, that the Efteling has a very special place in many hearts of Dutch people. If you purely look at the rides, than you can get a wrong image of the park. They tend to be highly themed but short, and less thrilling on purpose.
The Efteling is not Disney. That’s for sure. How the Efteling came to be is also different from Disney. The Efteling was in de beginning just a small park with just 10 fairytales, playground, swimming pool and tennis courts in 1952. The real heart of the park is from Anton Pieck and Peter Reijnders. Anton Pieck made drawings how is should look and Peter Reijnders brought them to life. Sleeping beauty has been breathing from the start predating anything in the Disney Parks. The Efteling pushes what is possible with attractions. A lot of attractions where first of it’s type and development together with the Efteling. The Efteling is not just Grimm. They use fairytales and legends from multiple writers. They tend to stay closer to the source material then Disney which is why it’s a bit darker. The Efteling does not work with external investors or stockholders. Everything in the park has been paid with money brought in by the visitors. The budget of the Efteling is also a lot smaller than Disney. Persistent rumor is that Walt Disney visited the Efteling prior to the announcement of Disneyland. What is true is that the imagineers of Disney visit the Efteling a lot. The designers of Efteling visit Disney.
Efteling is the park to go... There is also Walibi in Flevoland (Biddinghuizen) is great but it is a quite standard joyrides park. There is also Attraction park Slagharen but it is more targeted to the younger crowd I guess.
Hi there, Efteling is my favorite one, I live nearby. I have great memories as a child and as a adult. There's is a exhibition about de Efteling in the Noord-Brabants Museum in Den Bosch.
First it was a playground with slides and seasaw then there came a swimming pool and then came Sprookjedbos (fairytale forest) by Anton Pieck. Should think that would be in the museum (something i never knew they had, I know there’s a exposition in the Noord-Brabant museum about Efteling. My favourite theme park will always be Efteling.
I’m curious if you’re just booked this themed room or is it sponsored content? It looks expensive and a bit claustrophobic because of the lowered roof.
we booked it! i wish efteling sponsored this video 😆 the ceiling was about the same height as most hotel rooms. it definitely didn't feel claustrophobic. and the room rate was pretty reasonable considering it included breakfast and two days at the park! plus, great content for the vlog 😄
I actually like the Efteling over Disney land more sometimes. It's the little details that matter. And I think Disney is more about the brand than it is focusing on the fairy tale stories. It lacks a heart.
I recommend bringing your own food if you ever go for a single day since the food options there are very overpriced. Especially would recommend eating your food on the gondoletta
De Efteling, duhhhh. 😂 l have a subscription to the Efteling and live a 10 minute busride from it. Lucky me. Gonna go again when the winter Efteling starts. That starts tomorrow, so very soon🥰
My favorite in the Netherlands is Efteling, in the USA it’s Disney World Orlando. I also like Warner Brothers Movie World in Bottrop-Kirchhellen in Germany.
Efteling is my favorite themepark. My favorite ride is Droomvlucht, with Villa Volta a slose second. My favorite fairytale is Indische waterlelies, My favorite coaster is Vogelrok.
Hi guys, great video! I saw a comment earlier mentioning that the park is supposed to be 'Grimm.' not Disney. It seemed that you interpreted this as 'gloomy,' but Grimm (capitalized) is actually referring to the German Grimm brothers: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_Grimm
If there are any other themeparks in The Netherlands, who cares. Efteling for ever. Did you know that the artist who designed the Sprookjesbos (Anton Pieck) would regularly visit the building site. As he wanted a certain atmosphere and the builders were working to neat he would give them some jenever to drink so they would work less neat being slightly tipsy.
Don't know if it's true, but another rumour that Anton Pieck ordered the builders to work lefthanded if they where righthanded and vice versa. To ensure that their work wouldn't be to neat and would ensure an authentic old feel to the buildings. (Same with the jenever story: 2 jenevers before work)
Efteling is definately our favorite. I've been to Disney Paris, but didn't like it at all. It just misses that Efteling magic and it's way too expensive. Being Dutch I must have visited like a dozen times by now. But two of my favorite times was when my parents invited the whole family over to celebrate their wedding anniversary. First time (40 years anniversary) they book us (me, hubby and two small kids at the time) in the circus room. It had a trapeze which played music and a huge bubble bath (my kids could swim in it) with a bubble machine mounted next to it. It was so much fun! for their 50th they rented a 12 people villa in Bosrijk and it was just so cosy and wonderfull there. Other favorites of ours not in the Netherlands, but easy to travel to are Legoland Billund and Nigloland France (that's the park where we always close of our French camping vacations before heading back home)
that's amazing! i'm really hoping that grand hotel that's opening in 2024 has some of those experential rooms too... for us, our room was almost as fun as the park itself :)
There's a madame Tussauds in Amsterdam, very touristy place though. As for aquariums. We got a dolphin/orca park called 'Dolfinarium' in Harderwijk. And some of the zoos also have more fish-oriented aquariums, some you can walk under or be surrounded by it. (The zoo in Emmen for instance, they also have seals and polar bears). There's also a rescue/recovery park for seals in Pieterburen that has a visitors center and tours I think.
@@buncharted Next time, go to other parts like Windsor, Kent, Essex, Surrey, Hertfordshire! Next time do some theme parks over here like in Surrey-Chessington-World of Adventures/Thorpe Park etc..... What did you do in London, Buckingham Palace/Tower of London, London Dungeon, see a West End show?? 🙂
we definitely want to! we’ve been thinking about renting a camper van and driving through all of great britain at some point… it happened to be the weekend when the queen was lying in state, so we had to avoid the main part of london. we stayed in east london and ate lots of amazing food instead 😋

I was in the Efteling on a rainy day and we went to ride the python and a bunch of schoolkids also did and after every ride they went AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN so the operator wouldn't let us out 😂 2nd time was fun, 3rd time okay but I was sooooooo freaking done after the 6th!! time. It started to rain so bad lol and the operator was like byeee and he just waved at us with a big smile when he sent us out there again 😂 it was kinda traumatic 😅
Never visit Efteling after winter holidays. There's too much in maintenance and the weather is never nice. The flora is not blooming and the winter edition decoration is gone. Luckily for you, it was 2023 and not this year because the whole of Ruigrijk is in maintenance, and much more. They, they the Efteling management, have the audacity to ask full price income for what can only be described as a build yard momentarily. If you go back, wait till 2025 and pick a specific themed period like summer holidays or winter holidays.
You can visit plenty of other themeparks. Biggest ones are either Efteling or Walibi. Apart from that Duinrel near The Hague, Avonturenpark Hellendoorn near Overijssel, or what you think about Ponypark Slagharen or Plopsaland Coevorden? Last three are more catered to little children though. Walibi and Efteling can be for children and adolescents alike.

You guys are funny, enjoy the video👏👏👏👏👏👏👏❤
You guys ought to check out the art work of the original designer of the Efteling : Anton Pieck. I guess there is a lot to be found online.
Efteling is the best theme park of the Netherlands, but Walibi Flevo is alsof fun. I live nearby Efteling and had an annual pass as a kid. I watched Efteling changed over the years.
Idd love to see you 2 experience Castlefest!
At 41, I still enjoy de Efteling. 😊
My Favourite theme park is always EFTELING 🎉 and Toverland near Sevenum these 2 are the best in the whole of Europe in my opinion
OMG I have been to Efteling so many times. I have to say that I like the Winter Efteling the most.
Our eldest daughter performed at the entrance and later in the musical De Sprookjesprokkelaar (she is acrobat). We went to see quite often and also visited the park.
that’s awesome!
Toverland in the Netherlands, Phantasialand and Europa park (can’t choose) in Germany are the best in Europe. I love the Efteling when I am with kids, I don’t feel it is a park most adults and especially teenagers will appreciate much. (As I have found out a few years ago when going there with a 15 year old)
Efteling is great for families, including grand parents.
I like the Efteling as nostalgia fun, and like to go to six flags Biddinghuizen during the “Lowlands” festival 😊 last weekend of August (I think)
Efteling is the park to go... There is also Walibi in Flevoland (Biddinghuizen) is great but it is a quite standard joyrides park. There is also Attraction park Slagharen but it is more targeted to the younger crowd I guess.
The Efteling is amazing, too bad about the weather.
Next time spring or summer 😅
omg! i love the color of your jacket!
Hi there, Efteling is my favorite one, I live nearby. I have great memories as a child and as a adult. There's is a exhibition about de Efteling in the Noord-Brabants Museum in Den Bosch.
ah, cool! we’ll have to check it out :)
It looks expensive and a bit claustrophobic because of the lowered roof.
we booked it! i wish efteling sponsored this video 😆
the ceiling was about the same height as most hotel rooms. it definitely didn't feel claustrophobic. and the room rate was pretty reasonable considering it included breakfast and two days at the park! plus, great content for the vlog 😄
I also like Warner Brothers Movie World in Bottrop-Kirchhellen in Germany.
have you been to disneyland paris? i know it’s smaller than orlando, but curious how it compares
Efteling is my favorite themepark. My favorite ride is Droomvlucht, with Villa Volta a slose second. My favorite fairytale is Indische waterlelies, My favorite coaster is Vogelrok.
vogel rok was so much fun!!
Same as in den Bosch,go during summer ❤❤❤❤
Couple off years ago you had a jacuzzi in the middle of the carousel suite 😁
REALLY???
Yeah no joke
even I havent gone there yet, and i am BORN here! (my parents are too cheap for it lol)
Hi guys, great video! I saw a comment earlier mentioning that the park is supposed to be 'Grimm.' not Disney. It seemed that you interpreted this as 'gloomy,' but Grimm (capitalized) is actually referring to the German Grimm brothers: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_Grimm
ah, yeah - grimm is dark though, especially compared to disney :)
and thank you!!
The bathroom is probably not themed because of regulations :-s Glad you enjoyed the Efteling though!
You should go in the summerrrrrrrrrrrr
It originally started as just a playground
De Efteling, just like THE Netherlands...
If there are any other themeparks in The Netherlands, who cares. Efteling for ever. Did you know that the artist who designed the Sprookjesbos (Anton Pieck) would regularly visit the building site. As he wanted a certain atmosphere and the builders were working to neat he would give them some jenever to drink so they would work less neat being slightly tipsy.
that’s amazing
Don't know if it's true, but another rumour that Anton Pieck ordered the builders to work lefthanded if they where righthanded and vice versa. To ensure that their work wouldn't be to neat and would ensure an authentic old feel to the buildings. (Same with the jenever story: 2 jenevers before work)
That is also true
I myself I'm partial to wax museums and aquariums. Are there any in the Netherlands...? 🤔
"The Ocean" in Burger's Zoo in Arnhem is damn impressive. And they have a huge indoor rainforest and desert as well.
As much as I love Efteling, Iwould of said go in the Spring/Summer!
I'm from the UK-England, you ever been?
just to london :)
we definitely want to! we’ve been thinking about renting a camper van and driving through all of great britain at some point…
it happened to be the weekend when the queen was lying in state, so we had to avoid the main part of london. we stayed in east london and ate lots of amazing food instead 😋
@@buncharted I see you have Instagram/Tik Tok which have neither!
Do you have an email address/Twitter page I could send you links of places to visit??
Yea either get a camper van or just hire a car or just take public transport! 😃
instagram is best - we don’t check the other stuff all that often 😅
Tokyo Disney Sea in Japan, is my favorite Theme Park.
yeah, we mention it in our video on saturday. that’s one of our favorites too!
do you pay for rides in efteling
Or just the entry
Ty
just the entry and food!
Efteling ftw
Story goes, that Walt Disney visited de Efteling to get inspiration and advice for his parks
Omg that rocking horse is so creepy! 😂
😂😂😂
i loved pony park slagharen when i was jong
I love your video, btw I am Dutch living in Breda. :-) The photos were a ripp off.
i guess you didn't see the carousel the first day, it's opposite the poffertjes restaurant...
we did - i have like 5 shots of it but none of them made the final cut in the video 🙃
Is 3 days too many?
i think two days at efteling is plenty!
Its not getting better than the efteling but the other ones are worth checking out certainly when you have kids. Next to this the walibi fright night during Halloween is kind of cool but that's mostly because horror figures will stalk you and you have haunted houses 😂👻.
De Efteling is zeker niet het enige park in nederland. mijn top 5 parken in europa zijn 1. Toverland in nederland 2. Efteling in nederland 3. Europapark in duitsland 4. Port avontura in spanje 5. disneyland parijs
I was in the Efteling on a rainy day and we went to ride the python and a bunch of schoolkids also did and after every ride they went AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN so the operator wouldn't let us out 😂 2nd time was fun, 3rd time okay but I was sooooooo freaking done after the 6th!! time. It started to rain so bad lol and the operator was like byeee and he just waved at us with a big smile when he sent us out there again 😂 it was kinda traumatic 😅
hahaha
yes, there definitely is “too much of a good thing” sometimes 😄
So sad that it rained the whole time! :(
but we got on every ride with no wait!!!
Anton Pieck ❤
This may not be the best time to visit Efteling, since they planned big renovations and building projects this period
Right to go ride the stalion
🐴
😉😊
Your Room was Carousel themed. So you did not do all rides. You should recognized It.
Futuroscope france
That hotel room is horrible! 😊
horribly awesome 😄
Come back in 2025
ok :)
😑
