"to much words in short times" as french man, it's really fluent actually, it's the normal speaking speed for us.

yeah, but this shouldn't be speaking, it's supposed to be a song.
And my French is limited, but don't all those words boil down to "Here I am, I'm singing"?

@@pirimpallopirimpalli4932 It's a typical type of french song. : " Chanson à texte" or a story song if i can translate like that. It's really like an edith piaf or Jacques brel who spoke way more faster than that. The aim is not to be fashion or trendy, it s just to share a story full of emotion. And all the talent of this artist is : with this" chanson a texte " she manage to spread her Emotions, symbolisism of great talent. If you really want to figure out the story u can see the translation, but the most important is to feel the music. I don't t need to understand "vivo per lei" per exemple to enjoy and feel the music

I had read the whole text, the explanation about the chanson genre makes it make a little more sense, but frankly I wasn't so impressed. Especially after I saw the video, sorry, it looks like a Simpsons caricature of a French videoclip.

I think all of his confusion is due to him not understanding the lyrics at all. The tempo increases near the end because she’s breaking free from her past full of insecurity and abuse, owning who she is and accepting her perceived shortcomings as something that people will just have to deal with. I think the end is actually perfectly fitting for the meaning of the song.

    • @AriodanteITA

Yes. my French is not great (there are a couple of words i still struggle to understand) but if you catch the lyrics it definitely makes some (more) sense (even if it remains a bit too much maybe)... and a friend of mine - who doesn't understand french - had the same impression on the ending....
I loved the song. it was definitely one of my top faves.
Perfectly in the style of the french "chanteuse" tradition....
Maybe the song would have needed some nice high note - in the style of a Céline Dion, to make an example - it would have been great

@@AriodanteITA yes, exactly! My French isn’t perfect either, but good enough to understand this song. And you’re right, this style is also part of the French chanson tradition, which this dude called a “ballad” at the start of the video 🥴

As a french I think that the lyrics explains well better the song. The lyrics tells declares who she is with humility. One of the expression that is great is "se mettre à nu" it's a metaphor to say that she shows her True self and nothing else, nor clothes or accessoires to embellish herself, only who she is. She is herself and wants the love toward her True self. That explains the Journey of the song : getting more and more louder as she proclaims her identity, when you here the claps going with the lyrics it's People cheering and loving her for who she is. The "Voilà" is used greatly because it is user to say " As simple as that". She is as simple as described. The brutal end is as simple as her lyrics because (in my opinion) she doesn't need to embellish it. Her song will stay how raw she wants it to be because she is raw in her lyrics for exemple : "Regardez moi, ou du moins ce qu'il en reste
Regardez moi, avant que je me déteste
Quoi vous dire, que les lèvres d'une autre ne vous diront pas
C'est peu de chose mais moi tout ce que j'ai je le dépose là" Translated rawfully to : "Look at me,or at least what is left of me. Look at me before I hate myself. What to tell you that another won't tell ? It is a little but all I have I will put it here [I the song]". As aLitterature student, I would love to see Eurovision have subtitles because I know you have the rythm you can have as many staccato as you want or as many high notes, what touches me are also the lyrics. The music carries the lyrics and the lyrics also carries the music. As someone who usually isn't friends with many, this song touches my soul because it isn't only about a singer wanting a public. It is a song about accepting someone. However I know why the song sounded strange to you, it is a lyrics driven song. So as a foreign it isn't that adapted to you.Sorry for the essay and my English, I'm writing this at 4AM.

It's text-book French cafe style. An unashamed, melancholic and yet life affirming outpouring - a character crying out to be accepted for what and who they are - with all one's faults, one's passions and one's hopes and desires. The crescendo leading to an abrupt stop works perfectly - because that's how life is.

Not my cup of tea, but i can appreciate the artistic nature of it. She's not only using music, but a lot of visual effects too ( her gestures, the lights and shadows, etc. ). I think that the main problem is that the song is too short.
If you recall, Pull Me Under by Dream Theater also has an abrupt ending, you can use that sometimes. But DT built that song for 8 minutes, while this one has only 3. Maybe with 2 more minutes to add more instruments in an escalated way ( first the piano, then the strings, then the choir, then more intruments, etc. ) you can feel the build up some more before the end. With only 3 minutes, this feels rushed. Not that is a bad thing, we both recognize there is talent here and there will be people that love it, maybe that's just how it feels for us. We made you listen to too much prog and now short songs are not enough hahaha!
PS: I was about to remind you to react to Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers The Kaleidoscope, BUT there's a band that came up with a new song just last week and it's AMAZING, and maybe you want to react to it while it's still fresh. Lord of the Lost - Priest. You have the official video in the Napalm Records channel, you'll find it immediately. So IF you want to do that one, then Ne Obliviscaris can wait. But just this time lol.
Keep up the good work, Mike!

3/4 has 3 groups of 2 (so there’s an overall feel of 3) whereas 6/8 has 2 groups of 3 (so an overall feeling of 2).

What is wierd to me :
    - The Italian rock band won with a performance of a great mix of very conventional ingredients of rock standards (which is somewhat a non sense for the Rock spirit).
    - Apart from that, the second winner Barbara is the true rocker of the évent IMO. I mean she brings an unusual and unconventional content to an evermore globalizing domain (cultural, multimedia show, main stream broadcasted évents). Secondly, as a french, what is less rock in Voilà : the style (performance style between chant and parlé) is quite frequent in French folk local music, and the core style of the song borrows very much of the older iconic Édith PIAF. Anyway, Barbara does a great and successful job to refresh public's ears with incontournable pièce of French culture.
Voilà is anyway and intrinsicly a Masterpiece as a song in songwriter style, Barbara is giving to people a tour of French culture, a self introduction, her art, and a view of the French mindset and lifestyle : a culture wide obsessional self centric introspection, identity issue, self acceptance, acceptance by autrui, natural way/simplicity/transparency. The paradox is that many things in the French universe are all but simple and intuitive. Just look at the complexity of the œuvre of Barbara...
This is the charm of French culture !

I’m sure her music will be greatly appreciated long after this competition. I was touched by the song for sure.

As much as I like French music, I don't like this song. It just sounds like something I've been hearing since I was a little girl (although a song like this could have been written in the 50-ies or even 40-ies). Barbara is an amazing singer and the concept behind this song is nice, but it does nothing for me.

  • @liepsnose

This piece looks like a tribute to Edith Piaf and her style of singing. I would agree with other comments that you should evaluate this piece from the perspective of a whole because it's not an instrumental piece only. Usually in any thoughtful songs the lyrics influence the melody, tempo and rhytm. We hear it, understand it or just feel it uncounsciously when we understand the language. That's my personal motivation to learn some french, german and russian... :)

Well I am french so what I am going to say is not patriot at all :/ The song is quite okay and yes singing in the traditional way, but the performence is too much, the lyrics are quite poor and Damn stop trying to imitate Edith Piaf ! The voice of Barbara Pravi is nice but she is not a voice singer and she sing a song made for a powerful vocal, I think there is a problem here.

I love the song but I also feel the end could be more rounded. However, this song will stand out because of that unfinished feel. Almost inviting televoters to want to hear it again. (jury votes are in the bag, surely)

@@zepoissondu4510 I had already checked out the lyrics and the translation way back when it was released. My concern was for the casual viewer on the night. However, it appears that they, and the juries, got the gist anyway. On another year 499 would have easily been enough. I want to feel sorry for Barbara, but I shouldn't. I suspect she will become a big star while Maneskin may gradually fade into oblivion.

Music is nice but her ending is really strange. she didnt hit the notes many many times especially in the end. She lacks charisma so when she is compared to Edit Piaf it is an offence to Edit Piaf. I cant listen to it though i love french national music. This one is by far not the best, other singers with strong voices and memorable music didnt get much votes. The video with national election didnt get a lot of views, so her 2 place is odd. But thats eurovision so okay. Anyway🤪
