Baling Our Test Plot Hay - Using the Farm Maxx Mini Round Baler and the Kubota L3200

Today we rake and bale our test plot hay! The methods we have used this year in our test plot hay field have produced excellent results! We will carry what we have found to be effective in this small test field to our larger hay fields for excellent production. In a few days we will measure our harvested hay and compare the output to the acreage it came off of and also the quality (which is top quality we already seen). I got my baler rake and mower, I've baled about 450 bales so far this year. Hoping for a second cutting in mid September. Baler is working good, had a few minor issues. Mower s not cutting as clean as I think it should.

my personal experiences with small farm equipment is nothing works flawless right "out of the box" it seems, farmers are a smart lot, and usually can modify a few things to make it fit their needs. Sounds like youre on the right track.

What is the order of operation of stopping the tractor when the alarm goes off to tie off and eject the bale? Your tractor is gear drive like mine and i wondered how to stop the tractor but have the pto in operation for the baler. Thank you.

It was a learning curve with a non-live pto tractor. When the alarm sounds (twine arms falls to begin the twine wrap sequence), I push the clutch to stop, shift into neutral and let the clutch back out. The pto comes back live and the baler will twine wrap. Once the wrap is finished, eject the bale, clutch and shift back into forward gear, let the clutch out and continue on. A lot going on in a short amount of time but after doing this sequence awhile, I found I can do all this shifting rather fast. Hope this helps…and thanks for watching!

@@8thdaychronicles yes thank you. I went with a gear drive tractor due to hate hearing the whine of the hydraulic pump. It was also a bit cheaper since they weren't as popular.

If my memory serves me correctly, the second cutting of that test plot last year (in the video) we weighed those bales and they averaged 54#, average weight between the 6 of them. It appears to be a good baler for a small farm. Just wondering about how many bales you have made with it, and if you have had any breakdowns or issues.

Our tractor is not a "live pto" model and that fact presented a few obstacles we had to learn to overcome when the baler started the twine-wrap process. We went over that issue in the video review of the baler. There is a couple things about the baler in its factory state that worked but I preferred a different method (drawbar build, twine holder) that we modified to fit our own preferences. We have not made 1,000's of bales yet but sure hope to as we own it longer and for more seasons and believe the baler is capable of that.

I don't think the pick up is adjusted low enough, it is missing as much as it picks up.
