    I think what Pete said about the frequencies is correct because low frequencies tend to move more air and chuff more through the ports than the high frequencies do so the overall performance in the end is not to scale.

      @@keatonjones6115 hehe the efficiency is also brutal, I just run my two from a 75 watt per channel amp and it's plenty, and I've just got some cheapo 15" drivers in them! :) if I use the amplifiers full potential, it hurts my internal organs to stand Infront of them C:
      Yes, I definitely think they'll Win! But they will suffer on the really deep low end, since they can't really reproduce anything below 40hz with any decent efficiency. But I still think the average will be so extremely high that they'll win! :D
      You're a lifesaver, now I finally get to see impedance curves and everything of a W-bin! I've always wondered how they look like, my amplifier runs extremely hot when driving them, so I suspect the impedance is very low all the time which is honestly perfect:)

Im trying to get a box for 2 12s tuned to like 28 Hz but they are always tuned 32 or even 35. Anyone know of any quality boxes out there tuned to even 30? Even Gately only tunes down to 32.

      Remember that Pete is responding to the question as to whether or not a subwoofer enclosure can be scaled up. He answered correctly in saying no. A more correct answer would be no, unless the frequencies were also scaled which is exactly what Sam is doing. He's scaling both the enclosures and the frequencies together.

    • @barevids
      @barevids  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I promise you buddy that this all scales perfectly. I made sure to do plenty of research before starting this.

    • @chrishuyler3580
      @chrishuyler3580 ปีที่แล้ว

      Since we are scaling the frequencies as well, and the results are falling in line with common knowledge of their full-size counterparts, I am going to assume Pete did not actually watch a full introduction to this test before making his assessment. It's a fun series and I enjoy your analysis of the impedance curve and harmonics. It's all stuff DIYers/Hobbyists spend a lot of time "modeling" but very little time actually building and testing in a controlled environment.

    have you thought about using an electric motor with a rotational converter (like an engine piston) that way you can put huge power into the motor and for cheaaaaap! unlike regular high power woofers

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว

      It would certainly improve efficiency since normal speakers are only about 1% efficient. The downside is how would you be able to quickly transition between different frequencies? Like if you had a bass tone that was alternating between 20 40 60 20... Most electric motors are not able to speed up and slow down very quickly.

    • @KClO3
      @KClO3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JasonWW2000 it would use a 3 phase brushless motor optimally, it would be limited to some non complex bass lines though but I'm sure it would be worth it

    • @JasonWW2000
      @JasonWW2000 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KClO3 Also, how would you control the volume? Sometimes the cone needs to move very little and sometimes a lot. Motor speed would control the frequency, but you need an adjustable stroke for the volume.
      I remember a sub that used an electric motor. Look up the Phoenix Gold Cyclone. Its a rotary sub.
      There's also the Thigpen Rotary Woofer which is like a fan.
      Neither design could better the conventional subwoofer. As inefficient as current subs are, they are affordable, can deliver low distortion bass and play a wide frequency range.

    How are you taking the average? Are you just doing the mean of the decibel number or are you converting to powers of 10 and taking the logarithm of the mean log(mean(10^dB/10))? (E.g. mean of 60 dB and 0 dB is 30 dB, but power based mean is around 57 dB.)
