It’s a shame more people aren’t seeing these videos. Absolutely beautiful, you should edit all your videos into a documentary, I’d buy that in a minute, might be a good way to fund more exploration, just a thought.

Hey Brian thanks for sharing can you explain quickly in the comment section how these were formed and how long ago. I’m going to share your video with my friends just would like them to have a quick lesson, thank you.

Hi Bruce, So helictite formations are my favorites as they dont follow the usual rules of gravity and are pretty chaotic. It is my understanding, that when the cave was dry (this cave has been dry 4 times over the last 350,000 years), calcite laden water drips from the ceiling creating stalactites and stalagmintes (vertical formations). When conditions are right, helictites can form due to microbes on the crystal surface. Apparently, the microbes are trying to grow in move in a certain direction, either due to a certain gas or temperature (no one really knows why), but they take the calcite saturated water with them as they move to their new positions. The saturated water then deposits the calcite in the new location, essentially defying gravity and oddly shaped crystal formations are created. Hope this helps!!

Brian, your videos are amazing and your channel is terribly undervalued. Can you briefly explain why this was an open circuit dive instead of a rebreather dive? I’m not a diver and I do not know anything about this cave, depth etc.
