I absolutely LOVE this scene! I saw this movie a few decades after it was made and instantly became a fan of Shirley MacLaine!
At the time I couldn’t figure out why this movie was so underrated! It was years later after I saw it before I realized the Charity role was originated by Gwen Verdon who was a huge star on broadway! I had never heard of her…. but the crazy thing is most of the dance moves and styles in this scene are from her! I still love Shirley’s portrayal of course but sad how Gwen wasn’t cast in this movie version!
And I think that’s why the movie didn’t do well because too many ppl compared the two performers whereas I had no comparison and thought Shirley’s performance was pure magic! Who knew 🤷🏾‍♀️
