'To everybody who are telling us we can't do it' - definitely DON'T listen to them. We had a lot of people telling us the same with the Mog and look where we are now. So keep pushing guys, you're doing awesome!
I’m 16 and I’ve nearly finished a rebuild on my 1977 Fj45. when I started I had very little knowledge about cars and I’ve now learnt so much. I can’t wait to see what you do with the cruiser
if you guy's continue recording with this level of detail, guiding viewer through whole restoration, it's going to be such an amazing resource + will give a lot of other people confidence to start their own restoration I reckon - just breaking it down to simple steps :) Thanks for all the time and effort you're putting into the video's to take us along for the journey!
Hi Guys, loving the rebuild. Just two things. Always undo the nut not the bolt when loosening them that will reduce broken bolts and secondly get Megan some overalls or work cloths. Otherwise well done.
Nothing like an old LandCruiser they are good trucks I had a old FJ 55 best ever. It would probably pay to get the fibreglass roof you can also get bonnets aswell just putting it out there good work guys
Original bar plus get some ziplock bags for nuts and bolts your gunna run out of storage with the containers you have...trust me I’ve just done a shorty 40 resto . Keep up the good work you will not regret at the end result
Get the sterl roof repaired, it will bind the whole cab together structual integreity of the cab will be a lot healthier than a fiberglass replacement. Also hope your considering putting a diesel back into it, look at an 1hdfte from a 100 series or even a 4jj isuzu. My 2 cents worth
Cheers for the tips Stuart. We have ordered a fibreglass one for now but will be keeping the steel one it was just going to be be way to much to fix and way out of our skill set it will be put in storage for now and when another one pops up I’ll be straight onto it! As for the motor would love to convert it but the old man loves his old 350 chev!
great build series!! you should try n get the troopy setup in the background !! this looks ausome!! I find the room lighting is a bit tough to work with n figure out how much time has passed not being daylight lol
nothing like a decent project to get your teeth into guys. Good luck. There's heaps of help on the 40 series landcruisers owners page on facebook, most people are Aussie based.
Looking good guys, if i was closer i would repair the Roof for you, i think you should paint the Bar work and put it all back on, just like your Dad had it but all fresh.
Cheers mate that would have been awesome but we have actually ordered a fibreglass roof. It’s out of my skill set and would take me ages to do. We got a quote for $1500 to fix it.
Such a good series as its something I would love 2 do wit the same mech experience. Check overland travellers for single hoop front bar work (troopie). . . . Looks pretty good
What? You must be crazy to think you can't do this! This rebuild is totally going to be possible for 2 super folks like you! Hard work 💪 cries after hanging out 1 day with you, you are killing it! Just a bit of negative reversal to let you know you 2 are awesome!
You can do it guys. Won't be easy but you can do it. Might take sometimes but the outcome will make you guys very happy, and proud. Can't wait to see many more episodes about rebuilding this beauty. Wish you guys all the best 👍
Good to see some WA builds on youtube lol, I had a 84 fj, that looked bout the sam condition , unfortunately a mate ended up with it for a damn good price and is now fully restored with a 350 conversion. Good car and the prices of them lately def worth sinking some dollars into, especially considering the conversion is already done. Nice work, looking forward to the updates
A little behind here but I hope you are bagging and tagging fasteners, etc. as you disassemble. Trust me it make like a whole lot easier a few months down the road.
hey guys, good thing with the 40's is they're all bolted together 👍😁, in the workshop tour you didn't show us the coffee machine hahahahhh on the winch - the Thomas was benchmark of winch's in it's day, it's from the same era so good to keep it so it matches the truck, what you have is a 12vt 8000lb worm drive, so no need for a brake - super easy to restore/repair and almost bomb proof - max you might need to do is get the motor rewound and change the oil, looking real good guys. cheers
Is it wrong I think a removable roof would be cool on the fj? Either a fabric one or like a support down the middle and pop out sections. Be cool doing a beach run in the old car with roof off and front window folded down.
Yep! Big ups for this build!! These are awesome videos! This makes people just like you two want to have a crack with their own vehicles and get motivated. Keeeen as for the rest of this build 💯👌🤙
Pay someone to panel best the roof and put some new metal in, I think it would be well worth paying to have the steel one fixed especially considering how much there worth and original!
We have ordered a fibreglass one for now. But keeping the steel one for the future. It was going to cost $1500 plus to fix it so just put it to the side for now and hoping a second hand one pops up in the future. They’re worth a fortune in good condition hey.
Will be good to see this once its done! you guys will be able to fix everything as you will be completing everything yourself! well done guys :) Looking forward to this series!!
Cheers Dennis. Going to have to learn how to weld very soon when it comes to a few body parts that need fixing. That’s going to be an awesome skill to learn.
Megan is such a project manager 😁Your FJ has a wicked stance already. Love its looks while it was sitting outside waiting for the tow truck. TIP: Make sure you take lots of photos before pulling things apart, they you have a reference when putting things back together - paying special attention to all the fasteners/bolts etc. Plus try pre-lubing (ie. WD40) all the nuts and bolts you plan to remove before hand. It could make removing them easier. 👍

Not just with the grinder, impact wrench is even worse IMO. Hearing and eye protection with any power tool IMO. Especially if you're going to use no impact rated sockets/extensions. Probably never happen but guarantee if one does shatter it'll be while you're not wearing glasses.

Love this rebuild you are doing... and had to laugh at Megan saying about bringing her fake flowers... if you need more, my mother has so many in our home that it looks like a fake florist... just give the word and they are yours mate... lol.... honestly though followed your trip around aus as been to many of the places myself, and now love what you are doing to the old landy....

Enjoying this series of vids, keep them coming!
JMxploring don't replace it with a fiberglass roof man get you a flux core welder and patch that for that sheet metal is probably a 1.519MM just tac weld the metal in place get youtube welding certified

Im 16 as well and just got my first car, 1978 HJ45 haha, its in great condition rust wise for its age but definetly needs work

I did one in the mid 80s Sandblasted primed and painted all the bits. Then reassembled it all. Good fun

No sold it for a XF falcon (Bad move)
love that you can just un bolt every panel, great start to built series....hopefully you can repair roof. look forward to more eps

No turning back now. Is that the original colour? I like it.
It is the original colour we love it! Think it’s mustard yellow.
Looks like a fun project and a great crew! Look forward to this series! Great inspiration for when I start my project
Thanks for watching Graham! Hope you enjoy the series!! 😊😊
Love all your work. Looks tougher without the bar. Plus I reckon if possible keep the same colour, including the rust.
Same colour is definitely staying mate!
If it's only that corner rusted on roof, get a metal finisher to fix it.
Use zip lock plastic bags for parts.
Marty from Perth
Thanks for watching Marty!
Great teamwork with you two
Thanks Ian!
I’d personally go for some sort of front bar when you reassemble but it looks heaps better without the cage over the cab.
We are definitely leaning towards no bar work it does look nice!
Do yourself a favour and get a metric set of impact sockets to use with that rattle gun or you’ll bugger those normal sockets
