I watched the Maxxxine sneak peak after a screening of X and i think the studio door opening is a reference to the barn doors opening in the beginning of X and Pearl! loved that callback
Yes! Great call out. I thought it was interesting that it was in a vertical aspect ratio though as opposed to the more square aspect ratio of those films.
Great review! I agree with everything you touched on and especially when you mentioned the giant door opening the film up. It literally gave me chills in the theatre. T.I West knows how to make a moment! Also the scene with the strobe lights in the club while welcome to the pleasure dome was playing was another sublime moment.
I just saw this film last night. I really enjoyed this trilogy and hopefully will see more films from West in this genre. I do think Mia should have been nominated for an Oscar for Pearl. Awesome review, as always. ✌️
I find it fascinating how Mia Goth, (perfect name for a Final Girl BTW) has been in so many epic movies but is always overshadowed by the lead of those movies, and I believe with this trilogy, everyone can finally see in Mia Goth what we always knew: She IS a Star.
I was pretty letdown tbh. Like where is the sex, cocaine, horror energy of the 1980s LA scene? It’s so tame. And the story kinda drags and the twist of who the killer was is so fucking stupid. But Mia Goth kills it as usual. It’s a shame she was wasted on a tame script like this
The order of movie release was X and then Pearl and now Maxxxine. Watching X though will bring you the introduction of Maxxxine. This new movie is a continuation of her story.
You definitely want to see X before watching this. Pearl is optional. I just came back from the theater. there aren't any major references to Pearl in it but there are many flashbacks to X.
Fantastic review as always Perri cannot wait to see MaXXXine one of the most anticipated movies so far. Ti West one of the more talented Upcoming filmmakers love the themes his films tackle.
Views soaked in and appreciated🙏🏽 Will be watching of course, cause the overall components to the movie feel perfect. 1 Only thing I'm apprehensive of is the "killer" being too tropy since being modeled from real life person, no spoiler. Just what I've read in articles.
X was just good enough to continue watching the series - passable movie that copied better movies that proceeded it. Pearl on the other hand was a fantastic movie with a unique directing style and story - a true gem. Story had character development and a stand out performance from Goth. At this point I began really believing in Ty West and he had his star. Maxxxine s. the bed and undid everything and confirmed Pearl was a one off. The antagonist storyline pulled down the third act (and that's putting it lightly) along with not utilizing Goth in a standout way. I barely was able to sit through it in the theater.
As a huge fan of this revamp and Mia Goth, I feel like we are getting the antithesis of Pearl, someone who didn't give up and was given the chance to be a star and was willing to do what it took to become one, but I left the movie just wondering, did this really add anything to the overall franchise. Was Maxine a character we needed to dive into? Maybe Pearl was so strong that I found myself underwhelmed, maybe I'm missing a certain commentary on life, and I found the inclusion of the Night Stalker a bit...boring. Either way 9/10 and Mia Goth is definitely final girl material.
This is my favorite review you get it the trilogy is one big masterpiece maXXXine is perfect i LOVED it mia goth is just a force be to wrecking with yet again another perfect performance by her i cant wait to own it and watch it 37636363 times and just throw it on on a rainy day
Story was really disjointed, plot points were really compelling but put together haphazardly and didn't make sense. Deaths were kinda boring and felt meaningless. Director edited this film should have let someone else do it.

Hey! Random question but how much nudity was in the movie? I’m taking my date to it, hopefully there’s nothing too crazy. Hopefully not a lot of full frontal. lol.

Why are you posting a MaXXXine review when for us normal movie goers it's not even out yet???? I'm scared to watch this because I don't want it spoiled.
Critics have been making reviews of movies before they're out for forever. The idea is to help you understand whether you should see it when it's out. (Spoiler reviews on this channel are clearly marked as spoilers)
@@isabellamorris7902 I think that people should think for themselves and form their own opinions after the viewing experience. I almost always disagree with “critics”. I’d never take their word on whether I’m going to see something or not. The only time to really trust a “critic” is when you find one that you follow that you have almost always agreed with on everything so you trust their taste and judgement. But, I’ve seen toxic fandoms make sure to make the ratings or review seem to look terrible even if it’s not. Same with the critics. Rotten Tomatoes for example. Some things are totally out of whack from a “critics” perspective compared to the general audience. With all that being said, I love this specific channel and value her opinions of movies because we love a lot of the same things, so I know our views align more. I’m also glad that she masterfully reviewed the movie without ruining it. Nothing angers me more than someone who ruins surprises or spoils things. I love the review ❤️
@@MichaelSmiley17 If a movie isn't out on general release yet, I would rather keep an eye out for what others are saying -- if people whose opinions I largely trust say it's worth spending the money to see it, I will. You don't have to blindly trust everything a critic says about a movie -- they're meant to be there to help guide you towards things you might not think to see yourself or away from things with good marketing that turn out to be terrible, but *of course* the decision is yours. And tbh, while I don't trust anyone's recommendation 100%, I would rather trust someone whose job is to watch and care about movies than a committee of marketing execs to show me what I might actually like.
I agree. She’s the reason I’m concerned about del Toro’s Frankenstein. He’s going to pull out something incredible, but she’s the weak link in that casting. Maybe she can pull something unique out.

If there's one thing that Ti West knows, is continuity.

How close is Mia Goth to that first oscar??
Hopefully 1 dramatic role away! ❤️
😂😂
She just needs to be hired by Yorgos, she'll win it.
Not close.
if she keeps doing horror, far away.
I’m already planning a back-to-back of X & Pearl earlier in the day before seeing this!
Love it when you're passionate but backing up the passion with your knowledge of film, especially the spooky!

I just got in from it.... it was amazing.... It’s The Perfect little Dirty 1980s Love Letter to Hollywood and L. A. So well done .....
Awesome Review!! I absolutely looking forward to this movie now more than ever!
Thanks Perri! MaXXXine's one of the few movies I've been excited to watch this summer.
Woo!!!!🎉 super excited!! Thanks P!!

where you get that Night Owls shirt??
Pearl is unlike anything else. I am so excited for this one.
Such an excellent review!
Can't wait for this one!
Mia Goth is unconventional and interesting to watch always.
Hi Perri Nemiroff!!!! 😊
Saw this last night and loved it. Rad shirt, btw.
Love your reviews!❤❤❤
Just watched and I couldn’t agree more with a review , I loved it !!
Glad you liked it! I love your positive energy even for movies I didn’t love like “Maxxxine”
That late night with the devil shirt is so cool. This review made me like the movie even more.
I just saw the movie and it was solid but I felt the last act was pretty bad IMO...
There is a trilogy? I just seen the trailer and fell in love with ost from the trailer. Where do i start with this trilogy?
The order of movie release was X and then Pearl and now Maxxxine. Watching X though will bring you the introduction of Maxxxine. This new movie is a continuation of her story.

I just came back from the theater. there aren't any major references to Pearl in it but there are many flashbacks to X.
"The House Of The Devil" Is also a modern retro 80s aesthetic masterpiece.
Awesome Review! You are the best!

wife and i didn't even know this was the end of a trilogy 😂 we've made plans to sit and watch the previous two
Mia goth and Jenna ortega are the two actresses I like seeing in new horror films.
Hey when are we getting some more FYC?
Loved this movie and planning to see it again in the theater!
Sounds like a movie I’m gonna love. I can’t wait to see it after this review!

I wish there could be a Maxine/Pearl universe movie every year. God would I love that

I’m watching these movies so differently from the others I saw pearl first I’m seeing x this week and maxxine will end the trilogy next week

X & Pearl let me down but MaXXXine was great! Dripping in neon, haunting 80’s everything
maxxxine might've overtaken pearl for my favorite movie in the trilogy. can't wait to watch them all together until the end of time
Like just for that Stephen King omnibus in the back shelf 🎉
west & goth are geniuses❤
I'm excited to see what's next for Goth
Couldn't agree more 👏

There are less sex scenes and nudity in it than X. But there is one scene in it that is particularly gruesome, especially for men. Lol.
@@edwinv196 is it the dick or the balls? lol. Is there full front at any point or no?
The first two were great, this one was close to below average.

Thank God she didn't claim Halsey was a stand out. Why is she in a movie?
I think Halsey is excellent in it
Because she's a lesbian pop star with a large music career.
@@jackchop1576 she’s bi and has a child, plus she has acted before since her last album in 2021 has a film attached to it that she starred in
The 3rd act blows

Yeah but you like the acolyte so.. lol
Mia is probably the most overrated actress at the moment,
Me when I lie
now did you mean overrated or popular because the math isn't mathing
I feel the opposite, she’s underrated. She’s great in everything I’ve seen her in. Loved her in the remake of Suspiria.
trying to be different so bad
