I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your videos. Here I have been looking for solid pieces of wood and missing the fact that smaller pieces can be combined to accomplish incredible work. Thank you, Jim, for all you do. You are not only an inspiration, you are an amazing instructor. R'Amen!
Stunning. I love your comments about how you get wood for your projects. I am relatively new to turning but lucky for me I am already tripping over bowl blank material in the yard. In May of this year we had a tornado rip thru our little town. I was out helping the neighbourhood with my chainsaw and tree climbing skills. In many cases people just gave me the wood for helping them get the sometimes 30 inch diameter black walnut trees off of their roof or car. We have a sawmill at the house so some made it to lumber and other pieces like crotch and burls made it to the bowl blank pile. We have a pressure pot being delivered today so I cannot wait to try it out on a piece like the one you just finished. Keep up the good work. I still plan on dropping by one day to see your shop. cheers
Wow, this is another gorgeous bowl. The pearl red is so delicious looking. Putting it with the apple pieces, then turning this. A dynamic duo. I never thought turning wood with cut off branches, that so many would use in smoking meat. I absolutely love, love this bowl. You walk us through everything. I learned to make stained glass years ago. That is cool. This is amazing. Thank you again for sharing this artistry.
I have two apple trees that have been in my yard since my parents planted them in the 60's. They are in bad shape and I will be taking them down to make something for my kids who grew up eating the apples off these trees. This post was an inspiration, as have a few others as to what I'll do with the trees, especially the smaller limbs.. I've also got a few neat cracks that I think will be awesome filled with gold inside dark blue hypershift epoxy. Thanks, Jim.
@@SpragueWoodturning I'll send you pics of my "journey". I can see light through a knot in the trunk of one of the trees, and that was what caught my eye with this turn. I'm trying to find ways to use less epoxy by using "fillers". Maybe even PVC pipe and fittings.
Oh my God!!!! It's really amazing!!! How do you always manage to leave me open-mouthed?! It's perfect. It's beautiful. It's a joy to behold, you do a wonderful job, even though you say you didn't mean to. If this is how you fails, what will be like when u does something wonderful? Nop. You are an artist, not a craftsman. That attention to detail, being able to impress the one who sees your work is only achieved by artists. Bravo.
Ohh, that pearl red with the apple is just stunning! Really love the patterns both from the pour and the woodgrain, and the shapes they make together. Another gorgeous project, Jim! Love your content.
Love this piece, and as a person who has really no knowledge about wood turning, I appreciate the commentary and your insights and thoughts as you work on it. I also loved that you included in the failures and unexpected challenges you met along the way.
Super cool! I'm a salesman with an electrical supply company; I have 3 customer accounts that are hardwood sawmills. They keep me well supplied with local and exotic hardwood cut-offs but the peices aren't very large. It's a win win though because I'll make a sales call and help them with any equipment they need and they'll give me peices of species I've never heard of. I also have a couple arborist friends and I like to climb trees so I'll help them with jobs and get to keep some good sized logs. My wife got me one of those coffee cup inserts but I haven't decided what to do with it yet. I love the epoxy work you do and I've played with some epoxy inlays, pen blanks, and I've make some epoxy/wood duck calls that look great but I haven't spent the money on any deep cast to try something bigger.
Oh please! I left all my wood turning equipment in Cleveland, Oh. when I moved to Florida in 2001. You are making me really regret that! I loved doing tiny things...the size of your baby finger. Little chairs, etc. Now, watching your beautiful bowls and vases, I'm chomping at the bit to get back to it! Gorgeous work! Bravo!
WOW, that pearl red is just the perfect color, showing the perfect amount of wood!! That was scary, jumping almost off the lathe! Such a beautiful bowl, completely happy with it’s balance! You always get those perfect finishes! Great work!
You make my Friday’s special with your entertaining and beautiful videos. Who knew sticks could be turned into such an amazing bowl. This is definitely one of your best.
I love the effect of the branches in the piece when you ground it down. I love how you say "it's fun to make" when I watch and see how much hard work it is. Just schlepping the bucket to your pressure pot is more than I could manage. Lovely bowl again.
The names I came up with are guardian, heavy boy, tough, caveman, foot crusher , toe bender, and rock'n roll. I hope you saved the pieces for a future project. It turned out fantastic! Beautiful bowl, it will grace which ever table or shelf it sits on.
I love how this bowl looks like a candy apple from the pearl red 💖 if you haven't done anything with the off-cuts that might be a neat project with the tumbler Ben sent
Wow beautiful piece. Brought me back to my youth, my grandfather had an orchard so I started turning apple. I used a treatment for green wood that worked great and have since forgotten the name any help out there would be appreciated. Thanks again Jim.
@@SpragueWoodturning hey Jim, I was searching my shop and found the name of that green wood treatment, it's called Pentacryl. It worked great for me, either treating before or after turning
Amazing piece, Jim. Kind of makes me think of wandering through a cave filled with stalactites and stalagmites and an eerie red glow in the background which you're hoping is just a mad scientist and not a huge pool of lava ready to explode.
@@SpragueWoodturning lol! I don't... I just love it when you receive gifts from viewers and yoy show us how you turn the raw materials into something so cool. 😄
I think you’ve outdone yourself with this one!!!! I love the horizontal lines! And that color is perfect!!! As for the rock, I think you should name it Lennox, after the number one Canadian “heavyweight” champion Lennox Lewis. 🙂
Great job, Jim. I SO enjoy watching you create. As much as I'd love to turn, I know it takes lots of practice and years to approach your skill. Time I don't have. So, I watch you and appreciate your skill.
Wow, wow, wow! What a fabulous bowl!! You made such a good choice with the red for the apple branches. It sorta looks like an apple! Well done, Jim, thank you for sharing!
Another beautiful piece produced by an artisan. It shouldn’t be long before you reach 65,000 subscribers, and you could call your rock Floyd. My Granddaughter suggested it. 🌞
This bowl is another beautiful example of your fine work! When lit from within, it looks like red candles with tips of yellow flames. Congratulations on a job well done!
That is a beautiful rock; looks like a Tiger's head in texture and pattern. Wow. I like this beautiful piece of art you made. Thank you for sharing. I liked your video.
Really loved watching your turning the apple branch bowl! I only got involved with wood working in a 2-D class in school; we were instructed to use “found” wood and I made a scoop out of a branch from our backyard tree. For a school project, by a total amateur, it was good enough to win a cash prize in a junior college art show!
Another beautiful piece! My mom was a leftie. She always said that left handed people are the only ones in their right mind. Lol!
She was right 😜😜 Thanks
Yes, I think It is right... Greetings from Canary islands.

I can’t ignore the irony of the color red with Apple Wood. It’s a natural combination!
Sure does! Thanks
