I paid for a lot of my travels by working in national parks in the US and Canada. You get to work in a beautiful place, go hiking and backpacking, meet cool people and at the end of a few months you have money left over and can then go traveling to other countries around the world. Work six months, travel six months, go back home broke and do it all over again.

@@sebastianarielburd3119 I don't teach English anywhere but was sort of interested in it. I looked into it & looked like you don't need a teaching degree, but you need to have a degree in something. Didn't matter what, as long as it was a degree & I think it had to be at least a 4 year one
I decided to go to college to become a sailor. I can work half the year and spend the other half traveling. I will say this channel has definitely influenced me in making that decision. Thanks Drew! On a side note, I think in addition to visiting foreign countries, I want to dedicate a good amount of time to traveling around my own country, the USA. The 50 states are so diverse and I really only know the New England, New York and Florida areas. I want to visit Everglades, the Bonneville salt flats, drive route 66, visit the desert in Oregon desert, see the west coast, the Pacific northwest, go skiing in park city, go diving in Utah, go to the indoor mountain bike park in Ohio, etc. The USA is soooo diverse.

Hey Drew, I know that you come from a background of middle class American parents, at least, not everyone can afford to study abroad/pay for college at an out of state university (which is why it’s cheaper to go abroad, it was the same case for me, but had I lived in state, I would have paid the same to study abroad, but if you are an out of state student it’s a good option). I don’t know if you took out loans or not, but I think it’s important to the story. Not everyone has this reality. I appreciate you, and your work. But I think it’s important to acknowledge your privilege as well. It’s also much harder for non US, European, British and Canadians to get the chances to work in these places. You have a worldwide audience, but I’m assuming this only applies to those people. If you have a weak passport (those videos on it you made were great), it’s hard to travel to work, you won’t get approved.

My dad managed to visit every coastal country in the world by getting paid he worked as a chief engineer in cruises and cargos and yachts now he is living in Germany
although I enjoy his videos especially the $10 challenge vids, I wouldn't want to travel and experience the way the locals or the poor live ( I know it sounds f'd up but..) I would want to travel to live in luxury...for example, I live in NY so I traveled to Turkey and basically spent a week in the one of the best hotels in Instanbul went to the best restaurants I can find bought a whole bunch of stuff and basically if you tried spending the same amount in NY would be a few days in ny in an average hotel doing average things etc
@@devotedrealestate1540 well sorry but in my opinion travelling isn't about that. When you travel you should go out of your comfort zone and experience the country to which you travelled. If you just get the best things then you didn't do anything. By doing that you just take a long plane ride and then do the same things as you do at home. Travelling is about trying something new and experiencinh a different culture.
I pay for my travel through a travel agency that allows me to pay in installments. Travel can be cheap as long as you travel smart: Dont go during peak times, do open jaw trips, stop trying to stay at 5 star hotels (you are only using them to sleep and store your stuff), eat what and where the locals eat, do your research and find out what you want to visit before you go (dont rely on tour packages to show you everything).

This is a nice story, but if you aren't a citizen of US/Canada/EU countries, it is impossible to travel around on a budget. Also, you can't teach English like how he did if you're not from US/Canada/UK I'm from India, and to get a Schengen visa we have to provide proof of income of almost 150,000 rupees and a detailed itinerary. Its the same for Latin America and the US/Canada. We can't just show up to an airport with a passport and a backpack. I love Drew's videos and really look forward to them, but this cannot be achieved by anyone not in the first world, or if you don't have familial wealth! Cheers folks!
Very good advice Drew! I dropped out of college and got a job at my favourite local club. Fast forward 8 yrs and I'm a bartender at a very famous bar in Dubai and close to many other countries I can visit for cheap. Even better is that I get to meet other nomads who fill me with great ideas for my next destination to settle in. I'd say if you've got a passport that lets you in easily all over the world, you've got no excuse to live out your travel dreams. Mine makes it hard to move to many parts of the world even if it's just for a year or two. Also for young people with the travel bug, I'd recommend to hold off starting a family until your 30s and have zero debt. Spend your youth mobile and ready to relocate whenever you feel. Also you won't feel guilty spending your income on adventures if you've got no other oblt

I taught English in Japan throughout the 90s and learned to speak Japanese quite fluently. It was very safe, although not always welcoming to gaijin (This is the least polite and most common word in their language for "foreign barbarian"). I enjoyed my decade there and have occasionally thought about moving back.
Traveling is not as expensive as some think it is. I've bought round trip tickets from Frankfurt to LAX for $330. From there you can drive a rental, use the train, or Ryanair to travel all over Europe. You can also be like me, Army stationed in Europe, and just the other day I woke my family up and we spent the day in Brussels just because. I've spent a total of about $15,000 over the last two years and we've seen 15 countries now since being here.

Also, you don't really have to start your travels by visiting countries that expensive to get to in the first place. Look for countries that are visa-free and with relatively cheap flights and accommodation.
Also travel hacking! It is a really popular option in the US. For a lot of countries the most expensive part is airfare but once you get there it is not as expensive as you think. Even to hop around countries.

In the holidays I worked as a nurse for 1 year in Pakistan 🇵🇰 after that I travel to Turkey Thailand and UAE

I taught English in Japan throughout the 90s and learned to speak Japanese quite fluently. It was very safe, although not always welcoming to gaijin (This is the least polite and most common word in their language for "foreign barbarian"). I enjoyed my decade there and have occasionally thought about moving back.

Traveling is not as expensive as some think it is. I've bought round trip tickets from Frankfurt to LAX for $330. From there you can drive a rental, use the train, or Ryanair to travel all over Europe.
You can also be like me, Army stationed in Europe, and just the other day I woke my family up and we spent the day in Brussels just because. I've spent a total of about $15,000 over the last two years and we've seen 15 countries now since being here.

Also, you don't really have to start your travels by visiting countries that expensive to get to in the first place. Look for countries that are visa-free and with relatively cheap flights and accommodation.

Also travel hacking! It is a really popular option in the US. For a lot of countries the most expensive part is airfare but once you get there it is not as expensive as you think. Even to hop around countries.
