The most popular question I get is how, "Drew, How can you afford to travel?" -- so in this video, I give you a complete breakdown of how I've made money to afford my trips to 189 countries.
No, I am not rich and no, I don't take money from my parents.
I pay for all of my travel expenses out of money that I earned from hard work, and it has involved A LOT of pivoting to whatever is currently working out for me at the time (teaching English -- travel blogging -- Snapchat -- Instagram -- Video making -- ???)
In the second half of this video, I give you tons of tips and advice for how YOU can find jobs abroad (or remotely) to essentially travel for free. If you have any to add, please comment them below!
This is meant to be an inspirational video, so I hope it triggers some of you to realize how many opportunities are out there because YOU CAN do this too, if you choose! All you need is a wifi signal, a computer and a little bit of courage :)

I paid for a lot of my travels by working in national parks in the US and Canada. You get to work in a beautiful place, go hiking and backpacking, meet cool people and at the end of a few months you have money left over and can then go traveling to other countries around the world. Work six months, travel six months, go back home broke and do it all over again.

Drew, I feel like you responded to me directly on this one as I have mentioned a couple of times how the heck can you afford the travel life. Thanks for your transparency on the issue and appreciate your telling everyone about different job opportunities overseas to support travel habit. You are in good times, when I was your age society would have labeled you as a loser because you didn’t fit into any of the things that we got into at that time. You are to be applauded, life is not about degrees, job status, house size etc. The winner is truly the one that has experienced the great amount of visual beauty and cultural experience that you have been able to. @abdullah It would be hard for him because its harder to enter those places. Iraqi Kurdistan is easier to visit but idk about the others
I decided to go to college to become a sailor. I can work half the year and spend the other half traveling. I will say this channel has definitely influenced me in making that decision. Thanks Drew!
On a side note, I think in addition to visiting foreign countries, I want to dedicate a good amount of time to traveling around my own country, the USA. The 50 states are so diverse and I really only know the New England, New York and Florida areas. I want to visit Everglades, the Bonneville salt flats, drive route 66, visit the desert in Oregon desert, see the west coast, the Pacific northwest, go skiing in park city, go diving in Utah, go to the indoor mountain bike park in Ohio, etc. The USA is soooo diverse.
I'm from Brazil and I live in China for eight years, there are plenty of English teachers earning good money here, enough to travel whole Asia and enjoy a good life in China. All u said is true. :D
Hi, are you teaching English in China? how easy to find a job as English teacher even though English is not my native language? I would like to do that but I am not sure if they require English language as native one? thanks
@@sebastianarielburd3119 I don't teach English anywhere but was sort of interested in it. I looked into it & looked like you don't need a teaching degree, but you need to have a degree in something. Didn't matter what, as long as it was a degree & I think it had to be at least a 4 year one

Step 1: *Have money*
although I enjoy his videos especially the $10 challenge vids, I wouldn't want to travel and experience the way the locals or the poor live ( I know it sounds f'd up but..) I would want to travel to live in luxury...for example, I live in NY so I traveled to Turkey and basically spent a week in the one of the best hotels in Instanbul went to the best restaurants I can find bought a whole bunch of stuff and basically if you tried spending the same amount in NY would be a few days in ny in an average hotel doing average things etc

@@devotedrealestate1540 well sorry but in my opinion travelling isn't about that. When you travel you should go out of your comfort zone and experience the country to which you travelled. If you just get the best things then you didn't do anything. By doing that you just take a long plane ride and then do the same things as you do at home. Travelling is about trying something new and experiencinh a different culture.

Helpful video with lots of ideas here. Teaching abroad for 6 years in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, and Bolivia was an incredible experience for me!

I pay for my travel through a travel agency that allows me to pay in installments. Travel can be cheap as long as you travel smart: Dont go during peak times, do open jaw trips, stop trying to stay at 5 star hotels (you are only using them to sleep and store your stuff), eat what and where the locals eat, do your research and find out what you want to visit before you go (dont rely on tour packages to show you everything).
Traveling abroad from a country to another by teaching langauges was an idea that I kept considering for quite a long time. So thanks a lot for this video!
Hey Drew, I know that you come from a background of middle class American parents, at least, not everyone can afford to study abroad/pay for college at an out of state university (which is why it’s cheaper to go abroad, it was the same case for me, but had I lived in state, I would have paid the same to study abroad, but if you are an out of state student it’s a good option). I don’t know if you took out loans or not, but I think it’s important to the story. Not everyone has this reality. I appreciate you, and your work. But I think it’s important to acknowledge your privilege as well. It’s also much harder for non US, European, British and Canadians to get the chances to work in these places. You have a worldwide audience, but I’m assuming this only applies to those people. If you have a weak passport (those videos on it you made were great), it’s hard to travel to work, you won’t get approved.

Very good advice Drew! I dropped out of college and got a job at my favourite local club. Fast forward 8 yrs and I'm a bartender at a very famous bar in Dubai and close to many other countries I can visit for cheap. Even better is that I get to meet other nomads who fill me with great ideas for my next destination to settle in. I'd say if you've got a passport that lets you in easily all over the world, you've got no excuse to live out your travel dreams. Mine makes it hard to move to many parts of the world even if it's just for a year or two. Also for young people with the travel bug, I'd recommend to hold off starting a family until your 30s and have zero debt. Spend your youth mobile and ready to relocate whenever you feel. Also you won't feel guilty spending your income on adventures if you've got no other oblt
