  • I made some progress on the flagstone deck when the weather was warmer this week. I'm trying to grow mushrooms from a kit I purchased on amazon - amzn.to/3wXfsTo
Longwood Garden's acacia passage is in full bloom. We'll look at tons of amaryllis in bloom while we take a garden tour.

Loved the beautiful display of so many varieties of Amarillos, also my Dalia tublers are storing well over winter. My first year for Dalias, they were absolutely gorgeous last Fall. Thanks for all your expertise 🌱💜

*THANK YOU for this this uplifting visit.* For gardeners, Longwood Gardens is nourishment for the soul. Especially in our long, gloomy cold N.E. winters. I love Longwood Gardens. I wish it wasn't such an ordeal to get there for a visit.

Hi Danielle, Great job on your flagstone deck, it's a very welcoming entryway into to your raised bed garden. Your indoor amaryllis and paper white narcissus display continues to bring so much cheer during these winter months. I am anxious to see the double king open up! I am also interested to see how the mushroom garden will grow. Longwood Gardens display was outstanding. The pretty nymph amaryllis with the pink kalanchoe combination was a showstopper!! And the Acasia room was absolutely beautiful!! Thanks so much for sharing your special day with us, it is very much appreciated!

The amaryllis are beautiful-both yours and the ones at Longwood Gardens. I purchased a mushroom grow kit years tears ago when I was reaching third grade. We followed the directions on the package and ended up with lots of mushrooms. I was too nervous to let my students eat any, but our school custodian took them home and enjoyed every one. I hope you have good luck with yours.

I received an amaryllis as a gift three years ago - each year it grew with leaves no flower - this year (yr 3) I realized I put it outside for summer, replanted in Autumn, but did not put it in dormancy🤷 it grew tall leaves and I decided to give it one last chance, next year, since I missed that step - it must've heard me because low and behold it's going to flower hopefully by Valentine's day👍👏🎉I'm excited to see what color it will be - this year I'll make sure to do the dormancy step - thanks for the tips!!

Hi from Melbourne Australia. We have acacia or wattle as we call it everywhere at the end of winter, in many gardens and hundreds in the local parks. The cinnamon variety is my favourite due to the beautiful bark. It’s just stunning and it was interesting to see it used in this way as I’ve only ever seen it as a tree before. Thank you

I was shocked with the first display of Pretty Nymph variety at the Garden. I am a huge fan of succulents, especially Kalanchoe. I hope that is what we see, as I would hate to be incorrect. I used to grow a few colours of Kalanchoe Blossfeldiana, but tragically, I had to work out of town for a few months. My friend who was an "expert" plant enthusiast killed all of my plants and even took out some Amaryllis that were "summering" outdoors.
I have always wanted to try out growing mushrooms but never took the plunge. I think those kits are a wonderful method though.

I can't wait to see your hardscape completed. Great idea to get that done sooner vs. later. In my area, Lowe's rents trucks for four hours or for a day, to help homeowners haul their large purchases if they don't have a truck. If you have some willing family and friends, it could reduce the number of trips you have to make to at least get the hardscape to your property. I hauled concrete pavers in my car two years ago and it made a mess and seemed to prolong the project. It would have been so much easier to get the materials here all at once and be able to work on the project a few hours here or there vs. a lot of heavy lifting in one day.

*Your Amaryllis are breathtaking and inspirational.* I grew them for years and then gave it up. A lot of work storing the bulbs properly and having a cool spot for them. Hi Vanessa! I’ve held some for three months. I stored them in our addition in the brown bags they come in. It’s about 65 in that room. It’s harder to hold the southern hemisphere bulbs since they want to grow immediately. The bulbs from holland seem to hold better for me.

Question: my Red Lion Amaryllis just finished blooming. Large bulb. Two flower stalks. I would like to follow your instructions for this year and keep it alive to bloom next year. Anyway, I notice the bulb, the "top 1st layer" seems mushy now but the bulb underneath that feels nice and hard. Do you think the bulb is beginning to rot? Also, with my bulb and two flower stalks, I got leaves only about 2" in height. I thought that was weird. Thank for your help!
