I am forever happy that the Justice confidant was completely reworked in Royal. A little "show, don't tell" goes a long way to make a character that much more compelling.
It's a cool social link because it's the only none party member(for MOST of the game) where there isn't some deal going on, it's just two people hanging out
Fun fact: Smash bros creator Masahiro Sakurai actually try to do a max confidants run in the original Persona 5. He almost manage to complete it but forgot to do yusuke's confidant, thinking that the game would end in march and not in december. Lesson of the day: Always remind yourself to do all your confidants Btw welcome back klingy
That's pretty cool, but of all people to forget, Yusuke? So he got around Fortune's crazy requirements and missions, Sun's guide dang it beginning, Ohya's general badness, Priestess' stat lock... but just forgot about Yusuke. I guess it makes sense to put off the ones that seem easiest until later.
With me during my very 1st playthrough of P5 the reason why I didn't finish Yuksuke is because I didn't have enough of a certain Social Stat that was required to get through the door at Maderame's place.

Have to say I greatly enjoy your bios in your let's plays. I'm a fan of bios in playthroughs like Chuggaaconroy's but your ones I like the most and I look forward to see them in your Persona and Fire Emblem videos.
Welcome back, hope you enjoyed your small break and I can’t wait to get back to the third semester These are honestly the best bios yet, you are clear, you don’t take too long, the music doesn’t overpower you and the bio itself is easy to read and is very clear. I honestly can’t wait until your next fire emblem Lp if only for the bios themselves
As someone who played Persona 5 on PS3, I litteraly never made use of Ohya's confidant abilities...ever. The game never made clear the conditions of how to make use of the "benifits" so I thought every single one of the confidant bonuses was bugged and wouldn't work, ESPECIALLY THE RANK 10 ABILITY.
Interesting to see this come out before the playthrough is over. Still cool to see. The tier list is about what I'd expect. I actually have quite a bit to say in unrelated stuff, but I'll wait for a proper part of the playthrough for that.
With the true Faith Confidant unlocking, I now had everything I needed for this. I decided to work on it during my unplanned hiatus and bring things back with a bang.
Crazy to think we're done all of the confidants (at least for giving their bios) and can already post a compilation of all bios now. Crazy how time goes by, but I won't complain if we get the culmination of Klingy's great bios for this LP. Great work Klingy, both on all of the bios and for this monster of a video compiling them all. 1:39:37- And I really like your addition of the tier list showing how good they all are in regards to gameplay bonuses. A very nice visual guide on their power. Although I find it crazy how even though there's multiple tiers, the fact that I consider everything not Ohya's as "at least good" also shows how for the most part the devs made some really great and helpful gameplay bonuses and makes them really worth going after. In other news, a lot given the time pass. I FINALLY finished up Engage back on Tuesday. I'll give my overall thoughts on the game for another day, but to give the quick version, a very fun and solid entry for FE that does great work despite a series of minor flaws and missed potential trying to bring it down. Was a pretty great time and happy I ended up liking it given the massive fears I had about it pre-release. As for what I'm doing now, mainly just some "smaller stuff" as a break after Engage. Main focus is doing Master Duel to cool off, especially since there's multiple events going on right now due to the 1 Year Anniversary. Going to try to do those events and hopefully cap them (a lot more feasible now since max rewards ends at 11K points given there's two events happening at once). First is the Legend Anthology Event, i.e anime featured decks, so I'm taking it as an excuse to have fun with a Dark Magician Deck with the event. The deck works great, though its power is better seen in a more skilled pilot than I as I'm still learning it, but still having fun with it regardless. After that, it'll be onto a repeat of the XYZ event from last year (hoping this means we get the return of the N/R event format next month), which I'll need to make a deck for, but there's a budget option I'm already eying for it. Also trying my hand at a certain challenge with another game. Will should have been resuming, but the save data got lost for the original run (when I was right near the end; Very salty about that still), so I had to start from the beginning. After a few resets due to either not feeling it or losing early due to bad luck, finally got a run I'm feeling for it. I'll give more details about it once it's over since I know the moment I decided to talk about it in detail/feel optimistic about it is when it's going to turn into a complete flop. But for what I'll be doing after all of that, I think the main plan is going to be finally finishing up Octopath Traveler 1 so I can play Octo 2 as it'll be releasing tomorrow. If not that, either more focus on SMT IVA since I did make more progress on that during the video break on this channel or something else entirely.
Even though I did play Royal before, I did learn a lot of new things about the confidants too which was great. Everyone one but Devil has some good abilities to chase after which is nice to see considering P5 was the first game to give the social links more benefits than just more Arcana Burst. While we are on the subject of social links and confidants, I am quite surprised by how much I am enjoying Persona 3 Portable's social links in the female route since a lot of them had stories that I thought were really intriguing even if some of them are quite basic. That is great to hear about Engage and I can't wait to discuss it more later too. I also finished my first playthrough too and it was a really fun time despite being on the easy side due to Normal probably being too easy for my skill level this time around. That is why I have now started a Hard mode playthrough which has been going decently well so far too. Meanwhile, my brother is now doing his third playthrough and is trying out Maddening mode now too so that will also be fun to discuss later too. Hopefully, Master Duel goes well for you and you get those points without too much hassle. A shame that challenge run got derailed due to the save data getting lost but at least things are going well for the time being now and I can't wait to hear more about it once you are done. Good luck with Octopath and Apocalypse too. As for my future plans, something is going to happen next month which I will discuss in an update video at the end of this month but other than that, I will continue my Persona 3 Portable playthrough on the channel if I am able and I might think about making some Engage related videos at some point since people are very eager to hear about what I think about it. After that Hard mode playthrough, I will finally give Cold Steel 2 a go since it has been long overdue and there are also games I want to play on the PS2 emulator which I will discuss once I start playing them.
@@BerserkerRohan That's one of the best things with these informative LPs is that even with games you've played before, you're bound to learn something new in these LPs. It's big reason why Klingy's a favorite of mine because of how much his LPs can show off. I was kind of thinking it in the back of my head, I was trying to recall if other games gave non-Arcana Burst/non-ultimate Persona bonuses for completing them, but couldn't think of much besides improved performance from party members. That just makes the confidants even more impressive for their first shot to expand on it. Besides one infamous one I vaguely know of, I've heard good thing about P3's Social Links so it makes sense you're finding plenty to enjoy. Thanks and it'll be fun to talk of later. Also great work on your end finishing the game too. Sure it might have been on Normal, but with how Engage is I still feel like it was at least something of a challenge and not a total cake walk. Again, great work. Hope the hard mode run goes well for you and hope your brother's Maddening Mode run also fares well. Despite some losses on occasion and some growing pains with the deck, the DM deck has been working incredibly well so far. Already at 9K Points for it with two days remaining (i.e just win four more duels to max out its rewards). And even in some matches I have lost in they were either fun or came down to me playing poorly instead of being frustrated by pure BS (though a lot of that is thanks to the heavy ban list for the legends event that removes a lot of the typical annoying cards to face) for most of the time (still occasional BS, but not the usual rage inducer). The real challenge is going to be the XYZ event since besides it probably not having as many restrictions (though enough to seal off most problem cards), unlike the DM deck, the one I'm currently eying up for it, I don't have as much of a clear understanding on how to pilot it. The DM deck list I'm using came from a focused video on it where the maker of it explains the deck quite well and how it works (i.e I actually know the lines and plays and ultimate end goals), but the deck list I'm looking at for the XYZ event is a part of a recommended list of varies decks and doesn't explain much about the lines and plays to make. Hopefully that'll go well too. Yeah it sucked a ton to lose it and the frustrating resets with the failed/lack of interest runs, but I'm in the right mood and decently into my current attempt at it, so hopefully it'll go better. Many thanks for that as well. Whatever that something is, hope that it all goes well for you by the time it's mentioned in the Update video. Hope the P3P LP continues to go well too and the Engage videos sound interesting if you decided to do those as well. After Hard Mode (which again, best of luck), hope you'll have tons of fun with CS2 as well in addition to whatever PS2 games you decide to hop into as well.
@@jaredfayette2567 I feel the same way about these playthroughs too. Social links used to just boost your party members but it is good to see the non-party links help you a lot in P5. Some of those social links in P3 have been a pleasant surprise. It was still a lot of fun since a lot of my units grew into amazing fighters despite it being on Normal. Good to hear that the Dark Magician deck served you well. I wish you the best for the XYZ event and hopefully you will come to understand the deck you use there. Hope that challenge run keeps going well too. I have a lot of interesting games to play in the future.
Hiya papaya, Klingy! Not much to say since I've already given my own thoughts on these bios and the Arcana (aside from Councillor and Faith as Arcana) in P4(for the Arcana) and P5 itself, but it's _very_ handy to have this. I'll be able to check back here anytime I need a refresher on the Major Arcana and their symbolism. Poor Ohya, doesn't even get named in the final tier list, she's just "the bottom-ranked one". I mean, she earned it, but still, ouch.
I do have a correction that I want to give you. The Star Confidant is not locked behind Rank 2 of Emperor. You can get it before the starting Emperor. The unlock condition appears to be after you finish Kaneshiro's Palace. I personally got the Star Confidant started on June 30th, and then I did the first rank of Yusuke's Confidant on July 4th. Heck, I actually got Rank 2 of Star on that same day.
7:02 wait, the dog is biting the man's *leg*? It moreso looks like he's biting more... Private parts. Also you're amazing for making this Klingy!!! Thank you as always and welcome back! Hope your break was good
Chihaya actually saved my run for getting all confidants in my challenge run. I was aiming to not use 3rd Semester to max out the remainder confidants, and failed some choices. Her confidant ended up pushing me just to the point threshold to progress
Hey your back. Well happy late Ash Wednesday, it seems my area wanted to have an snow storm. I agree the tier list for the most party. I think strength should be tier on it own. It interesting how the only social link that nerf was tower(well given the tower’s symbolism I guess it fitting). Hifumi and Mishima feel like those “you have research breathing”. If persona 6 does bring back social link, keep the gameplay bonus, but it maybe make them more balance, I.e don’t make special treatment as early as rank 5 and fuse at any level. I have been playing persona 3 portable(female), it surprised me how certain links(lover and emperor) a few months earlier then the male route.
True, Strength should probably be in SSS tier. Royal just has too much broken stuff in general, I'd like to see that walked back a bit, but at the same time we need fun mechanics like Baton Pass and bosses designed to actually use them like Okumura.
It'd be interesting to see a full video on Thieves' Den (both a look at Awards, its mechanics, and interesting decorations) since I find that is one of the aspects of Royal that is most often overlooked, though I imagine that'd be an absurd ammount of work lol, so truly, maybe it's overlooked for a reason
For me party meme we is this order Futaba(auto charge, connection, and party wide heat riser is good, even if it rng based). Ryuji: speedrunning exp with Mishima’s bonus goes grrrrr Yoshizawa: the hook is good and having a get out of ambush card is nice Morgana: making items and stealing is nice Haru: nice amount of sp and charge/conerate Yusuke: surprising I didn’t find as usueful, but still pretty powerful. Ann: the only impactful one is distraction Makoto and Akechi: wait these one have bonus outside general party member improvement? Yeah there not existing
Insta-Kill grinding is just that broken. Futaba is only slightly behind though. It's hilarious how far above the rest of the party those two are, though.
I was able to rank up the Strength confidant in 3rd semester. I had to fuse the persona with the skill, back out, talk to Igor again and back out again, talk to Lavenza and cancel the special battle request. The rank up cutscene starts after that.
The power of our bonds. Edit: I have finished Fire Emblem Engage. The story was ok but I found myself not getting enough of it. So much so that I neglected my XC2 NG+ run.
I've had to put Nocturne on hold during it, and I was really liking Nocturne. I'm on Chapter 24 now and even once this is done I just want to play Maddening.
@@BigKlingy im currently playing maddening run I managed to get the s rank Olwen ring and that ring is so fun and it’s actually really good. I have on citrine and she is now an atomic bomb
51:13 Reject Modernity, return to SMT 1 Now that I think about it, he actually does look like a 40y jaded version of the SMT 1 protagonist. Maybe an intencional reference.
19:42 rank 9 doesn’t have a brief fight in it only rank 1 does and it is impossible to lose in it( or maybe mine and yusuke’s health was too high for them to beat us before they decided to self destruct) how did we not realize until now.
Bro... In my p5r game I passed the Maruki deadline and now I don't know what to do. Im not playing the entire fucking game over again, and I don't have a savepoint for before Maruki's depart. I checked a non-spoiler website and for the true ending I need Maruki's maxed confidant... So now the question is... Do I just finish the game and get the normal ending or should I try to do something about the missed confidant. Keep in mind, this is my first persona 5 playthrough, never played the original. So even getting the normal ending would be fine. Also it might be my only option. Wait did I just answer my own question? Anyway cool vid.
In general it's good to keep backup saves in Persona games, but there's some cutscenes in the Thieves Den that you can only get in the normal ending. The normal ending is also pretty good in its own right so I'd still recommend it. (Some prefer it to the Royal ending)
So I had a discussion about the themes of Base Persona 5 vs the Third Semester planned, but it somewhat went into a tangent on how I feel criticism in regards to games like Persona 5 which have serious series and put a lot of effort into narrative/characters, in both Persona 5 and other games as a form of comparison. Admittedly this was also partially spurred by the reactions to the characters and narrative of a game that came out last month but games like Persona 5 are a good spring board of a comparison. Since Persona 5 is very much trying to have a serious narrative and a message about Japanese culture. However I realise that in regards to myself when talking about these games I’ve often felt those aspects can be a double edged sword, because while these aspects can be used to give narratives more meaning or give a strong message, it’s also one that can lead to very strong criticsism and pushback against its issues from me. While there are various aspects that can effect how I react to story and character writing issues, how much I like the idea in general but also it’s execution as if a game is trying to say something it’s holding itself to a standard and is trying to deliver an idea, which causes me to be more critical to see if their grand idea was delivered and more For example, Fire Emblem Three Houses, I’ve played this game a lot in the 3 and a half years it’s come out and it has a lot of characters I I have strong feelings about, hence I’ve been thinking a lot about how it parents itself and the issues that causes with other aspects, I’m not going to talk about the biggest one. But here is an example First is how the game handles Nobles vs Commoners, admittedly I don’t feel that Fire Emblem is the game series to handle this idea due to how the series itself has treated nobility in the past, since a fair amount of main characters have been Nobles alongside a good amount of the secondary cast and a lot of them, hence the series itself tends to portray examples of nobles as nice virtuous people. Hence while this game has quite a few cases of portraying Nobles as evil, Count Varley’s treatment of Bernedetta to try and make her a good marriage partner, Margrave Gautier parenting to both his sons causing their personal issues and the Seven Major Imperial Families hoarding power and doesn’t have many evil commoners who aren’t downright criminals, because it’s one of the more anti noble games. But a lot of the games main playable cast are Nobles, all but 1 od the Black Eagles, mist of the Blue Lions, while Mercedes’, Dedue and Ashe are all part of the Commoner class Ashe is the adopted son of the noble and 5 of the Golden Deer, most of whom are perfectly nice civil people. Hence while the game doesn’t like to paint the nobility systems in the best light combined with the Crests which is similar things that I feel is flawed, hence it feels like the game is pushing an anti nobility narrative rather than actually acknowledging the nuances of a group. And while there is more I could add Katie back to the main point, the fact that both Persona 5 and Three Houses are deliberately strictured with grand ideas empathises when they screw up and tends to make me more annoyed, even discounting cases where a game portrays something I am morally against as a good thing. So let’s talk about Engage, I’ve heard a fair few cases of trashing the games story and characters compared to Three Houses, while I myself have found I am way less annoyed by Engages narrative shortcomings than those of Three Houses, in fact I would argue that I like Enages actual narrative better than all but 1 of Three Houses routes, because while I do have critiques of it, like how some certain late game bosses are given a more sympathetic sendoff than I would have liked but since the game doesn’t really have any grand message or takes itself super seriously i don’t take the narrative as seriously. To link back into Persona, while Fire Emblem for example has ranged from somewhat campy fun to very serious message Person doesn’t really have that, even games like the Q games which are more colourful and make heavier use of comedic skits still have commentary woven into their narratives. But even then I’ve often found myself critiquing Persona 5 for its marriage failings them other games, But when we compare the criticism of Persona 4 vs 5 for me,while o do have issues with Persona 4’s writing it’s way less involved with its depictions of its messages, I don’t have any string issues and whole ot does have social commentary it’s a mystery game first and foremost, while Persona 5 puts it at the forefront and stumbles, so the game being very much against how Kamoshida treats Ann and Shiho, but in the original al has the Shinjiku Creatures implied to want to do similar things to Ryuji, making it seem like the narrative has a double standard even if it wasn’t intended is an issue I have with how the game presents its more serious aspects.
Would've been nice for the Confidants shows in Plot based in order appearing to P5 while some R from its Vanilla & some R from its Royal Exclusive version in here.. 🤔 Oh well. 🤷♂️ That's looking cool tho. 👍🙂 Looks like it'll help for Players a lot of how to given Bigklingy's Explanations there. 😄
They're a gaming slang term referring to event flags. Basically it's a list of choices you have to take to unlock the romance route. (A "flag" is a variable in a computer program that is either 0 or 1, which is often used to mark "have you done this?" progression)
I am forever happy that the Justice confidant was completely reworked in Royal. A little "show, don't tell" goes a long way to make a character that much more compelling.
As I've said many times, Royal's version of Justice actually lets you get to know Akechi as a person, instead of as a plot device.

Anybody else like the fact the social links actually affect the story? It’s far more immersive and makes the social aspects feel more important
Yeah it's kind of confusing. He mentions her in the SL, but I wasn't sure if that was required.
7:02 wait, the dog is biting the man's *leg*?
It moreso looks like he's biting more... Private parts.
Also you're amazing for making this Klingy!!! Thank you as always and welcome back! Hope your break was good
7:02 All the P5 cards involve something weird happening.
wow, did not expect this video this soon
Chihaya actually saved my run for getting all confidants in my challenge run. I was aiming to not use 3rd Semester to max out the remainder confidants, and failed some choices. Her confidant ended up pushing me just to the point threshold to progress
Her and Kawakami are the saviours of scheduling.
Heeeeey, welcome back!
Also rip Ohya, she didn't even get named
Sadly, that's fitting.
Small note for chihaya: I believe money reading also counts for instakill, whichnis insane for grinding
Welcome back.
Between parts 27 and the Lavenza fight of the main playthrough on my channel, I should have most of the Thieves Den covered.
@@BigKlingy ah I see, I'll give it a look then. thanks for answering
If the party member rank of the tier list is ordered, I'm surprised Futaba is lower than Ryuji considering how blitheringly OP she is.
For me party meme we is this order
Futaba(auto charge, connection, and party wide heat riser is good, even if it rng based).
Ryuji: speedrunning exp with Mishima’s bonus goes grrrrr
Yoshizawa: the hook is good and having a get out of ambush card is nice
Morgana: making items and stealing is nice
Haru: nice amount of sp and charge/conerate
Yusuke: surprising I didn’t find as usueful, but still pretty powerful.
Ann: the only impactful one is distraction
Makoto and Akechi: wait these one have bonus outside general party member improvement? Yeah there not existing
Insta-Kill grinding is just that broken. Futaba is only slightly behind though.
It's hilarious how far above the rest of the party those two are, though.
Ironic that this video comes out the day that I first see news that *Apparently* Atlus is working on a P3 Remake and Persona 6 at the same time.
Where'd ya see that news?
The rumours have been going around for months. Any concrete news?
@@Lucas17031 Davidvinc TH-cam channel. (You can't miss the video.)
@@nikoladedic6623 Not really, unless you count the possibility that there is supposed to be a reveal/teaser trailer released around E3 time.
If Pokémon and tf2 has taught me anything, take rumours with a grain of salt. It only comforted if it straight out the horse’s mouth.
I was able to rank up the Strength confidant in 3rd semester. I had to fuse the persona with the skill, back out, talk to Igor again and back out again, talk to Lavenza and cancel the special battle request. The rank up cutscene starts after that.
Did they actually make new cutscenes for Strength with Lavenza? I'll have to check this.
Pretty sure Hifumi rank 7 also works with instakill so its pretty good ability
Since that counts as winning in 0 turns I guess.
51:13 Reject Modernity, return to SMT 1
Now that I think about it, he actually does look like a 40y jaded version of the SMT 1 protagonist. Maybe an intencional reference.
I was beginning to wonder when you'd be back.
Nice to see the confidants and what tgey do and represent.
Also have you finished engage or not yet?
THIS VIDEO TOOOO GOOD
I've always wanted to do something like this, so glad you enjoyed.
@@BigKlingyit's a lot more in depth than most confidant guides, so I appreciate it:)
@@Lucky-mw2cs Some things I even found out while making this, like Special Massage always being free even when it's unlocked early in NG+.
19:42 rank 9 doesn’t have a brief fight in it only rank 1 does and it is impossible to lose in it( or maybe mine and yusuke’s health was too high for them to beat us before they decided to self destruct) how did we not realize until now.
Oh right, oops. Shouldn't have left that in.
16:22 i fucking burst out laughing
Tks Dojima
"Yay, Klingy's bac-" /1h40min video/ ...A.
51:39 nuclear also technicals burn
Idk how I did it but Kawakami did reject me on my first playthrough
@@BigKlingy thank you. I make the mistake of not really back up saving but whatever, atleast I can new game +
While there are various aspects that can effect how I react to story and character writing issues, how much I like the idea in general but also it’s execution as if a game is trying to say something it’s holding itself to a standard and is trying to deliver an idea, which causes me to be more critical to see if their grand idea was delivered and more
For example, Fire Emblem Three Houses, I’ve played this game a lot in the 3 and a half years it’s come out and it has a lot of characters I I have strong feelings about, hence I’ve been thinking a lot about how it parents itself and the issues that causes with other aspects, I’m not going to talk about the biggest one. But here is an example
First is how the game handles Nobles vs Commoners, admittedly I don’t feel that Fire Emblem is the game series to handle this idea due to how the series itself has treated nobility in the past, since a fair amount of main characters have been Nobles alongside a good amount of the secondary cast and a lot of them, hence the series itself tends to portray examples of nobles as nice virtuous people.
But even then I’ve often found myself critiquing Persona 5 for its marriage failings them other games,
But when we compare the criticism of Persona 4 vs 5 for me,while o do have issues with Persona 4’s writing it’s way less involved with its depictions of its messages, I don’t have any string issues and whole ot does have social commentary it’s a mystery game first and foremost, while Persona 5 puts it at the forefront and stumbles, so the game being very much against how Kamoshida treats Ann and Shiho, but in the original al has the Shinjiku Creatures implied to want to do similar things to Ryuji, making it seem like the narrative has a double standard even if it wasn’t intended is an issue I have with how the game presents its more serious aspects.
Funny to start with Sly 2 job complete music.XD
Persona 5 and Sly have a lot of similarities, as Phantom Thief games with stylized graphics.
@@BigKlingy Makes sense since both games are about thieves.
Would've been nice for the Confidants shows in Plot based in order appearing to P5 while some R from its Vanilla & some R from its Royal Exclusive version in here.. 🤔 Oh well. 🤷♂️ That's looking cool tho. 👍🙂
Looks like it'll help for Players a lot of how to given Bigklingy's Explanations there. 😄
Bro I heard your voice somewhere but I don't remember where
Can anybody explain to me what flags are? I mean in the context Takemi rejecting you if you don’t have them. Thank you.
They're a gaming slang term referring to event flags. Basically it's a list of choices you have to take to unlock the romance route.
(A "flag" is a variable in a computer program that is either 0 or 1, which is often used to mark "have you done this?" progression)
Thanks, good to know.
Skill Cards should probably be removed, they completely annihilate balance
