- In February of 2021 bought a 1999 Specialized Hardrock for only $65.00. Although the bike had spent a lot of time outdoors, it wass structurally sound. The Cro-Mo steel frame and welds are all in good shape. The metallic ruby red paint is gorgeous, but there is a lot of wear and scratches on it, which I decided to retain.
I have upgraded the bike a couple times after I rebuilt it. I still enjoy riding mountain bike trails on it despite being a rigid bike. Lately, though, I've been riding it on local paved rail trial, and back and forth to work. So, it's mountain bike characteristics were really not being used.
I decided to get a second set of wheels and mount all road tires on them. This way, I can ride the bike in either mountain bike or road-ish bike configuration.

Bought an old Rockhopper (i guess 1990) two years ago. After some change on parts and several adjustments, it's my daily ride for commute today. It's not the best nor the worst bike. It's just a proper bike for a cycling enthusiast like me. I'm using a Kenda Kiniption 26x2.30 for asphalt and some chunky 2.25 Obor Mike Bear tire when i want to have a pleasant offroad bits.
Sounds great! Not to promote yet another subcategory, but I like all-arounder bikes.
@@JimsObsessiveCyclingDisorder I'm second to that.
This bike has no suspension - so it can't be called a mountain bike!

Many people still ride modern ridged mountain bikes
