Osees are the best live band ever. Holy fuck they’re so much fun to see. I’ve been into them and seeing them live yearly since 2010 and all their songs still hit so fucking hard live and at an ear splitting volume. There’s a reason every show they do sells out quick. If you like straight up guitar rock, catch them live. You won’t be disappointed, they’re absolutely legendary.
@@cansagarri6749 yeah, double drummers in a medium sized venue. It’s insane. I saw them with the double drummer set up years ago in a tiny 100 people sized venue and my ears were ringing for days
As a part of the bar staff some years ago in London, I kinda liked the show, but the crowd was extremely rude and obnoxious. Some dude even stole 6 beers from us.

I cant get enough of Submerged Building. So fun, and I really love the drum production. Always At Night is definitely too long but I love the choir-esque synths that come in during the verses
Congratulations! You finally gave an Osees album a higher score than 6/10! (I'm gonna jump off a bridge if you don't apologize for what you said about smote reverser)
Yeah his Smote Reverser take an L, think it suffered from being compared to Orc, but it's easily a 7+. Just thinking about them crashing into Overthrown during a live set gets my blood pumping.
Tbh I’m not much of an Osees fan but I LOVE deranged zany synth-punk a la Suicide, Lost Sounds, and The Screamers. I’d love to hear more contemporary music like this.
Sick album by the Osees. Long shot but you should definitely check out Frankie & the Witch Fingers new LP. One for shits and giggle would be The Ladybug Dilemma by Flagman!
They are so much fun to see live, it's just relentlessly grooving. I dare anyone to try and stand still for even a second, the twin drums just will not let you rest
Anthony, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Rat Saw God, the Wednesday album that dropped in April. I know it’s been a bit since it came out, but to me, it’s one of the most overlooked albums of the year rn. Aside from a glowing review from Pitchfork, I can’t say the rest of the music community is giving it its due respect. I’m constantly in awe of the singer’s vocals, as she’s able to excel whether the band is trending towards an alt country sound or into noise. Bull Believer is one of my favorite songs of the year so far in large part due to the affecting break near the end, which sees the singer essentially screaming and crying in such agony that I can’t help but get emotional. It’s been awhile since I’ve heard a song that’s made me feel that emotionally defiled by a singer’s performance. Other highlights include Turkey Vultures, TV in the Gas Pump, and Chosen to Deserve. Even if you don’t like it, I still think you making a review would help shed light on a pretty underrated album.
I really enjoy the synth flavour injection to their sound, each album feels like an experiment in a new area and if it yields 4 good new tracks for them to play live then it's a win. And the big W on this album is the chance to shout along "It won't add up, they won't come around, your King's a c*nt, it keeps you dumb!" during Intercepted Message, then sing the keyboard solo.
There’s at least 7 different names I know of, and those are just the ones based off the “The Osees” idea. There’s for sure more names. Way too many lol
yea i thought this album was pretty cool, the more prominent synths are a good addition. and while "always at night" mightve not worked for everyone and could maybe be a bit shorter or sweeter/dreamier i still liked their attempt at channeling some more 80s pop influences alongside their more wild garage-synth punk style. but overall i pretty much agree with the review!
I thought protean threat was so good a couple years ago I also used to think smote reverser and face stabber and orc were pretty okay. I thought Dwyer was really influenced by Zappa on stuff from face stabber, haven’t even listened to this album yet, has anyone notice they always release the record in august
Happy to see the 7, sad to see Always at Night as your least favorite track. If anything, I need a whole album of that Beach House-esque vibe from Osees! Also no mention at all of the fresh bop that is Chaos Heart? For shame!
Just saw them live(first timer) last week. Holy Hell! What a show ( I will bring ear plugs next time). Took me back to the glory days of the 90's. A lively and non violent pit with crowd surfing throughout the entire show. Gave me chills, it was a ton of fun.
Fish needs a bike is the highlight imo, Always at night is an incredible closer too I've been loving this whole thing EDIT: just to add, this is definitely their Devo album, very fun from start to finish and doesn't completely fall flat at any point I love it (but I love anything John Dwyer🤷)
I think your views of this album about summed up mine. I was excited when I first started the album, then felt my mind wandering in the middle, then really tried to pay attention again, but couldn't quite get there. I'll definitely give it a few more and see if I finally click with it,
Could you listen to “Being Human” by Mike Sabbath and the Moongirls, their debut album that came out in 2023, a band of all men that blends disco, funk, and pop. I discovered them right after they released there second single in preparation for their debut album. There are some great bops on the album, and the lead singer I believe is the prodigy of Pharrell Williams as well has had some features on some pretty prominent pop albums of the last few years. Obviously not the best album of all time, but a very solid debut with a lot of future potential for the band.
