    For food you can not use any seed and especially not parakeet seed. Small seeds take more energy to digest that they give energy to the pigeon so it can lead to bird being malnourished. There are some larger seeds that have the same effect like wheat. For your pet pigeon you need a pigeon mix that usually consists of multiple types of corn, dried peas, sunflower, safflower, and smaller grains. Beside grit that is for digestion, you need to add both vitamins and miners, especially vitamin D3 or get your pigeon a bird UV light. Just couple hours a day outside the cage is not enough. Pigeons are social animals that need to be constantly near their "flock" and in this case this is us. They should be in the cage only to sleep. Pigeons are great pets, but need a lot of attention.

      Thanks for watching! I always try to mix different bird seeds to get a good variety for my pigeon. He won’t eat corn, sunflower seeds, white millet, and some larger peas. He’s a little picky, and I notice he has issues with eating the larger seeds which is why he just refuses to eat them. I will keep in mind about the smaller seeds though! My pigeon is practically never in his cage and likes to sun bathe by the windows, but he probably still doesn’t get enough UV, so I’ll look into getting a light for him.

    Pigeons are platform birds, my grandfather raised them, yes, pigeons fly, but they should have a big space such as an aviary. Also could you give people the cage sizes or different options other than saying here's what i use?

      Thanks for watching! Pigeons do better with platforms as opposed to perches since they don’t have a good grip. This video’s cage setup is outdated, and I now have two platforms in the cage. Aviaries and coops are good for keeping outdoor pigeons, but if they are indoor pets, then a large cage is recommended along with plenty of out of cage time. The dimensions of my cage is 20.4”x 31.1”x 37.2”. It’s definitely not a flight cage and more of a place to sleep for my pigeon. If you don’t want to let your bird out for exercise, then you will need a much more massive flight cage for them to be able to fly in since they are large birds. My cage is a bird cage designed to be a flight cage for smaller birds like cockatiels and conures, but I know many people use dog and cat crates for their pigeons since it’s easier to find a more suitable size and shape for housing a pigeon. I didn’t give dimensions in the video cause I didn’t have them in my head, and it’s very dependent on the size of your bird and how you plan on using the cage. If your bird will spend a good chunk of their day in their cage, then you’d want a bigger enclosure, but if they are only in the cage overnight and spend the entire day out, then it is fine to have a smaller cage.

    Hi, I'm planning on getting a pigeon in the near future. You had mentioned it's important to let them out for exercise time. How do you get them back in the cage?

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      If they have a favorite nest spot outside the cage and become aggressive if you are reaching your hands around there, then you can grab them pretty easily. Otherwise, you can totally black out the room and make it dark and quickly grab them since they can’t see very well in the dark, and their eyes take longer than ours to adjust to the dark. If you are able to train your pigeon to step up or a command to go back to their cage, then that is even better because they won’t be stressed out when it’s time to go back, but mine was well trained, and even he could not willingly be placed inside the the cage, so I had to resort to the first two methods.

    Omg, I finally found more pigeon vids! How did this not come up in my recommended?!
    I have 2 questions:
    Can you free flight a pigeon like you would for a parrot?
    Any alternatives to pigeon diapers? Mine haaaate them.. theyre not scared if it, just pretty uncomfortable.

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi! Yes, you actually can free flight your pigeon! I’m actually working on training mine towards that goal and will release a video about training him in the future! Also, I’m not too sure about pigeon diaper alternatives. My pigeon actually hates wearing his diaper too and refuses to do anything whenever I put them on him, so I’ve settled with daily room cleaning just to keep up with the mess he makes.

      @@BubblyPetz1 id watch out letting that bird go, if you dont have a coop with other birds it might join a flock. i started giving mine freewill it stood around the yard about 2 Months. now it comes only to eat. i guess she has a partner but do miss her. 😥

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vincenthoran6209 Aww, I’m sorry to hear that. I meant more like how you would free flight a parrot. You select the time and place and bring your bird there for training and outdoor time while making sure to supervise. Then, when you are done, you recall them and take them back inside. There aren’t any pigeons that live nearby me, so that hasn’t been an issue, and my bird always likes to hang around me. His recall is solid.

    I'd love a pet pigeon, even just a feral pigeon. but I'm not sure if you're allowed in the UK, not sure if it's a legal pet.

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, you could try looking online to see if there are any pigeon rescues or breeders near you. I don’t see why the domestic breeds would be illegal in the UK considering they are not true wild animals. Hopefully, you find the answer to your question! Thanks for watching!!

    • @BubblyPetz1
      @BubblyPetz1  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! It could be that he’s trying to pick something off your head like preening you. It could even be that he doesn’t like a movement your head does while he’s on your shoulder, and so he attacks it.
